hi guys --

OS Giken has released several new updates to their product line up for the NSX. The OS Giken produces a very unique differential which combines the advantage of a smooth engaging clutch type and the locking capacity of a gear type differential.

The OS Giken Differential
The advantage lies in OS Giken's patented locking mechanism. Under normal driving conditions, the differential acts as a normal clutch type differential smoothly transferring torque between the left and right wheels. In the instance that full throttle is applied, the locking mechanism engages the clutch packs to produce 100% locking condition in a smooth and consistent manner. The differential improves cornering performance by transferring torque to the inside tire to maximize traction as a normal differential operates, but can transfer far more torque to the inside wheel due to the locking mechanism. The OS Giken differential also improves aggressive wide open throttle straight line acceleration by keeping equal torque transfer to both rear tires - eliminating lateral pitching under acceleration. All this performance also comes with added durability from reduced heat generated by the clutch discs being fully engaged under locking conditions and the clutch discs larger surface area from OS Giken's forged miniaturized internal gears. Performance is consistent and the differential durability is increased.

Now - flexible final gear ratio options
OS Giken now offers two final drive gear ratio options. The factory NSX gear ratio is 4.06:1 and the factory NSX-R ratio is 4.23:1. The OS Giken offers the differential with a complete gear set (countershaft, ring gear, and oil gear) in a 4.44:1 ratio. This ratio is the perfect ratio for naturally aspirated NSX or mild forced induction use. Gear sets are available in both 5-spd and 6-spd configurations.

Newly released - OS Giken now offers the differential with a 4.06:1 ratio option including a 4.06:1 ring gear which is compatible with the factory standard countershaft and oil gear. This is the optimal setup for high torque forced induction cars.

What this means to you as the driver
The OS Giken differential dramatically changes how the NSX can be driven. Power can be applied sooner, and in greater amount during cornering increasing your corner and corner exit speed. It makes the NSX an even more formidable weapon on the track. For cars using the 4.44 final ratio - the acceleration is impressive making powering out of the hole a joy.

If you've been considering a 6-spd upgrade to your 91-95 NSX, this differential upgrade will achieve similar results with broader more usable gearings reducing the need for more gear changing.

New cam angles and pre-load make the OS Giken differential very streetable
The prior OS Giken differentials were only available with aggressive pre-load and cam configurations. Owners often complained about popping sounds from the rear of the car when making low speed turning (such as pulling into a parking spot). The differentials we now offer have a revised cam angle design and pre-load setting that does not cause this popping. The differential is smooth and quiet during part throttle and wide open throttle use. Other than the large performance increase - the differential is seamlessly integrated to the car.

No setup is required - the differential ships ready to install in either 5-spd or 6-spd transmissions. The 4.44 gear ratio also is compatible with the electronic power steering systems of 95+ NSX. No further modification of the car is required!

We currently have all models in stock - both 5-spd and 6-spd applications in either the 4.44 or 4.06 final drive ratios.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

regards,
-- Chris

We're offering the differentials at a discounted price for the month of October. We have all four models in stock (one of each). The pricing is:

$2080.00 - 5-spd or 6-spd with 4.06 final drive
$2650.00 - 5-spd or 6-spd with 4.44 final drive

take care,

How easy is this to install? Is it a DIY project?
Aslo,is it possible tojust get the 4.44 FDR without the diff?

Thanks

The differential is installed into the transmission (the NSX has a transaxle style transmission). The installation is not technically difficult but is not what I would consider a "DIY" project unless you are familiar with the process of removing and separating the transmission and gear stacks. Any competent mechanic should be able to handle this process.

We offer the installation on a core-exchange process, however, this may not be feasible as you are out of the country.

The 4.44 final gear is specific to the OS Giken differential since the mating flange on the differential case is different than stock.

cheers,
-- Chris
