Hey Guys..

I just got my renewel for my NSX and it tells me I have to report to a STAR Smog Station.. Is that a TEST ONLY station? Seems like they are picking on all of the older cars for this.. Feedback please.. Thanks guys

Hey R-TUNED!

This whole STAR certified smog station is a bunch of bull if you ask me! But to answer your question, I believe you are able to take your car to a Test Only or Gold Shield smog station before January 1, 2013. The position of older NSX's in CA is becoming a bit shaky due to the changes that they are implementing. It's a bit frustrating to be honest.

Below are some links that you may find helpful. The last link provides some information about the STAR Certified Smog Stations.

I got one of these for another car I have. It appears you can go to any smog station until after Jan 1. I checked the CA smog web site and there are no STAR stations currently. They don't seem to exist until the program starts and who knows if they will then.

wtf! This is the first I've heard of Star certified smog. Sure does sound like a bunch of BS.

We'll probably see stricter limits, higher fees & smog prices and less smog station choices to bring our cars to when this Star BS goes into effect.

So the Star stations will replace all the 'test only center' stations? Do all the 'test only center' cars have go to the Star stations now?

If that's the case, then the State just wants to get rid of the 'test only' stations that passed too many cars. They are rewarding stations that fail cars.

Anyone knows what the Star test procedures are? If they don't let the cats get to at least normal operating temperature, most of the older cars won't pass.
