1991 Silver NSX FS at dealership...background?

I came across a 1991 Silver NSX at Championship motors in Redmond. They said they got it from a Mercedes dealership on trade.

Is this anyone's car here? Does anyone know this car? Can't be too many 1991 Silver NSX's in the Seattle area. It has 65k miles on it and I'm thinking about trading my 350Z in on it.

Any advice??? Anything I should be looking for? The car drove nice, except the clutch engaged REALLY high off the floor...might have been slipping, I'm not sure. How much is that fix? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

That's typical - as long as its not slipping you should be fine.
About $2K for parts & labour.

Took a little getting used to...I'm not sure if the clutch was slipping, it was hard to tell. I did a run down an on-ramp and when I shifted fast from 1st-2nd it felt like the clutch didn't engage...maybe the tires were just spinning? The car has the original stock 15" rims on there...I might have been experiencing that. I'll have to drive it again.

If anyone knows this car, (its in the local autotrader) please let me know. I'm seriously thinking about picking it up tomorrow afternoon.

BTW- Is there any way to adjust the clutch so it engages a little closer to the floor? (Total newb to NSXs here)

At a minimum have a dealer or NSX tech who is familiar with the NSX's do a PPI on the car, read the FAQ and make sure that the car is *not* in the Snap Ring range, etc.

And finally you might want to ask one of the friendly Seattle NSX owners to drive the car as well, they will be able to tell if the car feels funny given that they drive one all the time :)

I know 3 NSX owners up there, polar, NSXDreamer2 and Freelance201, send a PM to them and maybe they might be able to help you with some advice or suggestions.

Good luck!

Ken

Thanks for the advice....it's hard to jump into a car for the first time and know for sure if it's ok. I'm a little nervous because of the snap ring issues...I believe this is an early '01...I peaked at the Vin and the last four digits were like 10XX, so I imagine that's one of the first 1,000 of the line.

The car is beautiful...and it felt a lot quicker than I expected. It's going to be a little difficult going from an '03 to a '91...I'm already thinking about all the little things that are going to need replacing.

My plans are to AutoX this car as well, so I hope there is some good info on suspension setup, sways, springs, tires, etc etc.

I'll find out today if the financing makes sense.

Even though it's not 100% reliable, run carfax for the Vin#. Also you should tell me how much are you getting the car for. I'm not sure if the clutch is going out or not (on the silver one you're going to buy) ... but mine is very high too, and I'm used to that already, you may also adjust it all the way to the bottom of the travel, if you like.

Send me a PM for your contact, I might find some time swinging by and check the car for/with you.

By the way, does the dealer have a web site I can peek at the car before we check it out in person?
Ferrand.

PM me with your purchasing price after your negotiation, the car seems to be stock, which is a little over priced at $29,900 with the problem you listed.

Just FYI, my car was purchased at $26.2k with Comptech header, exhaust, and Cantrell intake, seems like my car had replaced some sort of aftermarket clutch that's a little faster and stiffer than stock. also extra sets of rims and tires, car covers... with the 90k service just finished. 2 years ago.
ok, I might have gotten a steal, but just to give you an idea.

You may also take the vin# and call an Acura dealer and see if there is any service record of the car. Besides the Clutch, the 90k service (water pump, timing belt) will also quite costly, also you must check the A/C and the windows. Both of those are troublesome yet cost some money to repair.

PS. Yes, a 'healthy' stock 91 nsx will smoke a 350z on track and most street driving... But if you set your eye to AutoX, it might not be the best car out there.

Well, AutoX is just a hobby...I just started this year. I like to be able to take a car out and push it a little.

My Z dynoed at 260hp, 247tq about a month ago. I'm put a ton of mods into it - Rims, exhaust, intake, plenum, pullies, sways, springs, etc etc....

I've just always been a huge fan of the NSX and this seems to be a good opportunity to aquire one. It'll take a lot of $$ and time to bring it up to where I want it, I just hope it's a good base to start with.

Still waiting to hear if the financing is going to go thru or not. It's not easy on such an old car.

Wow, that's quite a lengthy report...but it looks clean. Thanks for popping that up for me. Appears to have lived it's whole life in Spokanne...not getting driven very much either. What a shame...such a nice car.

I'm in the area, I can swing by with you - show you my 91 and look to see if anything jumps out at me. And ya, the clutch on my car catches high too - it always did (no guarantee that it won't need replacing tho). PM me if you're itnerested in getting together.

oh yeah, Brian is minutes away from there, duh... Brain go check out his car for this fellow... I can sense that if he owns a nsx, he'll be one of the active guy in our area...

FYI: Aug 18, me and Freelance201 will be at the Alfa track day at Pacific Raceway. Aug 27, we'll have a group drive to Mt. Baker, DrVolkl you should come with us, be it you still have your 350Z or you acquired your nsx by then!!

Well after pulling a ton of strings with the bank, etc...looks like the car is basically mine. I'm going down tomorrow to sign all the paperwork and say goodbye to my baby. How can there be so much joy and sorrow at the same time? I hope I'm doing the right thing here! Just have to keep reminding myself what I'm getting....a beautiful silver NSX. Yummy.

Let the modding begin...anyone have aftermarket rims they're selling?

Bump... Has it been that long? lol

Jesus, if I had known what this would have lead to, I would have ran away!

Sorry Cozmo, now you're hooked...
