What happens if F/R tyre diameters are too similar?

I have heard that the ECU spits the dummy if the rear tyre diameter is not 5 - 8% more than fronts. So exactly what happens if they are too similar?

TCS aka Traction control knows the existing difference in tire sizes front to rear (over diamiater specifically.) The system calculates this difference and whenever one is outside its parameters, applies the brakes to that wheel to bring it back in line. This is because TCS thinks your tire is slipping.

When you don't maintain that difference, your TCS light will flash and brakes used to correct that matter. Only problem is that matter will not be correctible, so after a certain speed your wheels and tires are basically limiting your speed. Depending on the original year and what size wheels and tires are on it now, some people have had issues going above 30, and some above 100.

Its all based on how much the difference is from what was originally designed.
