I could be wrong, but unless this was a very light 6 year old, I am betting that he never was in the balloon. It takes a lot of helium to lift 45 or so pounds. Like over 700 cubic feet of it.

WAG prediction: Kid accidentally let the balloon go and is hiding from mom & Dad.

At least I hope so.

I'm sorry but WTF??!! I hope things turn out ok, but if this turns out bad my heart goes out. :frown: Should have thought about the kids more before building the thing. No such thing as harmless device with kids around! They are kids an will FIND a way to screw up you plans. Might have wanted to put a big fence around the thing or lock it up so no one can get in. Maybe more tether lines too.

If it was 4 feet tall and 20 feet wide doesn't that equal (area = 3.1416 x 10 x 10 = 314.16x4) 1256 cubic ft?

EDIT: My math isn't so good. So, please feel free to correct me.

Your math is right, but...

Unless the cop that ran up to it was 8 feet tall, I don't see how the envelope could have been four feet tall...even if it had not been almost 1/3 deflated as it was in early on in the videos.

Beyond that, how much did the craft weigh even without the kid? It was not zero mass. Even about half full at landing, it did not have enough lift to maintain altitude.

I recall an episode of Mythbusters where it took more than 3500 balloons to just barely lift a 4 year old little girl. Even accounting for the greater weight of balloons compared to the mylar UFO, I remain skeptical.

That kid is in deep doo doo! lol Glad he's alive but ouch he's gonna get it!:rolleyes:

However if this turns out to be a FAILED publicity stunt since the family is of the "realty show" clan, kick the dad in the groin and what ever the equivalent is to the mom.

As a police officer, whenever we responded to some type of missing kid, kidnapped kid call, one of the first things you did was search the home from top to bottom thoroughly-twice. That resolved most if those calls without pushing the red button so to speak. Shame these officers did not do that first.

Fox News:

"Falcon Heene, thought to have floated off in balloon, says he was hiding because family 'did this for a show,' raising questions about whether it was a stunt."

Wow, can you believe the outcome of this! After seeing the footage shot while the balloon is lifting off and the terrible acting job by mom and dad, I can't help but LMAO at how deep of poo poo they are in. They wanted a reality show and I believe the reality is about to set in.
