New Owner! 1991 Red/Black

I did it. I finally did it. After 3 years of lusting, I finally have my NSX. I sold my S2000 just a week ago to fund a little over 50%.

The car I bought is a bone stock 1991 Red/Black, 3 owners, presumably never tracked. It's not anywhere near mint condition, but for a car as old as me, it's been taken care of pretty well. The only parts that aren't stock are some hilariously ugly 17/18 chrome wheels, which need to go ASAP.

Immediate plans for the car: smog it, register it, and drive it! It will also need a new timing belt/water pump, as this service was last done in 2008 but only 11,000 miles ago. I am considering putting this off for a few months at most. The brake fluid is dirty so I will bleed it myself. In the meantime I'll probably look for some cheap OEM 15/16 wheels, just for that classic look.

This means no more track days for me, at least for a while, while I get the maintenance up to date and slowly refill my savings account.

I've been waiting to officially join this forum for a long time now. Hope to meet many of you in the near future!

Congrats on your new purchase! I saw this one listed on craigslist - glad it went to a good home.

Thanks! Another prime member tried to purchase it via finance from out of state a couple months ago, but the seller apparently changed his mind due to some minor complications in the financing process. So it definitely helped that I met the seller in person and made it clear I wasn't a tire kicker.

those three spoke antera's were very trendy in the RX-7 world back in the day.

I had no clue what they even were when I bought the car. I just knew they needed to go. I'm trying to look up how much they're worth, but not finding many for sale.

With OEM 15/16 wheels and tires you will be joining the increasingly exclusive "Fat Five Federation"
With few members we are preserving the original OEM look lest others forget

Kidding aside welcome to ownership.
Stock NSX's are become very rare.
You have one of the few.

Haha, YES! Honestly I don't mind the stock look of the 1991 too much. 15/16" wheels still look kinda proper on the NSX, somehow.

Went for a short scenic drive just now. Man. It feels good.

Congrats. I've got a 93 bone stock with oem 5 spoke and oem 7 spoke wheels. Running the 7 spokes, but holding on to the 5's. I like the look of both.
Where are you located? You tube video looks midwest-ish?

Congrats and welcome to the ownership, glad those wheels are on the way out lol

Yup, I just need to figure out what offsets they are so i can post em for sale.

Northern California. And yes, I gotta get me some stock wheels asap. Never thought I'd say that about a car!

Glad you mentioned the wheels have to go or every post here would be about how ugly those wheels are. However, when I was in high school 20 years ago, my friend had those on his Ford Escort and we all thought he was the $hit! Haha, thanks for the memories.

The ugly rim progression went from those Antera 3 spokes, to blades, to spinners and now made a whole circle back to those obnoxious "swangers" (those spoked wheels that stick out about a foot and make it impossible for you to drive through a toll booth, or park, or just stay inside the lanes, or make any turns, or anything car handling related really) maybe keep them another 10 years and they'll be the hottest thing on the ghetto block again.

Congrats and welcome to the NSX family.

Congrats and welcome! I just got my first one a month ago and I'm still loving it!!!

Thank you both! This car is definitely a keeper.

I hate those obnoxious wheels that stick out. They honestly should be illegal.

I'm wondering what to do with my Anteras. I can't find any for sale so I have no idea what they're worth nowadays, but if anyone is interested, shoot me an offer via PM and I'll consider it. They're wrapped in 215/255 Bridgestone Potenza S04 Pole Position tires with plenty of tread left.

I doubt there's much of a market left for them, you can always take them to a cheap used tire and wheel shop and see what they'll offer to take them off your hands or polish them real nice and turn them into cool end tables with a piece of round glass on top.

Congrats!

I have now 3 sets of 15/16 wheels...I love them, and track tires are dirty cheap!
I would keep the tires and sell the wheels for something like $300. They are very heavy, switching back to the fat fives will just enhance your driving experience.

Check on the radiator hoses, they will probably need replacement.

Enjoy it!

I thought I could get a lot more than $300 for the Antera 109's... once I get OEM wheels I'll post in the FS section and see what happens I guess.

2 of the coolant hoses have been replaced. The Acura dealership who inspected the car said the other hoses looked fine.

Enjoy!

Cannot go wrong with OEM wheels. I prefer the OEM 16/17 7-spoke in alloy silver.

I'd love a set of NA2 wheels, but can't find them for a decent price.

Nice car. Whatever you do, keep that cassette deck. You never know when tapes will make a comeback!

Haha, for sure. I plan to keep the interior totally stock, until the day I decide to make it a track car.

Congrats! This is the one in Redwood City, right?

Where in NorCal are you located?

Yup, purchased from previous owner in Redwood City. I'm located in San Jose.

Also, my girlfriend made some interesting comments while riding in the car yesterday. She said compared to my S2000 with coilovers/intake/exhaust/wheels, the stock NSX is way more comfortable, roomy, and less edgy to ride in. She said the engine sounds more exotic and mature at full throttle, and the acceleration is more impressive. She specifically mentioned that I had to shift gears a few times before I could accelerate hard in the S2000, which is totally true since it's a 6 speed with shorter gear ratios and no torque, whereas the NSX has a smooth output of torque with fewer/longer gears. She also mentioned the S2000 felt more like a "toy", whereas the NSX feels like it's for an "old man", whatever that means. I also asked how she liked the exterior compared to my neighbor's clean red FD RX7, and she said the RX7 looks modern while the NSX is "boxy". I won't deny that. I think the FD still has perhaps the best exterior lines of any Japanese sports car, ever.

Regardless, I'm glad she likes it. :)

Congrats ! I am happy you bought this one. The seller was a nice guy because he actual paid me back for the PPI so ill give him that !
Talking about those ugly wheels, I was so put off by it that I started searching for new tires and rims even before I bought the car haha ! Also I'd be curious to know if the TC works once you put the "right" sized wheel on her. Have fun and keep us updated

PS: Apologies on not being able to help you out with a copy of the carfax you requested, I was actually vacationing in the bay area and could not get back to you on time. Welcome to the club !

No worries on the carfax. Your thread gave me confidence and the car checked out either way, so I'm happy.

I'll probably re-enable the TC once I get the stock wheels mounted and see how it does in the canyons. I'm hoping the steering lightens up a bit at low speed with the small wheels.
