Last night coming home (2am) in my NSX, a Dodge Stratus blew by me on the right shoulder... there was no one else on the road and he had three empty lanes to pass but chose the shoulder.... it was apparant that he was wasted as he couldn't even come close to staying in the lines yet alone staying on the road. So I called 911 from my cell and talked to the police dispatcher. Well the guy gets off and turns around going the other way on the highway back North, so I follow him while talking to the dispatcher. He leaves their jursidiction so she transfers me over to the new dispatcher in the next county... so the guy in the Stratus starts to really get on it... 100+ mph. So I drop back about 200 yards in case he wipes out. I tell the dispatcher that he is now doing over 100 mph and the dispatcher asks if I can back off and still keep up from a distance without jepordizing safety... yea I said. What kind of car are you in he asked? A 2000 NSX... Nice he said, don't think this one will be out running you. About 5 minutes later we pass two Sherrif cars waiting for us and they take off after the Stratus and pull him over. I headed to Waffle House.

This reminds me of the time when I was driving home with my family from the in-laws on Easter Sunday. There was a white Bronco that was all over the road, driving on the left shoulder and then on the right on 580 from SF to Pleasanton. I called 911 several times but they never showed up. Well, the guy happened to get off the freeway at my exit and we followed him to a local bar. I called 911 again and this time the local cops showed up and brought the guy out and put him in their cruiser. They asked me to identify him and place him under arrest. I had to go to court as a witness and when they heard that I had called 911 many times describing what we were seeing, they ended my testimonial pretty quickly. Although I don't know the exact outcome of the trial, I am sure the guy was convicted and I felt good that I had taken a drunk driver off the street that night and caused some pain in his life.

Wonder if 911 would have been dialed if it were a driver going 55 in a 65 at that time of night.

RESPECT!!!! This is a great story! You saved the day, nobody got hurt, and you did it in total STYLE... up to the part where you went to the waffle house. :D

Commited to memory. That is a priceless line; the sort of thing you'd say in a movie.

Good job!!!! I did the same thing a few years ago. It's great that there good people like ourselves who want to protect innocent people from possibly getting killed.

I am no saint, and I am sure that in the past I have driven home when I was borderline, etc. but I drive DEFENSiVELY... this guy was not only extreamly impaired skills wise but also driving very aggressively. That combination is dangerous to everyone and he needed to be taken off the street.

Great story!

I was driving home from work Friday, and some bozo SUV driver was coming up on my tail fast. I was driving the speed of traffic, about 8 miles over the speed limit - you go slower and you get people honking at you.

This guy was driving 20-30 miles over the limit, and passed me on the very narrow space to the very right of my right lane. I honked and was really ticked off.

The other drivers in traffic saw this bozo coming and tried to prevent him from rolling other people over, but no avail - he swept in and out of traffic, all to save maybe 2 seconds to make his turn to the left.

I wish I had a video camera on my car to record this bozo's driving and help the cops convict him of dangerous driving.

I am not saying what you did was right or wrong but do you think that by you following him might have provoked him to drive that way and speed more ? What if he thought you were trying to race him and was playing with him. Maybe if you left him be and just called it in he would of just gone home after passing you. Reminds me of an episode of cops where they chase people. They dont start driving wild till they think there going to get caught. Thank god no one got hurt but if someone did what would you do if they felt you were responsible for creating a situation where he felt he needed to get away and crashed and killed someone. Just food for thought.

I think he already demonstrated recklessness when he passed him on shoulder.

I don't think he even really noticed that I was following him... I wasn't on his tail, in fact I laid back quite a bit in case he bit it so I wouldn't run over parts of his car flying off and ruin my front lip.

His speed varied greatly from 45 to about 120 and back again... so he wasn't trying to outrun me. Like that was even possible. No, this guy was just simply wasted and couldn't control his speed or driving. Had he put the cruise control on 65 and just concentrated on steering (as well as not passing on the shoulder) then maybe he would have made it home without being noticed. However, driving drunk and aggressively tends to stick out at 2am.

Almost the same scenario happened to me on Friday.

My friend and I were headed back from the casino and we were almost home on busy street in town. This Saturn Ion Redline pulls up next to me trying to instigate me to race (mind you it was about 9pm and traffic was still pretty heavy). For 7 lights (about 5 miles) he kept pulling next to me telling me to race him and stepping on it with all three lanes on the street filled with cars ahead of us. He is weaving in and out of traffic and almost hits me twice. It was this Mexican teen, probably 19 and his friend with dealer plates still on. They went next to every car trying to race as well. Anyways, at the next light, there are 2 sherrifs and my friend yells out the window that there is a stupid A$$ trying to race everyone on the street, the officer asks who and my friend tells him the Sh!ty blue Saturn behind him. The cop pulls to the next lane, gets behind the Saturn, and the rest is history. I'll give that guy 1 month before his Saturn is destroyed by stupidity.
