Sad to say, I sold my 1994 NSX (#49) back in the end of April. It was a great 3.5 years that I had her, but after watching the real estate market boom here in Southern California (25-30% growth) over the last few years, I decided it probably was better that I owned more property rather than a beautiful car.

Well, I wound selling the car, buying a place, (this is the funny part) and bought a Miata to replace the NSX. Becuase I didnt want to be without a "fun car". I wound up buying an old Miata figuring I would tinker with it, and have fun with that. Well.. 7 months later, I'm bored with it now. Hmmmm.. wonder why. Anyhow, becuase the market has done so well in the last few months, I have decided to jumpback in and get rid of the Miata and get a car with a little more umph. I was thinking about buying an NSX again, but decided to keep the money in the stock and real estate market for a few more years so Ill have enough for the new one. (fingers crossed) I figured the S2000 was the next best thing. Everyone who I have read talk about the S2000 has said its a baby NSX. I found a couple good deals on a few S2000 and I was wondering if anyone here has (or have had) both an NSX and an S2000?

I have read countless articles about people complaining about the torque on the cars, and that basically you have to really really wind them up before they start to perform. Is this really frustrating in day to day driving? Is it that bad? No one ever has complained about the handling, so I assume its on par or simliar to an NSX. is this true?

Thanks for the help.

The torque has been increased for the 2004 model. Not really an issue in day to day driving IMO.

I love the S2000 almost as much as the NSX.

in addition..

Oh.. I'm thinking of getting a 2002-2003. I figure if I can get it for 8K off the sticker price (7-15K miles on it) then Ill settle for the older one, besides, I hear they "softened" up the new 04's.

Aren't the price quite close between a 1991 NSX and a 2003 S2000?

Furthermore in 3 years the NSX will have about the same value, the S2000... not... :(

If you want a NSX again, do not settle for the S2000. Get the real thing! :D

I agree, get a NSX!!! :D :D

I have an '02 S2000 and '92 NSX, the S200 is more fun to drive because the NSX is an automatic. Yeah, I know, big mistake!
I think that there will be plenty of early S2000's available at significant discounts in the near future. I'd personally recommend an '02 at around $24 K as a better deal than a '00 at $20 K because of the solid glass rear window with defroster. The nuances of the two cars have been discussed ad nauseum on multiple previous threads but re your specific questions: You will not do smoky burnouts with the S2000 unless you dump the clutch at 5000 rpms, you will not intimidate pimply faced teens in mustangs but you will enjoy wonderful handling, crisp and precise steering, excellant brakes and excellant gas mileage wrapped
in a sexy, if somewhat understated package.

As far as price goes.. I think I can get a 03 with for under 25K. (under 7000 miles) Being that 00's are going for aroud 20-21K with 70K miles, I figure I can drive the S2000 trouble free for 50 K miles, with warrenty for 3 years and it will cost me about 4-5 in depreciation. I saw about 8K in depreciation with my NSX in the 3.5 years I owned it, so its about the same. But if I buy another NSX with say 60K miles on it. and put 50K miles on it, then the cost of ownership (repairs, maintence, tires) will eat into my "new NSX fund". and I doubt will hold its value as much as this particular S2000.

Thanks Jim and Tantheman,
When you are out on the track or driving some twisty canyon roads, does the S2000 inspire the same confidence as the NSX? I read that it doesnt have any DSC electronics, so does that come into play ever?

One should never rely on "traction control" computers to get out of trouble. For really experienced drivers, street traction control devices are actually a nuisance. I'm glad the S2000 has LSD and doesn't come with any traction control.

I think the S2000 feels decidedly lighter at track speeds (ie, triple-digits). I suppose it dosn't generate as much downforce. I think my NSX needs new shocks as the S2000 actually has less body roll on a recent track outing. Acceleration in the NSX is still far superior. I don't think the lack of DSC or LSD etc. is an issue. Take a driving school, I find I can drive the S2000 with much more confidence, can even get the tail out in a controlled manner.
I think a clean '03 with 7k for < $25,000 is a bargain, go for it!

I have a Honda/Acura garage and among the fleet have two NSX's and an S2000. The S2000 is like a go-kart (in a good way) and is a blast to drive. The complaints about torque are blown out of proportion. Driving it everyday is quite easy and fun. The NSX's are of course faster and more exotic looking, but the S2000 is a seriously entertaining car and is a full on convertible. I love my S2000 and cannot see ever selling it....or the NSX's. :D

I haven't got anything significant to contribute to this thread, but I just wanted to pay a compliment.

TO ALL YOU GUYZ WITH AN NSX + S2000 ...
I'd like to shake your hand. You've won the Gold and Silver medals. :D

I'd love this arrangement myself... NSX for me, S2000 for my wife (when i get one) ... then i can drive both. :D

stupid edit... meant to attach this.

I'm sure Blue Knight won't mind me posting this photo of his beautiful "samuari"-Blue NSX and Yellow S2000. Personally I think this is one of the sweeeetest NSX/S2000 pix I've got.

Owners of both cars have had numerous long discussions about this in the past.
