I drive an '01 targa. I get to drive it about 500 miles a week commuting from Santa Cruz into silicon valley for work. It's been well maintained and runs just like a Honda should (over 120K miles in the last 5 years). After hearing a strange noise from the driver rear wheel I checked it out. No visible damage, bearing and suspension appear fine. So I swap with the donut spare and the noise goes away. When I brought the wheel in to check the balance we found the problem. You could see the inside of the rim was out of round on the balancer. No vibrations (except a bit under braking) when driving, feels fine, but the sound of the wheel is driving me crazy.
Here's where I was hoping the great NSXprime community could help:
Any recommendations on a Bay Area shop that could fix the wheel?
I looked at OEM and other replacement wheels. Very confusing when an OEM wheel is $1200 and I can find places willing to sell them for $200. Some claimed to be refurbished, some didn't. Any words of advice or caution on buying a "cheap" OEM wheel?
Lastly, I never liked the 7-spoke rims, replacing the wheels was the one upgrade I always wanted to make. I've read a lot of other comments in the forum on wider and bigger diameter wheels. Finding 16" tires for the front is a pain. Anybody out there regret going up an inch on wheel diameters?
Thanks
Glenn
