I'm looking for a replacement speed sensor (Right Rear) for my 1992 NSX unfortunately it has been discontinued on the dealer website. I was trying to find an aftermarket replacement on Rockauto, but I don't see one thats for the 1991-1994 (Part# 57470SL0010) model, only the 1995+ (Part #57470SL0020 ). Does anyone have one for sale or can point me in the right direction. I'm almost certain that the 1991 - 1994 models are different from the 1995+ ABS. thanks in advance

Well aren't you the lucky one. The right rear happens to be the odd man out in the ABS sensor department. According to the NTK application guide the ABS sensors on the other three wheels are common from 1991 - 2005. Only the right rear changed in 1995 for some reason - I expect a wire routing issue. Sure enough the NTK right rear is out of stock.

Try Amayama or theNSXshop to see if they can provide you with an exact replacement. If either of those solutions do not pan out, consider the following options

1. The NSX wheel speed sensors are reluctance style pick ups which consist of a coil of wire and a magnet. There are no moving parts and no active electronics. In terms or reliability, the sensor itself ranks right up there with salt shakers and rocks in terms of things that don't break. Short of the sensor body being hit by something, what usually fails is the electrical connection to the sensor. If you have already removed the sensor, carefully examine the wiring harness to the sensor looking for damage. Depending on its location, you may be able to effect an easy wiring repair. If the wire is damaged where it immediately exits the sealed sensor body, then that is likely unrepairable.

2. The fact that the other 3 sensors did not change in 1995 suggests that this is not a change to the electronics. I would speculate that there is a change to the wiring harness or perhaps a change to the sensor mounting bracket. Looking at pictures of the NTK sensors for the 1995 and later cars, the sensors all look identical, so I would put bets that Honda changed the wiring harness for the right rear sensor for some reason. The diagrams for the two sensors on the Acura parts web pages suggest that it may be a relatively minor change in the brackets.

With luck, the 1995+ sensor might be longer than the 91-94 sensor and might fit just fine. Worst case is it might require modification of the brackets or switching brackets which might admittedly be a bit of work.

3. If it turns out that your 1992 wiring harness is just fine and it is in fact the actual sensor that has been damaged, consider the option of transplanting a sensor from a 1995+ right rear onto the 1992 wiring harness. Good wiring practises for the splice would have to be observed and you need to maintain the correct polarity of the wiring (the wheel signal does have a + and - slope depending on direction of rotation and if you reverse it on one wheel the ABS / TCS will throw fits).

With luck, Amayama or theNSXshop will pan out. However, if they don't work out there are other options than deactivating your ABS / TCS.

Damn Old Guy! You really are thorough with your explanations! Nice to see someone know so much about our wheel speed sensors.

Interestingly, got the same question on FB group so just going to cut and paste my answer with extra photo;

For Rear Right w/speed sensor, -010 (91-94) is NLA.
Use -020 (95+) instead even for 91-94.
Honda changed the uppermost bracket installation method for 95+.
For 91-94, when using -020, just bend the uppermost bracket 90deg (just flatten it).
Done that on so many NSX here in UK.

The last photo is showing the bracket position/orientation on 91 - 94 models when looked from the above.
