Current cost of short gear swap?

I'm still looking for car to replace my old 91 Sebring Silver (which had the short gears and 4.23R&P) which I really liked the feel especially around town in 2nd gear.

Has anyone done the short gear swap recently and have some cost numbers to share? Looks like the gears might be around $1k and the R&P around $1.2k. What would be a good number for labor by qualified non-dealer? Would I save labor if I was doing clutch at same time?

Trying to decide if it just makes more sense to go with a NA2 at this point?

Thanks.

Keith

If you go for the shorties/4.23 the car will have even shorter and nicer gear ratios than a NA2. The prices are about right and looking at the clutch is recommended once the gearbox is out. Depending on the mileage looking at other gearbox internals is recommended too. I don't know about labor costs in the US, maybe 1-1.5k?
