Just wondering with what you guys are using to shave with..

I went from the Mach 3 to the Fusion 5 but I found the blades were only good for about 4-5 shaves but me being cheap I would use the blades for like 14 times...

I always wanted to go in to a barber shop and get a "straight" shave from them but always have crazy visions of them slashing my jug....

So after some searching on shaving forums. I decided to get a DE Merkur Futur and about 40 Feather replacement blades since they were cheap and regarded as one of the best blades out there

I threw all caution to wind as a better start off would have been the Merkue Heavy Classic..

After 4 uses, I have to say the learning curve is steep. I cut myself badly on the first use and I am still cutting myself but its getting better. The shave is incredibly smooth but takes me alot longer to shave compared to my Fusion5

I hate shaving. I use an electric. It doesn't cut as close as a razor so my 5 o'clock shadow hits by lunch time.

For a traditional razor, nothing has worked better for me than the Mach 3.

The Schick Quattro was less than impressive.

*edit* I too - hate shaving.

I shave my face and head everyday so I'm very accustomed to the blades ..LOL

I use the Fusion but I change the blade yearly and I hate new blade week as the first two days always mean cuts:mad:

Don't hate shaving at all as I love having everything all nice and smooth. Plus I hate that itchy head feeling when I don't shave for a couple of days.

I've been using the Gillette twin blade disposable for ten years. I get a good week or so out of each one and they don't slaughter me.

I like gillette sensor excel used them for years, tried other brands but keep coming back to the sensor excel. I haven't tried the fusion yet, have a free one just sitting there though, maybe when I travel I will try it out.

Been using a badger hair brush, pre-shave oil, shaving cream, and after shave lotion from www.eshave.com. I have fairly sensitive skin and the combination of eshave products and technique seemed to have cured it. They certainly aren't inexpensive but I no longer disdain shaving altogether...as much. ;)

One thing that helps immeasurably is changing out the blade frequently.

Gillette Fusion Power, which gives me at least 2-3 weeks before I need to change out the cartridge. Yep, the blades are expensive but I find I get a much better shave with the Fusion than I did with my previous Excel.

I've also started using a shaving cream that my wife bought from The Art of Shaving (www.theartofshaving.com). It's fairly expensive at $22, but lasts a long time so is worth it. A good badger hair brush is a necessity. The prices on their website are somewhat over the top, but the quality of this shaving cream is top notch. I find that I get much better shaves with this than I do when I use something like Barbasol.

I use this stuff from Trader Joes. It's a moisturizing cream shave made from Honey Mango with Aloe Vera and vitamin E. It's only $3.99 but works great! and like you said better than barbasol ..LOL

I use this.... I can't deal with blades for facial shaves and this is about the closest I've come to something that shaves almost as smoothly

PS, could swear we had a topic about this already......

I'm Asian and don't really need to shave to much. With that said the M3 does it's job just nicely.

I'll have to check it out. It'll save me an hour's drive to the mall in Natick MA which has the closest Art of Shaving store. The Sandalwood shaving cream I'm using is pretty awesome though, and my first jar has lasted well over three months. I'll probably get at least another month out of it, so even at $22 it's not that bad a deal.

I pluck the whiskers out with a clam shell old school style. :D

Seriously, My BIL got a straight razor shave at the barber years ago and the guy massacred his face. I still remember it to this day. I was laughing my ass off so bad I lost my breath. I picked on him for the rest of the day. I bet he had a good 15-20 cuts on his face.

Been loving the Fusion for awhile and I got a badger brush and shave soap for Christmas... it's a world of difference compared to shaving gel.
WAY better.

I hate shaving, but have found that Mach 3 and Edge shave gel (not the foam/cream) work best for me. The super trick for me is that I shave during the morning shower. The steam plus washing my face helps soften my beard, so the bladework is much easier. Plus, cleanup is just a rinse. I will not shave at a sink unless there is no other choice.

Some people use a heated mirror in the shower, but I'm used to shaving without. My face hasn't changed much in the last 20 years, so I'm used to just shaving by feel.

I used a Mach3 for YEARS, but recently switched to the 5 blade fusion.
I like it better, but the blades don't seem to last long at all, and I too am cheap and will use the blades far past when I should.

One thing I have a problem with is I can't get a close shave. If I don't shave on a sunday the monday shave is perfect(close), but other than that I can't get as close as I want.

I need to try an oldschool setup...

Ding ding ding...shaving in the shower has saved my face and a ton of time. After burning through several electric razors, a good old fashioned blade is the only thing that works for me. I usually get 4-6 weeks out of my Gillette Fusion blades. I use Arbonne shaving cream and think it works great!

OT- The Arbonne exfoliating scrub is the ONLY thing that gets my hands clean the first time, every time. No joke! And I'm usually very dirty because of my profession. Back to work...

Like a lot of things in life, much of a good shave involves prep. Don't shave as soon as you get up. Shaving in the shower is ideal (although I don't do it). Try getting a decent Badger hair brush and a good shaving cream that will lift the hair up. Apply the shaving cream against the grain and use a good blade (I use a Mach 3). If you have a problem spot, try stretching the skin but don't apply any more pressure to the razor itself.

I have sensitive skin and used to get bad razor burn almost every time I shaved. Changed the products and my technique and haven't had razor burn since (that was 3 years ago).

I can't emphasize the importance of a good pre-shave oil and a decent badger hair brush.

merkur long handle HD

feather blades

proraso shaving cream (the menthol tingle is awesome)

I have a few different aftershave scents depending on my mood

classic shaving ftw

keep it up though, I've been doing it for about 3 months now and I'll never go back, the first few weeks can be frustrating though
