Best tires? $$ or miles not issue

So i only drive about 1,000 miles a year (got 2 bikes and also travel all sunny season) and ill be doing a few trackdays, so i dont care if they only last 1-2,000 miles, seriously (we only get about 100miles out of our bike race tires)

Im gonna get some new wheels from SoS this month ordered and want new tires...

My sizes will be 18/19" So 215/35-18 and 265-285/30-19"

What do you guys like? Tried? TIA

I did a search and found a few sets

-Pirelli PZero Nero (275 rear)
-BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2 (265 rear)
-Continental ContiSportContact 2 (295 rear)

Those only ones i found in close sizes. The rears 265-295 will fit, but front must be 215. I really would like to get more of a "race" tire...not nessacarily a heat cycle type of tire, but lets hear your input. thanks

The tire Guru would recommend the goodyear GS D3's. PERIOD.

I say buy the stickest best dot rubber you can since you only drive 1000 miles a year since the rears will be gone in under 8000 miles.

In the 19" rear, SUPERIOR tires are hard to find. Good tires are out there, but there are better ones available in 18" rear.
 
Your tire choices will increase if you are not married to 18/19.
 
i realize the 18/19" is tougher. I have Toyo T-1R's on it now, no complaints but not sure how they compare to say the Pirelli's.

Goodyear huh? hmm...ill check them out, after all we were a Dunlop race tire dist for 6 years and sponsored still by them, i have great contacts at GY/Dunlop...interesting.

Since you have dunlop contacts, I'm running 285/30/19 Dunlop SP9000 Sports. So far they've been GREAT tires. Tirewear is about.... 220 I believe. I like them alot. Just expensive.
 
I used to run Toyos and now use BFG KDW. They are summer performance tires that will fit your wheels. You will notice significant improvement in traction on laucnches and wet driving. For the price they are tough to beat. You can usually get a great buy on them at Costco. Costco tends to be less than Tirerack and it includes mounting, balance, disposal!

Let me try and answer your question directly...

Getting sticky almost Competition DOT rated Tires is tough in 18/19. Especially with 215/35/18 fronts.

With 215/35/18 Fronts, Toyo T1-Rs are available in 215/35/18 and 315/25/19 which has been done (I know I'm running them with 225s and 235s up front and on a stock body car...) But without proper suspension tuning, its not ideal. Ideal in the sense NSXs came with roughly a 40mm difference in tread width front to rear. Going 100mm throws things a lil out of whack. I've gone and done NSX-R Stabilizer Bars up front, NSX-R Front Anti Sways, NSX-S/Zanardi Rear Anti Sways, and Dali Racing Rear Chassis Stiffen Bar. I've got my suspension worked around my wheel tire combo instead of the other way. They also have 285/30/19s which aren't as problematic with the stagger as the 315s.

Continental Conti2s are also available in 215/35/18 front and 315/25/19 rear along with the 295/30/19 or 275/30/19s.

If you really want to increase tire selectiong while maintaining 18/19, then 225/35/18 opens you up to Michelin PS2s which come in 275-295/30/19s. Also Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position are available in 225/35/18 and 275/30/19.

Depending on what year your car is, I'd make different suggestions.

Theres my thread in regards to how offsets play a major role on what tires to use. This was a thread in response to 315s being considered poor handling and showed how they always had rubbing (had to do more with fronts being larger then 215s.)

It shows that with the right offset larger fronts and rears can be used, and with suspension tuning you can correct for the oversized wheels and tires. Are there other issues, off course... but its the best in minimizinf form over function which sounds like you might have as well in trying to stick with the 18/19.

Yeah, thanks. Im not oppossed to 225/35-18" im just worried they wont fit. My car is LOW and with the WorkMiester S3 18x8" wheels the 215/35 rubs on full lock now..(not that thats huge deal) i just dont want the tires to hit the fenders. I can EASILY go to 285-295 rears with my 19x11" rears, the 275 looks silly IMO on my car cause its streched to fit the 11" rear.

Anyone running 225/35-18" and say 285 or 295/30-19" on their lowered NSX? Issues?

I had 235/30/18s on 18x8 ET 38 (I know you want an 18x8.5 for a 235/30...) but it worked and fit without any rubbing. Then again, I have only Eibach Springs and Bilstein Shocks on the tallest setting with brand new fender liner clips to keep everything snug...

315/25/19s fit out back also with this combo, and on a 97+ didn't interfere with TCS.

Whats your offsets, based of that... I'll tell you which way makes more sense or less...
 
+1 for Yokohama Advans, or Advan Neova...if you drift a lot (in which i hope you don't) some Federal 595 RSR would be great.

very nice. I want 235 fronts when I go down to 17/18. I pulled th fuse on my tcs. It just gets me into trouble when the back end breaks free because it's harder to control.

Recently Hot version conduct a nice test between the best 4 tires in this class:
Bridgestone RE11 (not available here yet), Dunlop Z1 star spec (my favorite), Advan AD07 and the Toyo R1R. Seems like the toyo is not as good as the others while Ad07 is slightly worse than the other 2 being it's the oldest tire in this comparison.

ps2 is my choice AND you will notice that the 225/35/18 actually measures shorter than other 225/35/18s - only slightly taller than most 215s

Make sure that the new wheels have the same offset and weigh the same or less than stock wheels. Otherwise you are possible wasting money.
