I hope this is not a repost. President Obama has been in the office for almost 3/4 of a year so at this point i think we should all have an opinion about what he does/says.

Him or his policies? I'd enjoy dinner with the guy. I separate the man and his politics to a certain extent, even as a President.

I have to say that while I don't agree with his politics and I don't care much for his "style", I have serious issue with the way that parents protested the K-12 address and won't allow the president to send an encouraging (even if not intellectually honest) message to the kids of America. The American people "voted" and everyone wanted "hope" and "change". Now everyone can "hope" they are able to pay their mortgage with the "change" that is left in their 401k accounts. I just think that alienating the youth of America in grades K-5 and 6-8 sends the wrong message to the next generation of Americans. I may not like our president or what he has in store for all of us, but he is the President of the United States and I will respect that even if I do not support it.

G-Man,

Keep in mind that Pres Obama altered his school speech in response to the criticism. I could very well see why some parents opposed the original plan (lesson plans, writing letters) and thought it was almost indoctrination.

BTW, the speech he wound up giving was fine.

Also, go back and Google when Bush tried a school event and read the RATH he received from the Dems and parents. An interesting comparison.

Now, regarding this poll...

Why is it that poll questions are all too often so ambiguous? Do I like President Obama? What a strange and odd question. I mean, really, how many people here know Pres Obama personally in order to offer an opinion?

I will assume the intent of the poll question was to ask about his policies and politics.

And in my case, the answer is no. I do not agree with the President's policies, plans or politics. I think he believes far too much in the federal government as a solution. He is spending way too much and he is spending on the wrong things.

One more thing...

Because I disagree with Pres Obama's politics and programs does not make me a racist. I really can't believe that now Jimmy Carter is now saying that racism is behind Joe Wilson's "You Lie" comment and other criticisms of Obama. And Carter doesn't really stand up and make a direct accusation, no, he sleazily implies racism.

So, now it appears that any criticism of Pres Obama will always come with the racist slander implication. Gee, how dare you criticize Pres Obama...you must be a racist.

Carter and the other Democrats who have made this sleazy slanderous comment will stoop to any measure to twist public opinion.

No wonder this country is so polarized.

The Americans have the rights to express their opinions that they don't like. Now, it does not mean that they are racists because we have the Black president. Remember in the 70's Vietnam War, they played down on Nixon. Were they racists?

As a person who grew up South Carolina and had a family member lynched (grandfather - looked and smiled at a white woman), I totally agree with Pres Carter. He didn't say all the people who disagree and dislike Pres Obama is racist but when you attack the man without substance well...it is what it is.

Many people here dislike Obama and his policies, but they make their point intelligently and they do discuss the issues. But out in right wing fringe land the plan has always been to attack and delegitimatize the man ..... he's not a citizen, he's just like Hitler, he's socialist even though he's continuing many of and spending money carrying out Bush' policies (TARP, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc)

White people don't like the racist charge they think its evil or something --- it not its a point of view. My mother is white and she doesn't like it when I make the charge against her. I guess since she had mixed children she thought that she doesn't qualify for the charge.

But I remember being told over and over when I was younger and bringing good grades she would say without any hesitation ......"oh that's because all of the white blood in you" and her favorite quote as I grew up .... "If you're white you're alright, if you brown hang around, and if you're black get back."

None of this has anything to do with hate ...... just a feeling and projection of superiority. This affected me growing up as I believed in this BS for a long time.

To this day she will still come out and say that she doesn't like dealing with black people and when I visit her I'll just look at my brother and sister when she says that. They know to keep their mouth closed --- but then they look almost completely white. I won't keep my mouth closed and we get into battles.......after all I do look mixed and I do take exception.

I don't dislike my mom for this, I love her, I speak out because I want her to change......because aside from that (and being bossy) she's about perfect....plus she 75 years old .......she grew up in this stuff. People think this crap happened hundreds of years ago.

This altitude of hers is very common in the south....and I know how she hides it in public and therefore I can pick it up in whites (who still feel that way) real easy. I can see the contempt in some white people's eye when a black person is in charge (or with a white woman) ...esp if they are dark skin...I even look for it so I can be prepared or make a mental of that person. I can also see that much of what I grew up with is changing and that contempt is not in many younger white people.

Here is another example of the problem with a black person I know. This guy has very dark skin and I have not seen him in around 16 years and the first thing out of his mouth .......Hey Chris you still got that "good hair".

When white people have the good hair and black people have the bad hair our whole society's culture is based on racism and until we talk about it fully it will never change. We will have some type of race war (and not just White vs Black) ...... as soon as times get tough enough (or someone is killed).....and who do you think is going to lose that really?

The push back you see from minorities esp blacks is fear....don't need slaves no more....and the hardcore white racist know that.

One more story......my father was black and native american and very very good looking ....this was the only way my grandmother would accepted him....plus my mom was not her favorite. My mother told me that she loved beautiful people. My aunt M (her favorite) on the other hand married a dark skinned black guy and when she did my grandmother cried for a week (what's funny is my uncle J is the whitest black man I know). This lady when I was a child with the effects of a stoke that prevented her from using her left arm would make me supper after school and I can still hear her shuffling and struggling to do it (when I close my eyes) ...even when I didn't want her to. She was racist, and she loved me, and she was a good person too.

That is some pretty heavy stuff. With that being said it really appears you are carrying around a chip on your shoulder. Just let it go. You aren't going to get any special treatment from anyone and just because some white guy did some messed up crap 10 years, 10 months, 10 days, 10 seconds ago... doesn't mean every white guy is out to get ya or is a racist.

I didn't necessarily take it as he had a chip on his shoulder as much as he was sharing life experience and his point of view. I actually thought it was interesting seeing life from someone else's point of view. It sucks that in this day and age that anyone has to feel the way he does.

Everyone should have to listen to the Black Eyed Peas song - One Tribe. If you haven't heard the song it's a pretty good one. As the song goes, "we are all one people" and the jist of the song is we (globally) need to just accept one another and live in peace and quit all the hating.

ATLANTA - Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst to President Barack Obama during a speech to Congress last week was an act "based on racism" and rooted in fears of a black president.

Yeah, Carter is way out of line with his comment. Without hesitation, he labels someone a racist because they accuse a politician of lying? That's not racism, it's just calling it like it is. Just because Carter was once President, he thinks it's okay to label someone a racist with no factual basis whatsoever. That kind of ignorance irritates me.

As a person who grew up South Carolina and had a family member lynched (grandfather - looked and smiled at a white woman), I totally agree with Pres Carter. I guess you're assuming Wilson "attacked" Obama "without substance." I think reasonable minds could differ on whether Obama has lied about his policies and intentions. That doesn't make the dissenting opinion a product of racism.

But that is just my point, everyone has it hard. Some people think their the only ones who have it hard. You and I talk about this all the time... how no matter what there will always be another obstacle to get over and that is what keeps us going. Others just don't want the obstacle to be there and if the obstacle is there they immediately become angry, disappointed, accusatory and think EVERYONE else put the obstacle there JUST to piss off this one person.

GROUP HUG!!!

Sometimes I think being the president is a shitty job. No matter what you do half the country will hate you. Anytime you try to pass policy half the senate and congress fights you. You are under a microscope all the time, no matter what goes wrong some people will blame you. Must suck to try to do good and half the people you do it for don't like you. Nevermind that you rarely get rest, and you can't get a simple BJ without the world knowing about it. The pay even isn't all that great, a lot of people make more money. I don't know if I'd want such a job.

It's pretty freaking unlikely that most people are capable of forming an opinion that is not based on media and special interest bullshit and a great big dose of self interest.

Most people lie about everything a president says, does, and means, both to themselves and everyone they talk to. Political discussions almost always eventually devolve into red faced people arguing over which one of them has the most virtuous whore.

To CPTNSX - I am very sorry for what happened to your family member. It is very sad and regrettable. No one deserves that type of treatment for their race and act of good gesture. Violence against African Americans or anyone else for pretty much any reason is unacceptable and unforgivable.

However,as far as the current political climate, to pin racism as a root is quite disingenious. Polls have found that race actually helped Obama more than it hurt. Republicans would be pissed at Obama's policies even if it was Hillary :).

While I could write a lot, if you look down, the biggest reason that people are pissed is because of the lack of transparency and the partisanship that Obama has partaken in when it comes to the Health Bill. The true cost has not been explained from the begining. The *fears* that quality will suffere has not been effectively addressed. The fear that our system will degrade in quality and have the same issues as Europe has not been addressed in a convincing matter. A culture of "spend, spend, spend" appears to be in Washington with no regard to what anyone else says.

Obama may say he's bipartisan, but he has very little history both in and before office of doing so. Everyone, including Republicans, want reform and have provided alternative proposals - but they have not been acknowledged (convincingly) by the PResidnet, Democrats or the media.

While the President has spoken on probably *each of these points*, the perception is what the problem is. No one knows whether the bill will increase quality, lower costs, and provided greater access, I don't, and I, alongwith many others, are not convinced otherwise.

...Now, what I do like and continue to respect about Obama is his seriousness to keep the country safe, not implementing a reckless policy in Iraq, keeping the pressure up on Afghanistan etc... This is the #1 most important job of the PResident, and 4-8 years from now, this is ultimately what Obama will be judged on. So, good job on that.

Poor job on pretty much anything else :)

Also - the Hitler, Joker equation is ridiculous. It reminds me of what some of the cray Libs did in the last decade. It always does and will continue to do disservice. It's also an insult to those that died under Hitler.

America, good luck!

Oh yeah, he hasn't taken gun rights away, yet. If he does that, his loss next election is gauranteed, and then you haven't seen anything yet from me :p
