Keeping cats off my car!?

My NSX lives in a well protected carport, not a garage. We have several cats and they like to jump on my NSX for some reason. I rarely witness them doing it - because if I did I'd probably create dis-incentive for them to do it again.

However I often see streaks of paw prints on the glass, the hatch and the trunk.

I don't want to cover the car because I drive it 2-3 times a week and I don't have the patience to cover and uncover often.

Any proven methods to keep cats away? I have seen a few electronic units that have positive reviews. And I have seen many chemical sprays but most of those are intended for interior use.

???

Dog.

There are 4 or 5 other threads on this, but searching will get you 300 on catalytic converters. Try a Scat Mat, mothballs, upside down carpet runner (has little points on the back), paintball gun, scatter mouse traps around car (be careful the next morning). Keep the cats in where they can't get run over or eaten & the problem will go away.

Got one! And she gets along just fine with the cats.....

Ouch. Good advice so far, but I think I would really go for the car cover. I know it's a pain, but it would give you good protection. Good luck.

I did search and found uncountable threads on catalytic converters as you said.

Our cats are outside cats so I have no real control over them. I would shoot them with a BB gun (when my daughter wasn't looking) if I knew I wouldn't hit the NSX.....but of course that wouldn't work. A paint gun would be similarly fun but messy.

Thanks for the suggestions....

Go out and pee on your car. I mean all over it, the hood, the top, the trunk, wheels. Have a couple of beers and then really give it a good coating of pee.

Let me know how it works for ya.

Crush up some aspirins in a can of Tuna fish you will not see that particular cat ever again:wink:

Just put the cover on. That's how I've been dealing with them this past year. Prior, I used to trap cats at the rate of 2-3 per week. You can usually get a permit at city hall.

Cat lovers will be getting really pissed about the responses here soon... I can feel it lol. Anyhow, dog owners are expected to keep their dog under control and not let them roam the streets if they care about their pet. I expect the same from cat owners. You never see cat owners who let their cats roam free out in their neighbor's yard scooping out the cat sh!t out of the flower beds or doing a full detail on the car that got walked on by their cat's rough sandy feet.

Hay guys, they are HIS cats.

Yup - my problem is with my family's cats, not strays. So the more severe proposals above don't work.

An electronic device called "Cat Stop" seems to work for many and it costs about $45. May try it....

In that case, let me rephrase my solution: bb gun, but only pump it twice.

I've never actually met anyone that had success with any of the electronic controls, for cats or other pests. I've been told that putting dog urine on the ground around the car will help (not quite sure how one collects dog urine :D ). I think that ultimately you either remove the cats (humanely of course) or cover the car. If you do try an electronic repellent and it works, let us know.

easy to get dog urine especially he already has a dog; go to your local pet store or wal mart, there are more than a few training / PP pad. in fact, I have many of those, and I will ship those to your door if you pay for shipping and handling fees. Those are in fact quite useful if you ever spill oil on the garage floor too.

Somebody mention cats? That problem is gone now. All I have to do is cover the rubbish bin and check no food is nearby. I had new bumper on and fixed the paint.

Now I have problem with some blind shoppers. I just had long scratch on my rear left fender from shopping trolley.
:frown:

Used an electric fencer in an attempt to stop my dog from marking my truck wheels and as a unexpected side benefit the cats stayed off also. But cats and dogs can "sense" electricity and after a few days of leaving it off line they would return.
