Wish me luck! It's no NSX; very different experience. I'm in the right mindframe to enjoy it. Great fun and cornering power. If a piece falls off, glue it back on :) I"ll be lurking in the shadows. Y'all be good now, ya here.

Cool car. I was looking at that exact color/etc. I ultimately ended up with the NSX...those cars look like a lot of fun to toss around.

awesome ride.... i sold the nsx to get into an elise about a year ago... and ended up picking up another nsx cause i couldn't get enough of EITHER cars.... and it seems like you got yours pre-wired with the lotus driving lights... awesome~!!!

Nice ride. Don't just be a lurker. Update us from time to time on this one.

Nice Lotus. I considered getting one but took it off my shopping list when I heard quite a few times that the cross country road trip would be a touch rough. Never got to actually drive one, but it HAS to be a blast!

Sweet color!! Definitely keep us updated as to the comparisons and how it handles.

congrad on your new toy. While this is everyone's favorite, it's not my cup of tea. I personaly think it is ugly.....

Why don't you tell him how you really feel?

I sat in one about a year ago, but did not drive it. The first thing I noticed is how tight everything is, and driving it would probably cause fatigue early in a long road trip.

Mike, good luck with the new ride, one of the guys on another forum that I particpate in has one too, he's crazy for it. He's also had a 430 among other cars, says that the Lotus is more fun to drive. He also got it from Greenwich Lotus (about 4 miles from my home, thanks for calling!!!) Enjoy it, great color!

Drove one today...wow! Very, very fun car to drive! Anyone who owns an NSX would appreciate it's honesty and purebred racing feel! It is like a go-kart in every way. No doubt. As long as you think of it as a go-kart with features, you'll love it.

You would reeally want to have both the NSX and the Elise. Totally different cars. The NSX feels like a Cadillac compared to it. I can totally imagine all the people who bought it thinking it was a roadster they could commute in. No wonder there are a lot of dissatisfied people. Seriously, this is a race car--few compromises.

Actually I was impressed with the suspension on even pavement. You don't feel every pebble but when you go over a steel plate or small pothole--BAM! Feels like a wood board under your butt. Thing had amazing grip. Like glue. And great high-speed (70+MPH) stability with grip.

The shifter is a little gatey and rattley but the clutch and gears are smooth. The power was good--(any NSX should beat it in a straight line) but not what I'd call "fast." Very smooth and linear power--and whoa!--the Toyota VTEC system is very pronounced! Really comes on strong at about 7K RPM. Rev limiter kicks in at 8,500.

Not easy to get in and out of--not at all. Coming from an NSX it kinda sucks. They made the door sills higher than they had too, IMO  so you really have to step waaay over them to get to the seat, and then literally swing your legs over them and pull yourself out.

Car is actually quite beautiful. Front end is very aggressive and the rear is very curvy. I'm thinking of buying one for some SCCA events here locally...some friends of mine might chip in.

As long as you think of it as a go-kart with features, you'll love it. You hit the nail on the head. It's not a real car. It's a toy, and I feel like a little kid with a new toy when I drive it.

I can totally imagine all the people who bought it thinking it was a roadster they could commute in. No wonder there are a lot of dissatisfied people. Seriously, this is a race car--few compromises. There are two suspension setups for the Elise; standard and sport pack. The Sport costs more and people and even dealers think of it as an upgrade, which it is not! The sport suspension is better suited for the track, not for the road. It is harsh and the oem tires don't last much longer than 3K miles. I observe that most of the very low mile used ones have the sport pack. I believe their owners realized they didn't want to live with it.. or maybe the whole car in general.

Actually I was impressed with the suspension on even pavement. You don't feel every pebble but when you go over a steel plate or small pothole--BAM! Feels like a wood board under your butt. Thing had amazing grip. Like glue. And great high-speed (70+MPH) stability with grip. My suspension is fine for where I drive it. You do learn to avoid potholes at all costs. I need to keep from being dangerous because I want to keep taking corners faster and faster, and I know there is a limit, and I don't want to be surprised and find out the hard way.

At low RPM it doesn't feel like it has the snap of the NSX. Most magazines rate 0-60 times at under 5 seconds; some as low as 4.5. The cam changover is very abrupt and feels and sounds like another engine kicked in. For the Elise to be fast, you have to keep the RPMs above 6500, and it screams like a sport bike.

Not easy to get in and out of--not at all. Coming from an NSX it kinda sucks. They made the door sills higher than they had too, IMO  so you really have to step waaay over them to get to the seat, and then literally swing your legs over them and pull yourself out. I guess that adds to the exotic allure. In another 10 years I probably won't be able to get in and out of it. :)

I'm really happy with it. I'm getting 33MPG just running back and forth to work, and I'm having fun doing it. I'm planning on keeping it for a while; maybe as long as I kept the NSX. I went into it with the mindset that it is what it is... and that is a fun toy, not a real car. It took the place of my sportbike and provides me with a lot of the feel that I rode the cycle for. Do I miss the NSX? Sure, but I couldn't have both and I'm happy that someone else is enjoying my baby now.

I thought it was Mermi who replied with the red font. Glad you enjoying the elise. I never been inside one but have seen one in real life. Very nice car indeed.

Congrats, nice car.

I was browsing the Lotus website the other day and read up on the car a little, as like some of you I too am interested in one. If anyone knows, what is the difference between the Elise and the Exige? Also, what other colors are available (the website said 20 different colors)?

Mike, would you say you got a good deal or a steal of a deal? How much can I expect to pay for the car?

I'd say I got a good deal. Mine is a left over 05. MSRP was 52K. I paid low 40's. 06's are about 2-3K off of list. You can find used ones from motivated sellers for around 36-38K. The exige is more of a track car. I don't think the top comes off, you can't see out of the back window, and its suspension is even harder. I wouldn't even try to make an exige a pleasure car fo the road, but that's just me.

MikeC, Very good description on the suspension... Good advice as well.

Thanks for your informative post!

Now, now Calvin. Remember what your mama told you. "If you can't say anything nice, bite your lip 'til it bleeds."
