I had many encounters with owners in nsx, but can't say it happen often, maybe 5-6 times in my year and qtr. ownerships...

I just came home as usual tonight I saw a pretty good looking Blk nsx, (aftermarket rims, lowered)... well, as usual I speed up to catch up on him and flash my light then pull along side, the guy didn't even bother to look at me at all, in case he didn't see me, we were along side for at least 4 miles, I even wave at him... (well, I've been the local nsx meet and I never met this guy). My wife called me being childish, she wouldn't notice another TL drivers when she drives (she had a TL-S), maybe this guy doesn't think nsx is all that......

She might have a point, cuz his car is kind of dirty, (it hasn't rain for 2 days already), thinking all that just make me more

Could be he was blind or maybe completely humiliated because his car was so dirty. Or maybe he thought you were going to kick his a$$. Probably just an anti-social jerk.

It's nothing like driving a TL of which there are tens of thousands on the road and you see 5 every time you head out. The NSX is a rare car, and I go out of my way to greet other NSX owners when I see them on the road or parked somewhere. In fact, my wife has even accused me of being a stalker because I often leave my business card with a message to email me on the window of any NSX that I see parked on the street :D

Sorry to hear about that bad experience. I thought I had seen some snobby/unfriendly post on prime recently... this was pretty bad though.

Maybe it was stolen and they were worried about getting in trouble? Maybe it was being borrowed by a non-NSX enthuiast.

I have seen maybe three nsxes on the road since I purchased mine in 2000... I have only run across one on the road while driving mine and it was a friendly experience... we both happen to be out in our NSXs a day before a local NSX drive... getting them ready for the drive. That was in the D.C. area. I have lived in D.C.; Hollywood, CA; Orlando, FL; Birmingham, AL; and Savannah, GA since I purchased the car. It seems like you are seeing a larger number of NSXs on the road so maybe you will have some better encounters sooner or later!

The only other thing I can think of is if he felt that you were trying to race him? I mean I was driving mine back from Nashville the other day and was in the left lane with the cruise set on 80mph passing a crotch rocket that was in the right lane. Once my nose got out in front of him he sped up to 80 and drove along side of me for a few seconds... then he downshifted and sped up to get back in front of me. It was dark but I waved to him while he was riding along my side as I though he was looking at the car. I ignored his invite to race though. Or was it him showing me how cool his bike was by speeding up? Not sure but I ignored it.

Of many encounters in 5 years, only one ignored me... all the others greeted/flashed/...

The one that ignored me saw me and looked at me like "what do you want?", with a very serious and snobby face: he looked about 30-33 and I was 26-27 at that time.

I could conclude that statistically only 5-7% of the NSX owners I met are assh0l@s ;) :D ...

Somebody please tell me why this is a "bad experience" just because the other NSXer did not wave back to you. Maybe he had a bad day? Maybe he is reclusive in nature? Maybe this or maybe that?

About three months ago, I saw another red NSX at an intersection and did not wave. Do I feel guilty? No. Am I obligated to wave every time I seen an NSX? No. This afternoon another NSX beeped his horn at me and I waved back. But I do not feel obligated to do a u-turn for a roadside chat. I used to, but not anymore. Life goes on and your priorities change. Maybe that other "unsocial" NSXer that NSXDreamer2 encountered is at that point in his life where the NSX is just another car. Cut him some slack, ok?

Am I being an ass right now? You decide. Point is that nowhere in the owner's manual does it say that a fellow NSX is obligated to acknowledge the driver of the same car.

Nomex is on.

If you saw that other Nsx on Kirkwood near westheimer, and you drive a red (pre 02) Nsx then that was me, and I live right across westheimer from you off Kirkwood.

From my standpoint, I didnt expect you to turn around, or stop and talk, but if you would have it would have been ok either way.

With the Nsx community being so small, Id like to think that theres some camaraderie between us. I think the problem with the original post, in which the poster had an encounter with another Nsx driver, is that the other nsx driver may have thought the poster wanted to race, when he was really just saying hi. His way of not racing was to ignore the poster perhaps.

Maybe we should have a secret signal to let others know we are nsxers. My Brother in Law is a member of this secret society and they have a signal to let others know that they are brothers.

Actually, I thought about doing a u-eee, but didn't for two reasons - I was just fresh off of a hard run to test for a boost leak and pooped my FTL as I powered around the corner just before I saw you.....and traffic at that light was such that you were long gone. However, with my superdoodle I probably could've caught up to you.

I don't think there is any obligation... but seriously... how hard is it or how much effort does it take to wave your hand or tap the horn when someone is excited to see a fellow nsxer or an NSX. It is not like you have jump up and down or turn around and follow them. Imagine saying hello to someone who you are excited to see as you are entering a social event... and they totally ignore you. It is not a pleasant experience. I think the NSX community has really changed drastically over the past few years.

Superdoodle ? Hrrm. (wonders what the superdoodle is)
Boost leak Eh ?

You must be talking about supercharger, which one do you have ?

I noticed you were taking off pretty hard when I saw you.

I was in Daytona Beach for Spring Break a few years ago walking down the sidewalk watching cars. I didn't have my NSX at the time due to mechanical issues.
Anyway, I just happen to see a red one all nice and fixed up and stop and try to talk with driver. I have my NSX hat on too. I tell him I like the sound of his exhaust and asked what kind it was. Said he didn't remember. I then told him I also have an NSX and was looking to upgrade my exhaust and kinda liked the sound of it. This whole thing lasted probably 30-45 seconds or so and he just totally blew me off like I was just some punk acting like I had one.
Funny thing, a few months down the road I'm at a party with nothing but other owners and see him again. I strike up conversation with him to find out where he lives. Sure enough, Daytona Beach.
I then ask if he stays there for Spring Break and he said he wouldn't miss it for anything.
He acted totally different knowing he was talking to a true owner this time. He obviously didn't recognize me but my wife and I sure did him.
People like him give us a bad wrap.

Actually, you may see TL's all the time, but somehow I never notice 'em. ;) It's just not a good comparison. There isn't a single person on the road that doesn't sneak a glance at the NSX.

Along those lines. You ever see two motocyclist pass each other and notice what they do. Probably 95% of the time they make some type of motion to each other like they are in a brotherhood. I just love that for some reason.

It is kind of the same way here in Indiana. Most of the other NSX's I see on the road (which are VERY few....maybe 2 per year) usually have drivers wo either do not notice another NSX, or just do not care. No big deal. Different strokes I guess. It is always nice when you do run across another NSX that waves back at you.

Yeah.....the Harley-Davidson rider flips off the rider of the crotch rocket.

From my days with the Porsche club it was standard to flash your lights at other Porsche's and/or wave. It was fun to acknowledge each other. The only problem I have now is remembering I don't have a Porsche anymore as I get strange looks from the Porsche's when I wave or flash my lights at them now.

Maybe he thought you were hitting on him...

I had the same experience in my S2000. I was a little miffed at the time. My wife thinks the other driver thought I was hitting on him.

That's kinda' funny.

I remember first encountering the wave in my MG back in 1969.
I get waves from Corvette and Honda owners all the time and wave back to anyone holding up more than one finger.

With my old front end i got waves from corvettes all the time, but not so much this last week i wonder if they notice the difference now, lol.

But the first day I had my car on the road i passed pbassjo on the way to my class, it was awesome to see another nsx the first day out since there arent many around here.
