what's the future of the hummer?

Seems like only someone narrow minded would make a post like that. I dont have Hummer, but why would you call somebody a dipshit for driving one if it doesn't meet your criteria for ownership. Sounds like the same thing people say about those of us who like assault rifles, why would you need one if you weren't going to war or planning to a massacre, because they are fun to shoot, just like a Hummer may be fun for some people to drive. I am sure many people could say the same thing about people who would drive an NSX. Why have a car you can only fit 2 people in and have to put premium in it. Seems like maybe you would only need an NSX if you could drive it 150 mph and you live by a race track. Same rational as your thoughts on a Hummer.

I have owned a Hummer, they are not fun to drive.

Anyone who thinks they need a hummer and lives where it doesn't snow is buying the car to pose in.

Hi

I agree on the pose factor. However I live in a part of the world where it is usually a lot of snow. (In fact it snowed on friday.) And you do not need a 4*4 if you live somewhere it is snow.

It seems that people with 4*4 drive where only they can drive to "justify" that they need 4*4. I have a Vw Golf I which is a fwd car. I can not park with the front up in steep hills and then drive away. That is why I do not park/stop there.

And maybe it is me that misunderstands people. You have no more grip with a 4*4 compared to a 2*2. You may get up that hill. But you will also get down as fast as I am with no traction at all. 4*4 will not save you in any way when that happens.

Regards

Right, Here is One of my one liners... it's 4 wheel DRIVE not 4 wheel STOP.

I use to live up on top of a mountain and I would not get up the driveway without 4x4. I once took the SL55 out of the garage and when I got back it was snowing. I slid off my driveway about 1/2 way up and the car sat in the yard for 2 weeks until the snow melted.

The H1 is a serious offroad FTW vehicle,
it looks rugged and drinks diesel.

And performs like a spoiled child that doesn't want to play in comparison with something like a Unimog. I've sunk a hummer in mud and rolled one (on Uncle Sam's dime, oddly after that I never got to drive again) They're big, stout and can part a sea of cars without a problem one way or another, but they aren't all they're cracked up to be offroad.

I didn't read this whole thread but as far as the H1 I can tell you this. I was at a GOV.ment auction last week and there was two H1's. Both white 2 dr with the pick-up bed. 65k on them. They brought 17k and 19k:eek: I was flabergasted, I was thinking 6-8k, boy was I way off:eek:

I am getting 9.6 mpg in my V10 M5, eat that hummer ;)

My H1 usually gets between 14-17 mpg. for an 11000 lb truck, i dont think thats bad at all. And I would be will to bet that the interior of my truck is every bit as comfy as any full size truck on the road.

Anyone who thinks they need a hummer and lives where it doesn't snow is buying the car to pose in. Only someone narrow minded would live where it doesn't snow and fail to see that a huge 4x4 is useful to people who live where it does snow. Hummers do serve a USEFUL purpose and should only be sold in the Northeast or to people who go 4x4ing in the desert out west. If someone wants to buy a Hummer to drive on the 405 to and from work, well that person is just a dipshit.

If I had the spare change, I'd love to be that dips* :) I would take it out to the mountains and off-roading for fun though..

H1, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,wish I had one!

Freaking bad-ass! Have you ever tried taking this to a "car wash for high school sports" events

isnt that just like saying "if we own a nsx we should be track kings" or if we get a subaru sti we should be rally drivers

i say let them drive whatever they want..

Hopefully in years to come we will all laugh about the Hummer for civilian purchase. The Military has a demonstrated need for such a vehicle.

I just love that 99% of the Hummers where I live are all chromed out, not a single scratch, driven by single occupants on paved streets with dressed tires. All these guys trying to butch-up in their Hummers......

You mean like this?

"we are a Ford F150 nation".

I think it is about time that the US understands that they can't use fuel as they have used fuel. More fuel efficient cars has to be the way to go.

Martin,
Most Americans can't get into a fuel efficient cars. The majority of Americans are overweight according to the latest poll; hence, the big SUVs and pickup trucks. (but that is not the only reason for driving this type of vehicles)

Furthermore, the trend is not looking good.

Hi

I would think that laughing is not what should happen. Crying is more the way to go. We (all the other people that do not run "gas guzzlers" cry all the time.

It's funny, I could not careless what anyone thinks. I'd give up my nsx for a diesel H1. It's always been at the top of my "gotta have it" list. I just love cars in general and the more unique, the more I tend to like it. So in my garage, I would have a smart AND a H1. If I can afford it and willing to afford it, I'll pay for it.

My nsx seats two and holds luggage for two for a weekend, gets ~24 mpg. The H1 diesel can seat 4-6(with the center seat I believe), can hold luggage for all and probably weeks worth, and gets 14-17mpg. The smart seats 2 and holds luggage for two also for a weekend and gets ~36 mpg.

If 4 people wanted to go somewhere for a weekend, they'd require:
2 nsx - 12 mpg
2 smart - 18 mpg
1 H1 - 14-17mpg

5 people for a weekend:
3 nsx - 8mpg
3 smart - 12 mpg
1 H1 - 14-17mpg

If 2 people wanted to go somewhere for an afternoon for say a BBQ and wanted to bring a grill....... they'd pretty much be screwed in the nsx and the smart.

Good riddance to bad rubbish!

I had a 2005 Hummer H2 and I had to replace the transmission after 50 000 miles. Surprise surprise it was just outside of warranty. My first and most likely my last North American vehicle.

However on the positive side, it had a nice interior and it drove like a tank during the craziest snow storms.

Their future is at the scrap yard where they should have been since day one. H1 is a nice vehicle but is it really necessary to sell them to the entire population when only a small number of people will actually use them for what they're supposed to be used for? Just look at all the H2 and H3 models.
