NSX-R in Australia??

Hello everybody.

I was wondering if anyone could help me? Did Honda Australia bring any NSX-R's into the country to sell at all, or where they only available in Japan?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, No, Technically-Yes and No.

Yes, there is at least one.
No, Honda didn't officially import it.
Technically-Yes they are only available in Japan (excluding UK which doesn't really count :p )

And No, I cannot give you the address or phone number of the NSX-R owner here in Australia. :D

They're not available in the UK, either. Honda UK had a couple for the motoring press.

Allegedly (ie: someone told me) they sold one to a guy but made him sign a disclaimer that
a) The car doesn't have a warranty of any kind
and
b) Honda UK won't support it (wrt parts etc).

The other one may be up for sale soon (so the same unverified source said).

But you can't buy one here.

You might be in luck.. search the web at www.drive.com.au. There's a 94 Red NSX-R w/ 19" Rims for sale at the Car Brokers in South Melbourne for $80K AUS! Do't know if it's auhentic or not though
Cheers,

Cheers,

I don't believe this is a real NSX-R... Power Steering, Radio Casette and Leather Seats!!! I don't think so!

Seems as if the rego plates say NSX-R and the dealer is either false advertising or doesn't know what he is talking about....

The ONLY NSX-R that I believe is in this country is a yellow one. A private import... (And I have not seen it it myself. It was in a magazine so I cannot confirm if it is a real one or not! That can only really be established by looking at the VIN)

I've seen the red NSX with the plates "NSX-R" parked in Camberwell about 2yrs ago. I checked it out close-up in person... the "Type-R" badge the owner put on the rear looked real legit. i assure you it's definitely no NSX Type-R.

But with that said, when I saw it, it was in perfect condition -- like it had just been detailed. You could see the owner REALLY looked after it. <IMG SRC="http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif">

If you want to import one, I'd suggest you go to Japan and choose one yourself then export. If you need this arranged, please let me know. You should never buy one over the phone/email, you'll probably end up with a dodgy one/no car at all.

There MUST to be a way of getting a Type-R into the country. All it takes is money and the right connections.

I guess what I meant was, freedom to import one for a reasonable price. If one had vast funds I'm sure it could be arranged.

I thought the original early NSX-R was a beautiful car, wouldn't it be nice to bring some into the country? Or how about a type S or S-zero? (Or the newer NSX-R, I guess, but my funds don't stretch that far!)

Have you seen the price of an NSX-R in Japan???

They are holding their re-sale value incredibly well. At around 10 million yen brand new... A 94 model Type-R is still fetching around 7 million yen!

So Andy, if you can't afford to buy an Australian delivered NSX in Australia.... Then you have no chance of being able to afford to buy an NSX-R IN JAPAN! Even if you lived there, and didn't have to pay for the shipping, import duty, GST etc...

Fair enough. I'm not really a car collector, so I guess I should just get a regular NSX and buy the type R go-fast parts for it

That I'm aware there is only one NSX-R in OZ .. I had a look at one 2 years ago in Melbourne and had a sit in one a 94 yellow with 60K asking $110K it had a few mods.. awesome car!

NSX's unfortunately aren't much cheaper in japan.. the cheap ones are exactly that. you get what you pay for..

So Honda never imported any, yet we aren't allowed to import any under personal imports, either. (Unless you owned it overseas >12 months)

How many do you want?

Modified nsx's are much cheaper in Japan than Australia, stock ones much more difficult. Plethora of automatic ones available here (eew)

NSX-R does hold it's price well here, unless you are dealer and check the dealer only auctions, prices are much more reasonable.

But really, do you really want a nsx-r? I personally don't think they are worth the money unless you are actually going to use it for competition. No a/c, no stereo. Horses for courses.
