NSX Recall

We are absolutely being undercut the time. That said, 50 hours is obnoxiously long for this job. Something either went wrong or the tech got lost or confused with the instructions of the procedure. My first one took around 30 with me being overly cautious. Second one was right around 20. I feel that I could get down to 15 hours without compromising safety and risking damage to the vehicle. That’s still a fry cry away from the 10.2 we’ll get paid by American Honda. If you should ever need your fuel tank module(s) replaced in the future when the car is off warranty, guarantee that the dealer will charge you way more than 10 hours.

So there can be a risk of fire in the future.:wink:

So I was talking to the service guy and here is an interesting one.

Guy brought in his NSX for the recall and they started to check it out.

A modified exhaust and throwing codes/ check engine light on.

They stopped and told him to get it fixed before they would continue.

He almost voided his warranty and might still...

I was told 50 hours. Whether accurate or not I do not know. I was told it was an intensive job, and they had to drain all 7 gallons (1) of coolant. I also think the tech was being careful and methodical. I'd guess the next one will be faster. All I know........

I think maybe they’re being a little hyperbolic maybe to justify the time they kept your car. I wasn’t there to know if they’re really into it for 50 hours or not. But I do know without a doubt that 7 gallons of coolant is wrong. It’s approximately half that.

I'm just passing on what the service manager told me. I have no idea to it's validity. Probably 5-6 of the 11 days they had the car were down days waiting on the 2 missing parts. It likely should have taken 4-5 days to do it. He accomplished it going through the bottom of the car and did not take any body panels off the car. Anyway, my car is done, and appears to be working as it was before.

Got my NSX back Saturday (Metro Acura, Montclair CA/ Tech is Sergio). Sergio had my car for 6 days, he did the tanks, chmsl and t stat, he accomplished the tanks without removing body panels (all the work from underneath, wow what a pain in the ass). After completing all of the work, he did 3 vapor systems tests just to verify/ confirm all was good. I picked it up and had no sluggish sensations as reported on the board. A big thumbs up to Sergio...

Wow..... Great video. Of all the 1000's of hours I've spent looking up NSX stuff on the web, I've never run across this one..... Shows the amazing technology and build quality of the car. I would love to see the factory, but not going to pay $3k.......

I would say those are the gas tanks......

Think the family with the stroller paid $3k to go through there? Not sure what the circumstances were, but I guess they’re allowing filming in PMC now. It’s been over two years since I’ve been through there, but cameras were strictly prohibited.

and yes those were absolutely the gas tanks.

I've seen several videos on the PMC plant posted on youtube.

I received mine today as well

Noting that there were 2 separate pieces of mail, one for the fuel tanks and the other for the hi center mounted brake light

Got mine too

The brake light one is fine, the fuel tank one specifically says that the parts are NOT available, and they expect them to be available in January....

Got my toy back today.
Runs fine, but there were water spots all over it (we had a drizzle).
The service guy said they freaked when they restarted the car and the dash lit up like a Xmas tree.
They cleared that all up.
Pictures were taken by service guy.

After seeing what it takes to wrench on this car, I don't think I will install a lift anytime soon.........

I even priced a TLX as I may sell my Cadillac tomorrow.

didn't he already say the specific extra cost was 70k?

Makes me wonder about all the NC1 specific tools you needed to procure.

didn't he already say the specific extra cost was 70k?

Depending on if the dealer already had some compliant equipment or not (which just about all of us didn’t), the total outlay was well over $100k to sell and service the NSX. A lot of it was excessive and completely unnecessary. Like a $20k cabinet for the showroom. Or being forced to carry at a minimum a few grand worth of accessories that nobody will ever buy. $400 for some sunglasses anyone?

NSX specialist what a joke

NSX specialists are trained to provide customer service for the car, the only problem with them is they are powerless to make any decisions on repairs. Only the incompotents engineers in Ohio can do that. My recall took almost a month, worst wannabe super cAr you can buy or lease. Poor engineering, stupid and ngineers in Ohio, and Acura is Honda, buy an Audi R8 instead. QUOTE=nsx878;1980722]Thought I'd start a new thread concerning the NSX recall......

My car goes in for gas tank replacement on Oct 8th. I was told parts are available and that they will have my car 4-5 days. So, in on Monday and back on Friday hopefully.

I was also told that my car, Chassis #878 built Sept of 2017, would NOT need the thermostat or brake light replaced. It appears that the defects in these 2 parts had been identified and resolved at least by the time my car was produced......

The service tech made a good case to bring the car in sooner than later as he felt the potential for fire was serious enough for Acura to spend all this time and money to do it.
He felt that neither insurance nor warranty would cover the cost of a burned down car, once the recall was out. Not worth the risk I guess, so I have opted to go ahead and do it sooner than later. The closest shop with a competent NSX trained mechanic is a 45 min drive, and they have promised a loaner car.......[/QUOTE]
