Which car(s), if any, look better than the Nsx?

Which of these cars look better than an Acura NSX?

It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

IMO it's this subdued characteristic of the Nsx that has allowed it to aesthetically withstand the test of time,as opposed to other supercar designers who have used the "shock and awe" design approach only to spark interest for that particular time frame. The Nsx design is millennium-proof, where as cars such as the miura, countach and the like have become emblems of the past. It's jet-fighter design still contends with the best of them today, that cannot be said about some of these other cars, despite of their historical impact on the automotive world.
That said, the miura is stunning In it's own regard, much like the 280z. Just not 2013 stunning :p

Frankly, I disagree. The NSX is not 2013 stunning. The styling is a future classic - it is the absolute essence of the '90s. While I understand you feel strongly about the car (I love it too), I think you will find that if you ask any group of enthusiasts for a certain model of car, they will feel the same way about their model. It's just human nature. The NSX does not look remotely modern, IMO. Definitely not millennium proof - but why would you want that? It is possible to love cars from any generation for what they are. It has to be looked at in historical context, like any work of art.

That's the primary reason why I don't like the later models of the NSX and why I don't think the later years will be quite as collectible (even though they are more rare) as the early cars. The 2002+ NSX is trying too hard to be something it's not. It's still a nice car, but it loses most of that sense of being a classic that is correct for it's time period. The overall design of the NSX was looking far too long in the tooth by the early 2000's to be passed off as modern, which is what honda tried to do.

I'm sure many here will disagree, of course.

I didnt see Pagini ZONDA Z12 in your choices that looks better than an NSX

so my vote is

1 Zonda
2 NSX
3 blah blah blah

I have to admit I also suffer a little "post owning NSX I don't like your car as much anymore" syndrome.

My love for cars in general has grown considerably since owning a NSX including muscle cars...heck, I'd love to build a GT40 one day.

When the NSX is next to a 458 for example, it really shows the age difference. But I still look at her walking backwards or over my shoulder after parking on a street. To me it has an ageless styling.....not quite classic yet but will stand the test of time.

For me now to really go goo goo gaa gaa over a car (for beauty and/or technology) after owning a NSX, it has to be really special...if I had to pick 5 cars:

1) Ferrari F40
2) Ford GT40
3) Pagani Zonda R
4) Koenigsegg Agera R
5) McLaren P1

OK, have to throw in:
6) McLaren F1
7) "Bad Boys" Porsche 911
8) Lamborghini Countach

No more adding to this list.....I'm now daydreaming.....

I don't know man. I see some of these cars listed and I understand when you own a car for awhile a grow attached you build a sort of bond. BUT REALLY?

half of the cars on that list look WAYYYY better than the nsx.

I really have to wholeheartedly disagree with most of this. The NSX design works because it is subdued yes, but it is still not beautiful. It is even awkward in some angles. And dare I say it, maybe a bit plain in some places. Many owners try hard to "update" it, some to make it look better.

And when you stack it up against something like the Miura, it really doesn't compare. If the Miura shape was built today, you can just tell every dealer would be sold out. That Alpha and Lancia too. Those bodies are timeless and really can't be replicated, though car makers try all the time. Even the F355 is arguably a better looking car than the NSX.

You might ask, well why aren't they just putting modern hardware in these classic bodies if they are so great. Well, some people are, if you dig and research a bit. But really, beautiful car bodies have given way to aerodynamics, safety standards and practicality of material. Kind of a shame really. Just take a look at the Zonda then the Huayra.

The 458 Speciale might be one of those classics. The Aventador too.

Well as in anything else in life to each their own. I suppose beauty really is in the eye of beholder but I forgot to add that I was referring to an Nsx done up right. On that note dare I say that many Nsx owners don't know how to update the look of their cars to suit the times. I do agree that in stock form the car does have a few quirks, but with the right wheels/fitment, sideskirts and drop I think it can hang out to stud with the best of them. I also think it may be a generation gap seeing as some of the older gentlemen are partial to cars that they may have lusted over in their childhood, for me that childhood lust was the 355/Nsx :)
i do, however also feel the f50/f40 and koennigseg agera are more beautiful than the Nsx, which is to be expected given their price tag.. But I wouldn't say by far.

i know there are some who swear that Porsche makes some of the most timeless designs. To that i say we have to draw the line somewhere...

I agree. With a few tasteful mods the NSX can hang with the newer cars in the looks department. I know it's a bit unfair to compare a modified NSX to the stock cars listed above but nothing looks more bad @ss than Vroom's NSX. I'd take that car over all the cars listed.

Although I don't consider it one of the best looking cars of all times it is #1 or high on many lists...........the Lamborghini Miura

Here is one list of many

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/22/best-looking-cars-of-all-time_n_1821938.html

+1 very high in the prettiest car list ever,
NSX has a different kind of beauty more in the angular wedge style, (Delta HF, 850I, E38, Legend, etc)

The Miura slots in to the classics lines category, (Miura, E-Type, Stingray, Ghibli, etc)

Thread on car porn, count me in! There are a lot of fabulous looking cars, a few that really stand out for me though are:

Spyker: both inside and out, this car company delivers on aesthetics.
6t2z.jpg

Intermancia Italia: pictures fail to capture how cool this car looks. All the elegance of a classic Ferrari with a dash of bold flair.
3ygh.jpg

Ferrari 400 super america: great lines on this car, blend of cruising and sleek.
efop.jpg

Ferrari 308/328 line, like a fine woman this line had curves in all the right places
0n4e.jpg

The best Ferrari in decades, mostly because they went with some bold styling again

Beauty is truly subjective and is in the eye of the beholders. When I look at some cars in this thread that some people think are beautiful, I have to scratch my head, o.rly?

^Lol at that bottom pic. "Oooh look! A puddle of bacteria laden nasty azz water. Perfect place for a photoshoot."

Couldn't agree more. I do think the Miura is Bertone's best ever.

Yeah, Baby, Yeah!

Dino - so delicate, proportioned just so right, so curvy, so . . . (shudder). There have been only a few cars in my lifetime that I have totally lusted after: 1970 Boss 302, Dino 246GT like this picture, and the NSX.

As far as aesthetics, in order, for me:
1. 1937 Talbot Lago
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...EeUteFJ8qysQSrpYDIBA&ved=0CDEQ9QEwAg&dur=3482
2. Jag E-Type Mk 1
3. Dino
4. Lambo Miura
5. NSX

Now there's a man of taste and breeding. Like the list...not a false note among those choices. Your number 2 is only the car a guy named Enzo called the most beautiful car he had ever seen. And the Talbot is a great list-topper. I was trying to think of a really sweet pre-war design for this thread and you nailed it.

Of course there were some oddly beautiful machines that were produced in the '30s as well, like this jewel:
1938 Hispano-Suiza H6C Dubonnet Xenia Coupe

38-Hispano-Xenia-Dv-12-PBC-01.jpg

After the 1932 Paris Salon, Dubonnet purchased a Hispano-Suiza chassis to create a rolling showcase for his ideas. The car was designed by Jean Andreau, who was known for designing avant-grade streamlined aircraft and automotive creations. The coachwork was done in the shop of Jacques Saoutchik.

Notice anything interesting about the overall styling theme? Like maybe it was inspired by the great racing aircraft of the age? Not unlike the inspiration designers of the NSX took from the F16. Everything old is new again.

Thanks, tof.

Pre-war there were a number of French cars with some interesting and gorgeous designs, among them Delahaye automobiles. Just Google Delahaye and a bunch of images come up, all art-deco.

Oh, and I forgot one to add to my list. I wonder if I'll get flak for this one (again, eye of the beholder), but I've always considered the '68-69 Dodge Charger to be a beautiful design, from the coke-bottle flanks to the flying buttresses. (Not '70 with the ugly chrome surround grill). I'm on the fence whether I prefer '68 with the round pairs of taillights and uninterrupted grill or the long horizontal lights and split grill on the '69.

And while I am at it, the so-called "mid-year" vette ('63-67) and its "Mako Shark" successor ('68-72) weren't too bad, either.

I am SO showing my age. Sigh.

Apologies for straying a bit off the original intent of the thread.

The only thing you have to apologize for, is the lack of pics. :sour:

Yes, you are right, guilty as charged. But I'm sure you'll understand that I am posting during quick breaks while at work, and that posting pictures is not exactly a 1- or 2-minute exercise here on Prime (at least for me it's not).

Almost any Corvette with chrome bumpers after C1 would make my list of beautiful cars.
Yup, a Big Block C2 and a C3 are beautiful cars.
'60 & '70's Italian & Japanese cars are very pretty as well,

Although late eighties early nineties cars have a very cool look to them; 850, 750, M3, Delta, NSX, Legend, 964, etc
