So I replaced my fuel pump and...

so I replaced my fuel pump and it seems to be pretty good so far...

got new brake pads too so I'm still breaking those in!

I had the tech inspect the fuel lines and he said they seemed fine and didn't need to be replaced - they weren't brittle or anything so I guess i'm good!

One thing that has been resolved is the issue where the idle would drop too low after coming to a stop and taking it out of gear. It doesn't do that anymore!:biggrin:

I forgot to replace my spark plugs as I haven't done that in a while... that will have to wait till next time...

Not to resurrect an old thread, but I have to replace... 17707-SL0-A31 HOSE, FUEL JOINT Does it require removing the fuel tank? Any way to do it from inside cabin rear access? Thanks.

Yes it requires removing the fuel tank. From the opening near the coolant reservoir, you can see the area where the pipe bolts to the tank, but no way to get hands or tools in there to do it.

Thanks. Now I'm contemplating ordering OEM line, or taking mine to a local industrial hose company that specializes in all types of high pressure hose lines and fittings. I wonder if they can remake them for me in polyurethane or something that will last longer.

Does any one know what is the difference between this two fuel pump? 17040-SL0-A30 and 17040-SL0-A31

A30
is listed for the 1992 model year.

My fuel pump is fine but I am not sure if it is time to change. Car has 104k miles 1992.

The parts reference lists 17040-SL0-A31 for the 2002-2005 NSX. A30 covers the 1991 - 2001 models. That part is the complete 'set', not just the pump. If you want just a pump (which would be less than $100) you can order the OEM Denso pump. However, the Denso pump is on back order with no expected availability date like a lot of other Denso stuff. Don't go looking for a Denso rebuilt starter or alternator for your NSX because they don't exist.

Thanks for the info. So I assume the pump for the part number 17040-SL0-A30 and 17040-SL0-A31 have the same pump but might have different mounting? or brackets? never taken one apart so I don't know. If this is the case, I should get which ever is cheaper assume I cannot find the denso part. What is the Denso part number?

I think I found the Part number (Denso-951-0011) , seems like Amazon still have some https://www.amazon.com/Denso-951-0011-Fuel-Pump/dp/B000C5WFS8

Denso 951-0011 is the listed pump for the 1991 - 2005 NSX. If you are planning for a pump change it would probably be a good idea to have a replacement inlet strainer on hand (in my experience they tend to disintegrate on removal) and a replacement seal for the tank. The tank seal definitely changed during the production run which may reflect the different 'set' numbers from Honda. Rock Auto has those parts.

Don't substitute regular fuel hose for the fuel hose that is submerged in the fuel tank. The outside jackets on modern barrier fuel hoses can turn to goo when submerged in gasoline. The fuel line in the tank needs to be rated for immersion in gasoline and costs about 3-4 times that of regular fuel hose. Hopefully the stub that appears to be shipped with the Denso pump is all you need and is the correct type of hose.

I used the Denso 951-0011 in my fuel tank refresh. It is just the pump unit itself, so you need to order a new sock, fuel hose and clamps from Honda. I believe the Honda "pump" is actually the entire pump/chassis assembly. Removing and installing the pump into the chassis does involve some fiddly wiring work- just take your time and make 100% sure not to damage the wiring connections and restore them exactly as removed. I even made sure to orient the wires exactly the same as they came out.

Great info. I might just wait for Denso to have it in stock, I feel more comfortable using the hose from Denso since I cannot differentiate the submerge type.

Look like Denso make their own strainer:

Did you also order sock and tank seal from Honda also?

Found it:

It's been a few years since I ordered the parts. I think the hose/clamps may have come with the pump. I definitely ordered the tank seal and sock from Honda.

Be aware that Denso is showing no expected delivery dates for when the parts may be back in stock. After I ordered my Denso pump from Rock Auto they deleted it from the product list which is an ominous sign.

If you go to Denso's parts page they list different part numbers for the tank seals for the early cars versus the later cars. If you check the Acura parts web site they list a different tank seal for the 1991 - 1995 cars and the 1996+ cars. I am not sure what is up with the Rock Auto listing - you could check to see if it cross lists to the early or late Acura part number.

I believe that the Denso pump comes with the necessary clamps and hose stub. My pump is supposed to arrive next week. If you want to wait I can confirm the contents of the package after it arrives.

Does anyone know the difference between part #s 17040-SL0-A30 and 17040-SL0-L30? They look like the same fitment, but not sure if L30 replaces A30?

Regardless, it seems like both parts are on national backorder at the moment...

Nice work David! Might I also recommend an injector douche from RC. They give you some pretty neat documentation on flow rates before and after the douche. http://www.rceng.com/Fuel-Injector-Cleaning-P43C0.aspx

All 6 of mine are with them as we speak.
We may consider this when we start working on my buddy's new NSX next week. Got to finish installing the bumper and winch from 4Wheelonline before we can clear the garage.

I got mine from Tim Polinak ,17040-SL0-L30 , before all this covid stuff . Its the complete fuel pump set , problem ended up not being the fuel pump but that's whole different story ,just glad that i changed it (be aware of any after market add extras )

Do you mind explaining what your problem was? I'm about to order a pump and want to explore all the options before I have to drop the tank.

Are you sure about that part #? Amayama seems to have 17040-SL0-931?

You are correct. Amayama probably has the RHD part. OEMAcuraParts confirms 17040-SL0-L30. I should have checked both before posting. I'm surprised the fuel pump is different. They didn't flip the engine around. Anyway, mea culpa.
