</time>The NSX is just about to hit showrooms, and the Type-R version has been in the rumor mill for quite some time. A new report from Motoring.com.au claims that this hot NSX will debut in 2018.
<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block; height: 60px;" data-ad-client="ca-pub-4383386226399088" data-ad-slot="1951569910" data-ad-format="auto" data-adsbygoogle-status="done"><ins id="aswift_1_expand" style="display:inline-table;border:none;height:60px;margin:0;padding:0;position:relative;visibility:visible;width:632px;background-color:transparent"><ins id="aswift_1_anchor" style="display:block;border:none;height:60px;margin:0;padding:0;position:relative;visibility:visible;width:632px;background-color:transparent"></ins></ins></ins>The standard NSX will make use of a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 and Acura’s Sport Hybrid All-Wheel Drive to push the horsepower to around 550. While that all sounds well and good, the model that really gets my blood moving is this potential Type-R version.

Motoring.com.au claims that someone with knowledge on the NSX Type-R told them that this version will go north of 600 horsepower with its output.
Along with the added power, the source goes on to claim that the Type-R version will utilize more carbon fiber than the standard NSX, bringing its curb weight down to around 3,420 pounds. Motoring.com.au claims that some of the aluminum body panels and aerodynamic components would be the recipients of this lightweight material. That would represent a drop of 110 to 330 pounds, depending upon the final weight specs of the base NSX.
The added power and the significant weight loss should drop the NSX Type-R’s 0-to-60 sprint time to the three-second range.
No Type-R Honda or Acura would ever be complete without a suspension tune. The NSX Type- R is no exception. The source goes on to confirm that the NSX Type-R will use a more track-focused suspension system to deliver a more precise ride.
With the report claiming that the production version of the NSX Type-R will hit showrooms in 2018, look for it to start the auto show circuit in 2017.
