NSX oem exhaust sound=Ferrari 328?

I had a Ferrari 308GTSi, the 328 predecessor, and I don't think so. But an NSX with a Tubi muffle is close.

I don't own one, so my opinion is worthless.

But, any chance anyone knows what exhaust I should get if I want my 97 nsx to sound something close to a F355/360?

I would agree with this 100%. When Tubi did the prototype fitment for the NSX exhaust on my car we went and ran it around and it sounded almost exactly like a Ferrari from the outside. I would recommend that their exhaust be the firt place you look if you want that sound and do not want to buy the whole Ferrari. ;)

Exactly what I am thinking . If you want a car look like a Ferrari, sound like a Ferrari, go buy a Ferrari. Doesn't matter how it sounds, it is a Ferrari.

I have a completely stock 308GTSi and my NSX is also completely stock as far as the engine/exhaust goes. My Ferrari's been down since before I got my NSX a few months ago (Ferrari reliability! :)), so I haven't done a side-by-side compairson yet.

Comparing the sound of my NSX to the memory of the sound of my 308, however, I'd say the Ferrari sounds a little better. Not by much, though. I think the main reason why I like the Ferrari sound more is because the exhaust note is much deeper and much louder. It's about the same in volume and tone as a quiet aftermarket exhaust, and it's enough to set off car alarms. (That's the stock exhaust and going through cats.)

I have to admit, though, that I was a little disappointed by the sound of my 308. Not only had I read so much about how cool-sounding Ferrari's were, but I'd heard a carburated 308 row through its gears at WOT long ago, and it was probably the most awesome-sounding car I'd ever heard at the time. The fuel-injected 308 and 328 don't sound anywhere near as awesome as a carburated 308 does.

My guess is an NSX with a good intake and exhaust will sound a little better than a stock 328.

Unfortunately, the NSX can never sound like a 355/360. In fact, I think the 355 is one of the sweetest sounding cars ever, especially with a Tubi. I have a friend with both and hearing his cars screaming at full throttle gives me goosebumps. They sound insane shrieking through a tunnel. I wish my NSX had even a third of the Ferraris aural excitement. :frown:

Then again, my NSX is only a third of the price of a 360 CS and probably even less to maintain. You get what you pay for.

Since when does the OEM NSX exhaust make any sound???

How does the Gruppe M compare to the RM Racing and Taitec lightweight? Unfortunately I have not been able to hear very many aftermarket systems? Thanks.

There is no comparsion. Gruppe M is by far the nicest sound exhaust for NSX imho. Not that the other 2 sounded bad. Gruppe M is just up another level.

RM/B&B are louder than Taitec GTLW (disappointing quiet to me after having it for a few weeks. I would like it to be louder up top in 5000~8000 range).

That sounds real aggressive. Is there much cabin resonance with the Gruppe M? Any chance you have an mpeg with the same car accelerating? I bet it sounds awesome with a load on the engine. Thanks.

No there is no cabin resonance with Gruppe M according to someone who had Gruppe M:

>There is no cabin drone and barely any exhaust note at cruising speed. The >distinctive tone comes on when you get on the paddle. The unmistakable >high pitched scream at 5k+ RPM is orgasmic. IMO, is the closest sound to a >Fcar that alot of people are looking for in a Tubi. (Tubi is also very nice, >ALOT easier to live with in terms of loudness compare to both above).

I wish, unfortunately I do not have one.

Here is a clip of RM/B&B:

I agree, I like the Gruppe M better.

that video is of my car last year..
just ask the other Prime members who've heard my car and it makes you want to dish out $2500 for it. Only problem is it requires you to go catless. The only other exhaust for the NSX I've heard that comes close to an F Car is the GT ONE F1 Sound which still uses cats( disclaimer I havent heard the Tubi bar in videos) the sound from that thing was crazy.

ceberus- in answering bout the drone AU NSX another sydney member has a Dali muffler and he says my drone is nothing compared to his setup. The Gruppe M has the usual 3K RPM NSX drone other than that its very sedate but when you give it some it's a different beast. I'm about to put on extractors so I'll post if there is a difference I'm hoping it becomes even more raspy and high pitched :)

This is very reminiscent of the question that always comes up on the Yamaha V-Star motorcycle boards... "what pipes make it sound like a Harley?"

I enjoy my Comptech SC + B&B Exhaust sound very very much and every time I go under an overpass at 8k rpm with VTEC screaming, I get goosebumps, but it will never sound like a tubi'd 355, nor should it.

I recently went on a drive with many cars including a tubi'd 355 and an NSX with cat-less Taitec exhaust. Both setups have their own unique sound and I think the foundation (our 3.2L engine) is a big part of that sound. Much like the Yamaha situation, there are dozens of different exhaust setups you can try, but they'll all sound like an NSX with different exhaust setups, IMHO. If you're looking for the sound of an italian V12 or V8, you can only come so close using the NSX as your platform.

Good luck! :)

P.S. Actually after reading further, this thread was originally asking if the OEM sounded like a 328. In that respect, I don't think it does. :)
