I have read several articles and still do not have a clear picture of the effects of OBD2. Will it really de-tune any bolt on performance mods that I/We may put on our cars? Any help is GREATLY appreciated
OBD2 is what they came up with to standardize the way ecm codes are read and they also have a generic set of codes that all the manufactures use for the same faults. Some '95 model cars and all '96 and up cars are equipped with OBD2. The newer a car gets more systems are monitored. As far as OBD2 de-tuning your car, the manufacturer of the mod you are installing has to come up with a way to make it compliant with OBD2. That is why in California it is such a hassle to get some things CARB certified (California Air Resources Board). So OBD2 or non OBD2 your mods should work if designed properly. Hope this helps.
