I have a friend with an NSX and he says that when he washes and waxes his car he only uses the bathroom napkins from PF CHANGS... now i've felt these and they are very soft and i'm not quite sure what the fabric is on these... he says everytime he's there he takes a few hundred!

He says these don't scratch one bit.... anybody here have thoughts on these (bathroom) towels?

I wouldn't.

Most commercial bathrooms use disposable towels made of paper. Paper products will scratch the finish. A few upscale establishments use real fabric (terry cloth) but these are likely to be polyester-cotton blends (cotton for softness, polyester for strength and durability), which may also scratch the finish. If they're real fabric, you'll see a separate container (in addition to a garbage can) for the towels, so that they can be washed and re-used.

The long-time recommendation by professional car detailers is to use 100 percent cotton products ONLY, and this has been supplanted in the past few years by recommendations for microfiber towels. Either is likely to be better for the finish than something found in a commercial restaurant's rest rooms.

P.S. This is a topic in which comquat1 has the expertise!

P.P.S. I don't condone stealing bathroom supplies from restaurants. Regardless of whether or not they are good for your car. Calling something you steal "free" is shameful.

thanks... well i guess if you went in and ate at the restaurant and asked if you could take a pile of bathroom towels they would say ok... so its not stealing i guess...

these are disposable towels/napkins... just a very soft fabric blend... the marriott uses them as well in some of their higher quality hotels.

Do you REALLY think your friend goes up to the hostess and asks, "You don't mind if I take a FEW HUNDRED of your bathroom towels, do you?" Get serious! No matter how you try to bend over backwards to rationalize it, your friend is stealing.

Being in the Jan/San business I have access to pretty much as many "paper products" my little heart desires. I'd be lying to you if I said I use my highest end hand towels to dry my car's paint. Regardless of how soft the paper is, it's not Microfiber or 100% cotton, therefore, it's bad for your paint. A paper towel will not lift and suspend soil, which will end up in a scratch.
Microfiber or 100% cotton are the only things that touch my paint, 99% of the time I use Microfiber towels that I sell.

On another note, I'm sure I've got some Jumbo rolls of TP that's somewhat soft if he wants them, tell him I'll give a hell of a deal. Then he can use them for both wiping his car and his azz.....

Just go to costco and get a bag of Microfiber towels.

If more picky go to Meguiars.com and order the ultimate wipe or the Gold Class terry.
