hey gang, i have a 97 black/black targa with 34k on it. i would like to paint the calipers red, and wondered if anyone has done it? and would like to hear some comments abouth them as well as where i could get set up with the materials to do it? is it simply spraying them with a high temp spray paint? how do you get the raised nsx logo painted black on the red? thanks

I painted the calipers on my '91 black/black NSX black (so they would visually "disappear"). All I used was a can of Rustoleum gloss black and a paint brush, after I wire wheeled the calipers to remove any rust I could see. I did all of this with the calipers on the car. The calipers still look brand new after a year!

I thought about red but decided against it for my car. Here is a picture of my wheels.

Michigan, you did the right thing by painting the calipers black as oppose to red. The car looks meaner. Are those 18/19's you're running?

17x7/18x8 with the car lowered approximately 1 1/4" with Eibach Pro-Kit springs. I think the window tinting also adds to the "mean look". Thanks!

I think my avatar picture what you are looking for? I did it on my black/black 92. I removed the calipers and sprayed them with metal primer and then a hi-temp engine paint. While I was there, I replaced the OEM rotors with crossed drilled/slotted ones. I think it's a more updated look. Good luck!

I've been having my calipers done for a year... i just recently got new power slots, and went ahead and powder coated those as well... here's a close up shot, and a shot of my car levitating.

Get them hpc coated...the coating wont come off..i had my rotors done in high luster so it looks like polished aluminum and the calipers done yellow (wishing I would have gone with high luster on calipers too)

Hey man didn't you used to have a mitsu eclipse?

Also how much would it cost to have my calipers done in that HPC coating?

Yep..sure did, ive talked to you through email a couple times when I was trying to decide on an nsx

I will probably get one next summer. My calipers and rotors hpc coated cost me 400 bux. But it will not come off and acts as a thermal barrier and a protective coating. Email me for the guys contact info or go to the website www.hpcoating.com im sending off my valve cover and intake manifold next week.

OK I do remember you sending me a few e mails and I remember you were looking at getting that yellow Supra but after that I never heard anything about you actually getting it. Looks really good. I'm going to check out this HP coating stuff, thanks.

AG NSX,

Very cool!

What rims are those? Do you have any pictures that are more "zoomed out"? From the caliper picture the wheels look pretty sharp!

The wheels are Racing Hart Tracer. I don't believe they are available anymore. Here are more pics.

Have you used FOLICTEC caliper paint. I have a few questions if you dont mind.

1) how is the stuff holding up as far as luster shine and original color?
2) Where did you get FOLICTEC paint from and would you have there phone # or address?

My NSX is RED and the hight temp paint at
the auto parts store has already faded bad. Thanks for the help..........HUNTJAMES

The Foliatec paint holds up well as far as shine and luster. You just wipe off the dirt and it looks new.

However, in terms of endurance. My paint began to turn black after my first track event. Then the black sections began to flake off. I have several large empty patches on my brakes now.

You should be able to order this paint anywhere on the internet. I've heard the brand name has changed so maybe it's not called Foliatec anymore. It should be a 2 part epoxy paint which costs around $50.

Painting caliper is a very simple thing to do. I have been doing it on my cars for years. There are 2 ways to do it.

1st way, for can completly pull off the calipers and paint ther that way. This is the best way.

2nd way is just take off the rims and cover everything else up. this way is a little tricker put requiers less work.

Have fun and remember that they will hold there luster but painted calipers need to be kept cleaner becaseu they will show dirt a lot more. plus if you do it the first way you will need brake fluid and have to beed all the brake lines again, which usally requires 2 people.

Great looking calipers. Thinking of painting mine Monaco Blue Pearl as soon as I can find someone somewhere that would have that color.
Foliatec does not have that color.
Or should I just leave it as is?
Covered by Volk Racing GT-C rims.

Mr. Blue- that would be a hard match..good luck...try some eng. paint at the auto store maybe....

are you going to that sports car meet on Sat? I hope to see you there...
