I just bought a 92 NSX not too long ago.
I don't know what ring & ping in the car?
The previous owner had the gears changed to Japanese short gears. I got receipts and checked all part numbers. According to receipt that dealer also replaced ring and pinion.
I found two information on the forum that I think I can determine what I have.
1. The RPM for either 5-speed in 5th gear at 80 mph with different R&P's
is shown below.
R&P RPM@80mph
4.06 3440
4.23 3584
4.55 3855
*This is from someone's post on this forum.*
2. 4.235 pros: cheaper ($1000). OEM quality because it is OEM. "Livelier" feel (not neck snapping, but like you removed all the spare tire/tools/cats/headers & that overweight 'instructor' you were hauling around the track etc. and now you can GO! <G>). Not noticeably "buzzy" (3500 rpm turns into 3660 - not that much louder). No new noises at all. *I found this in FAQ*
I took my car out tonight and checked RPM@80mph in 5th gear. it was closer to 3600. Definitely not over 3600.
I did not find any 4.235 parts on the receipt as listed in FAQ.
Do I have 4.235 or stock?
Is there any other way to find out this by myself?
Thanks a lot
