Rear Offset Question

Question for all wheel gurus: I really really really (yes, really) like the Prodrive GC-07C. I mean, stock looking, forged, and light weight - what's not to like.
They are really hard to find and dont come up for sale very often on prime. There is a person selling a set with the following specs: 17x7.5+35 and 18x9.5+15.
I am concerned about the rear fittment. I know the NSX can accept some really wide rims, but is the +15 too aggressive? How much camber would you have to run? And how does it affect tire wear?

Thanks in advance!

+15 some have done but you will need to be super low and run a ton of camber. Not something I'd recommend since it'll poke out past the fender most likely.

But some have done it. There are some examples of extreme offset rears on here and I think hapa may chime in with his pictures.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what you're doing and this is exactly what you want.

Create a "want to buy" thread for what you want and there is a very high chance that someone will contact you sooner than you think. I once waited almost a year to see if a set of Downforce NSX-R seats would come up for sale and nothing happened, I created a WTB thread and someone emailed me after just a week ;) Good luck!

Here are the rear fitment, 18x9.5+15 with 265/35-18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport. You can run 255/35-18 to be safe.

flexthatdx: thank you so much for those pics!!! If you dont mind me asking:

1. What kind of drop do you have? And with which setup (ex. bilsteins, teins, KW's, etc. etc.)
2. What are you camber settings?
3. About how many miles are you getting from the rears?
4. What is the specs for your front setup? 17x7.5? +44 offset? or +35 offset?
5. Does your rear bumper/panel pick up more "rock chips" or dirt?

THANKS SO MUCH!

I wouldn't recommend the fitment, personally, as it doesn't match the conservative fronts. Also, keep in mind that the +15 offset is mostly outside the fender. Below is a 19x9.5 +23 on Eibach springs with as close to OEM alignment as possible, so you can expect a +15 to be 8mm further out than that.

acura_NA2 dont be scared to run a more aggressive offset in the rear. I'm currently running an 18x10 +22 rear wheel with a 275/35 tire with no issues on a conservative drop; bilstein + OEM spring on the lower perch (lowers the car 7/8"). It looks about the same as what flexthatdx posted:

acura_NA2,

1. I am lowered with one finger gap all around. I have the BC Racing w/swift spring setup.
2. I am not sure of my camber settings.
3. I haven't gone thru the rear yet so I am not sure how many miles. It also depends on the tires you get.
4. Front spec is 17x7.5+35
5. The back quarter panel and rear valance always pics up dirt, rocks, water, etc. but have not seen any rock chips or scratches. But since being lowered and cambered, I notice that the tire only makes contact with 3/4 of the inner portion of the tires.

this may be blasphemy, but would you guys ever considering milling wheels to increase offset? Don't manufacturer's do this regularly? (ie make one size and cut as needed)

thanks for all the responses so far. A related question - would running a 18 x 8.5" + 32 wheel in the rear be ok (same wheels, the Prodrive GC-07C)? I seem to have read somewhere that a 9'' width wheel was preferable, but arent the 1994-2001 wheels 8.5" (17x8.5)in the rear as well? Also, with a 18 x 8.5'' +32 wheel, it looks like it would just retract the wheel 1mm (when compared to the ideal setup of 18 x 9.5 +44)

I wouldn't put an 8.5 rear wheel on unless you want a 7" front and a 205.

Flex, Hapa, Jose - how much REAR CAMBER are you guys running? Happa does not look like he's running near enough, and adding camber will tuck the tire under the fender much better.

The tire tucks in with the suspension compression.

^What size rear tire are you running and what's the static rear camber? I don't doubt it tucks due to the car's camber gain, it just does not look like enough static for good handling.

Hey stuntman, I do not know what my rear camber settings are. I would assume it is around negative 2.5-3.0

I don't actually know. Daren at West End never gave me his alignment specs. I told him to align it for predominantly street with the occasional (~4 times a year) HPDE. I believe the camber is as close to stock as the almost 2" drop will allow for the factory adjustments.
Hope that answers your question.

IIRC, the factory rear camber is -1.5* +/- 0.5*. So that's a -1.0* to -2.0* range and yours looks like -1.25* which I would not recommend for someone who drives spiritedly or does HPDE events. I'd suggest around or slightly more than -2*.

You know it's been a while since I've had it done, I'll be sure to visit Darren again soon. Thanks for the input!
