Need install suggestions Valentine-1

In an effort to keep my unblemished driving record that way, I'm considering buying a V-1 for the NSX. I don't generally speed excessively but as some of you have probably noticed, a red NSX tends to attract unwanted attention ;)

So, here is my dilemma. Va. outlaws radar detectors so I have to be somewhat stealthy. In a car this low, I assume up higher is better than sitting on the dashboard, especially for the rear view. A power cord draped across the dash is also somewhat undesirable as well as drawing more attention. The PO had a remote Whistler installed, running to the small receiving unit hidden in the ashtray but it was a POS and worse than worthless since it instilled a sense of security that didn't exist. I removed the whole thing and booted it into the trash receptacle. I've also had an Escort Solo in the past and might as well have just thrown the money out an open window while driving down the road. I believe the Valentine is the best detector out there and so that's what I'm going to get if I can figure all this out.

So, open to suggestions to somehow hardwire it in and perhaps mount if to the top of the rearview mirror (?). Or, has anyone come up with a clever may to mount it with a GPS so that it looks almost like one unit? It's a targa top so whatever limitations that imposes has to also be considered.

Really appreciate any ideas (other than the obvious one of just do not speed - you drive the speed limit on I-95 around here and you'll be run over by a soccer mom in a mini-van on her cell phone or an eighteen wheeler who thinks he's doing the cannonball run).

I have the Dali mount between the seats next to the rear window glass. Not immediately seen, and if you have tint on the rear hatch, even better. I have a remote display sitting by the guages, but you can put the remote display wherever you like--ashtray, clock area maybe? Even better get one of the v1 rear view mirror displays.

Nick - did you hardwire the unit in and if so, what did you tap into back there? Thanks.

Actually the unit was already hard wired when I got the car, I just relocated it from the top/middle of the dash to the back. I believe the wire travels to the fuse box near the driver footwell (though I could be wrong).

I smashed mine with a sludge hammer what a hunk of sh!t

I had a V1 mounted between the seats, with a concealed display integrated into my dash. Once I installed a double DIN navi, I had to get rid of it; apparently Valentine 1's do not like to have a touchscreen in their line of sight, if there is one, they get constant false positives, across different bands, and when there is a real detection, it cannot locate the source.

I removed my V1, and Blinder M20 laser diffuser, and installed a Beltronics RX75 Plus - I would highly recommend this unit, its a full installation radar detector, that means it has components mounted in your front and rear bumpers, with only the control module in the car. If you mount the control module somewhere hidden (glovebox, ashtray, console), you can reduce the accessible parts of the unit to an LED, which goes from green to red when there is a detection (can be inserted into your cluster), and a remote mute button, to disable the speaker if you do get pulled over, or there is a K-band road sign, etc.

I have been driving around with the RX75 Plus for about 3 weeks now, I am very pleased, it has gone off for F and R laser a few times, and seems to be just as capable as the V1 for Ka band detections (the only band really used here in SoCal), a few false K and X band from automatic doors, just like the V1.

Wanna sell me your V1?

Hope the Virginia Highway Patrol doesn't have any Spectre RDD units. Otherwise your efforts of concealment will be in vain. Apparently the V1 can't hide from this radar detector detector, yet:wink:.

Has anyone else had this problem with a V1 getting a false warning from an AVIC-700? Im having the same setup installed at SOS in Jan.
