Keyless Entry Question.

My 1991 keyless entry does not work. I have tried a new battery in the remote. (Red light on remote flashes but does not unlock doors.) Should I try a new remote? I have tried reprogramming the remote module. (Appears not to have been successful?) The Lock/unlock button in car works correctly. Secruity light flashes on drivers door when car is locked.(Using lock button or key.)
Previous owner said there was a loose wire somewhere? Is there a way of checking the keyless module to see if it is working?
Thanks everyone in advance.

Are you sure the module itself is actually installed?
It should be located behind the glove box. It is an add-on feature and the fact that you have the remotes indicates it was probably installed at one time - may have been removed however?
Note that the security & keyless entry are completely seperate so the fact your security is working is not relevant to the keyless remote entry.

I am sure I have it because I removed it to see if anything looked burned up in it and to reprogram it per the instructions I found on this site. Is it possible to have a bad wire somewhere between the module and locking mechanism even though the lock button works? Can I check the module antenna?

I'm not sure you can program a 1991 keyless, pretty sure you CANNOT. The remotes are preset at the factory (Kenwood really) and you need to get remotes matched...the module doesn't learn.

So if you have a learning remote and a 1991 module: its not gonna work.

You need to call your dealer or Kenwood, read off the s/n to the module, your VIN (don't know why) and they will order some new remotes....$80 each.

I am pretty sure this is the case, unless the remotes are backwards compatible and the best research I was able to do when I got my NSX was "NO".

I had an issue similiar to this, under the glove compartment side there is a cover that has the stock remote recevier attached to it, follow the wires to the connector that splices into it and there is a fuse (3 amp). See if this is blown, I have replaced mine once when I jump started the car with cables from the battery as opposed to the engine compartment. Good lick. I have pictures of the replacement I did if you need to identify the location better. :p

I opened up the keyless entry module to try again to reprogram it. The two largest brown colored transitors/capacitors(don't know what they are?) have gold colored goop around the bottom of them onto the circuit board. Is this normal? Are they leaking?
Thanks. Wswen

Post a picture of the "goop".

Q. What makes you so sure you can program a 91/92 keyless entry system?

It sounds like you have a 91/92 receiver and 93+ remotes....they don't mix.

Yup, that "gold goop" is Normal. The goop you mentioned is common electrical sealant. It seals and secures the electrical components to the circuit board to prevent corrosion. That "goop" is kind of like glue...nothing to be alarmed about. Mercedes & BMW use that stuff like candy on their circuit-boards. As do TV's & Playstations ;)

Best of luck!

I too had this problem; when I purchased the car the keyless system was not working. After taking things apart I found the 3amp fuse; blown.

My local radio shack did *not* have any 3amp fuses, so I went with the next best thing, 5amp. Has anyone else done the same? It seems that the 3amp is prone to failure, but the circuitry must be quite fragile, and a 3amp fuse is there for a reason...

Sigh.. I guess I should find a 3amp for it..

I can offer you a new keyless entry system with two remotes made by Directed Electronics (the Viper people) for only $50.00. It has ten times the range of a factory Kenwood and is very reliable. Should easily be installed in under an hour.

Feel free to call 813-882-8477 for any assistance.

Andy, once again you use these forums as nothing but your personal market-place. Your posts rarely fail to finish without a solicitation to buy your various wares. This one doesn't even have a disguise as all it has is a solicitation.
If you must use 'Prime for this purpose, then at least follow the protocols & use the appropriate forum However it would be nice if for once you actually contributed something of value to go along with it.

The fact that you are not interested in a keyless entry system at this time does not mean that others would not benefit from a great deal on a quality system. The system that I offer is far superior to the factory unit and would solve many nsx owners problems. When I sell a unit to an nsx owner, I provide a wiring chart with wire color code and location for the year of their vehicle to ease the install procedure.

I am not here to disguise anything and find offense in your idea of a self serving post. My goal is to help those in need of assistance with the topic of the post. The factory nsx system is antiquated technology that has been problematic for many. I have a solution.

D, if you dont need assistance, move on to another post. I am here to assist those that desire assistance and are looking for a better solution.

One really useful feature of the forums is doing a search for all posts by a user. Just click on the username, then select Find more posts by Andy Buzz. Then decide if you want to do business with this guy or if every post is just another sales pitch. Buyer beware.

FWIW, aftermarket keyless entry systems are not much simpler to install than an aftermarket alarm system. I would say it's not the easiest DIY and if you were going to go through all that trouble, you should just go and get an all out alarm and it will be able to do your doorlocks as well.

Wow - just look at all these occasions with offers to "help" the 'Prime members.

Every single one of these below contains a solicitation to buy something from you & not one is from the vendor forum - I deliberately excluded those.

Pretty amazing hit rate for someone with only 147 posts.

Does it maybe say something when you post so many solicitations yet still have a trader rating of ZERO?

(this one actually my favourite - this was a thread to enlist support - contributions - for a vandalized NSX;
you didn't contribute to the fund but did seize the opportunity to mention you just happen to sell surveilance equipment!!)

SLAM!!!! WOW!!!! You really got me and with such useless information. Fact is that I am in the mobile electronics business twenty two years and have over 50,000 satisfied customers. D and Malibu, if you dont like my posts dont read them. It is is rather obvious that you have nothing better to do than sit on the internet and complain.

Want to learn about real NSX car audio and electronics? I have a very nice NSX job in progress in my shop in Tampa. The car will be heading to California in a few weeks so you may get to see it there. All in carbon fiber hydro, she is looking fantastic. The Eclipse AVN is custom mounted and carbon matched console. The Buzz sub box loaded with our subwoofer sounds fantastic. The custom trunk, lighting and plexi work looks great.

There are few true custom car audio shops in the US. I own one of the best but the fact that you think you know everything and you do not. I am a gentleman and have never hyjacked either of your posts regardless of how incorrect your suggestion or opinion. I am not looking for either of your answers, suggestion or comments.

I hate to see this thread get hijacked but there is a difference between helping others and selling things. If vendors just posted on every thread which asked for help and tried to sell a stereo to everyone who had a bad door amp, NSXPrime would turn into a big SPAM forum. Andy, you're not helping, you are spamming! People are asking how to fix something and you're trying to sell them something. A simple search on your posts would reveal that all you do in every message you post is try to make a sale, you are a SPAM machine! As has been pointed out already, there is an appropriate forum for vendors to post in and that's where your sales pitches belong. You and your broken record line about 50,000 satisfied customers should be banned from this site IMO.

Malibu,

If you dont need assistance with a keyless entry system, why do you reply to this thread? I am not trying to convert your opinion so lets agree to disagree. Please dont waste my time with your reply.

IF ANY NSX PRIME MEMBER NEEDS A QUALITY KEYLESS ENTRY OR SECURITY SYSTEM, PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR ASSISTANCE.
