So, what is Honda fan suppose to drive now?

Hi Ken,
Nice to hear from you. Just came back driving a coworker's brand new 2009 Porsche C4S. Absolutely stunning car with tremendous power and crazy traction. He said 385 hps and you can feel every single ponies. Very tightly built and solid. I actually like its look too with a traditional red reflector at the rear. I won't want one because of the sheer number on the road.
My short list has R8, Ford GT and F430. Waiting for WDC and Apple to come back up!
Steve

I absolutely love my C4S. It gets a lot of attention too. Best car I have ever owned. And I just ordered some new shoes for it as well. The Potenza RE-11's I can't wait to test them out on the open road.

Honda is no longer the same company.

sad but true :(

its no longer the good old dedicated to quality cars, motorsport and sports cars company. i think this happened due to many reasons, the main reason is ownership structure, its a shareholding company, and share holders want to make money, and company managers want to please the shareholders, and the Honda die hard fans got who remained faithful and loyal bitterley dissapointed. but the company's management have other priorities to care about.

if Mr. Honda (Soichiro) was still there... he would'nt have allowed this to happen to Honda. i feel that the latest management (ala Fukui) ruined alot of great things done by the great founder.

all we can do as Honda fans, either we live in the past and enjoy the pure sports cars Honda made, or we move on to another brand...

After a few NSXs, I myself will jump ship to something else a few years later hoping that the economy will improve a little.
Steve

And when you do you have to let me know so that I can scoop up that white coupe of yours! LOL! Seriously!

I had Prelude, Civic Si, S2000, and I was hoping my next upgrade will be the new NSX. But since this is no longer possible, what am I suppose to upgrade to? Honda, give me an option!

,,.. and a true OPEN WHEELED Honda!! what a nice find!

Enjoy the NSX and keep it running in good shape. If you get bored or want a change of pace/feel, grab an S2000 and enjoy that too. Until the market improves, we're not going to see any new sport models from Honda. :frown: Although I suppose with a little work, the Civic Si could be fun...

Well we can rewind the clock and buy one of these from Japan.

Tokyo, September 19, 1997 --- Honda Motor Co., Ltd. introduced today a new motorsport vehicle, the "Side-by-Side." It combines the advantages of two- and four-wheel vehicles to create a new kind of motorsport category.
The Side-by-Side was developed both as a tool to improve driver skills and serve as a new entry category for Japanese motorsport activities. Built for exclusive use on closed circuits, this single seater formula car is powered by a narrow V-twin motorcycle engine located on the driver's right hand side.

This new type of motorsports vehicle offers the responsiveness of a formula car in a unique design package. The name "Side-by-Side" comes from the location of the power unit which is neither front nor rear, but rather on the side next to the driver's seat. Thanks to a very low polar moment inertia and near perfect weight balance, the Side-by-Side boasts outstanding slide-controllability. Its easy to handle power and size, combined with high tire performance, open the door of formula car driving to the general public. Safety has naturally been the object of much attention with the Side-by-Side providing safety standards similar to that of FJ1600, the next formula category up.

This new Side-by-Side formula car will be made available for circuit practice and driving school purposes starting this October in Twin Ring Motegi.

Honda Side-by-Side
Side-by-Side Technical Overview

Handling stability
By locating the engine on the driver's right hand side, all inertial masses are concentrated near the center of gravity. A very low polar moment of 32.1 kgms2 is thus achieved, with the neutral steer line1 almost over-lapping with the center of gravity for superior turn in performance. Slide control is thus much easier thanks to a reduced tendency to sudden change from under-steering to oversteering behavior. From short to international circuits, this Side-by-Side promises much driving fun.
1 The neutral steer line is the line over which cornering forces do not translate into either understeer or oversteer.

Engine
The Side-by-Side is powered by the narrow V-twin engine used in the XRV750 Africa Twin motorcycle. This compact, lightweight engine was chosen for its narrow dimensions, allowing it to be located on the driver's right hand side.

Drivetrain
The 5-speed sequential transmission is another carry-over component from the XRV750 Africa Twin. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via chain drive with a simple change of the driven sprocket allowing the tailoring of gear ratios to circuit characteristics.

Safety
The Side-by-Side was developed to provide the same driver protection as in the FJ1600 category thus allowing anyone to enjoy safe circuit driving. In case of an accident, the car is designed to allow for prompt driver extraction and rescue.

Akira, so you were going to jump from a S2000 to a 150K nsx replacement? .. ... why just don't get an NSX 97+ and call the day,

because a 97 NSX sucks now. It's 2009 for goodness sakes. Whats the point in driving an "old" supercar that isn't really old enough to be really old, but can be spanked by car's half the price you'd pay for one?

It's like buying a Ferrari 348 and posing like you're really driving something. It's too new to be in the "classic" categorey, but performance and looks wise, it's not worth the price.

It's kind of ironic that the 348 was actually Honda's target for the NSX now that I think about it. Wow, since then we've seen the 355, 360, 430, and now a new car is about to bow in another year. Honda is pathetic.

Obviously you dont own a NSX (and definately not a supercharged version). You drive a S2000 and a 1997 NSX sucks? C'mon dude, you are obviously flaming and have no idea what you are talking about.

+ 2 hahahahah ....

dude "nastinupe1" @ any car board like Mustang boards -per example -people LOVE to say NSX's are slow, this and that-, and UNLESS the Mustang is heavily modified, there's no match ... just b/c some NSX owners don't "race" in the street, it doesn't mean NSX's are slow ...

C5 Z06's C6 Z06's and base C6's are faster, anything above that "kind " of car is faster, and I can count them with my fingers + they are $$$$$$$$

Upgrade to the "old" NSX. It's still an awesome car, despite being a few years old...

Err..

The comment that you are replying to is from nastiupe1 and not from the OP. nastiupe1 owns a C4S and not a s2k.

No need to flame the OP for nastiupe1's comments.

BTW: A well prepped S2K can run head to head with a NSX even one with a Supercharger.

That being said, the OP's comments are very valid. There is no upgrade path for a Honda enthusiast. And that is what many long time NSX/Honda owners have been pointing out for a very long time now.

If you want to buy a brand new Honda/Acura off the lot that is up to par with the performance of the competition (sport cars) you have a total of ZERO vehicles to choose from currently.

You can take a NSX and mod the hell out of it and make it competitive in some ways, but it will never ever be a "new" car that you can buy off the dealer lot with all the associated benefits and drawbacks that comes along with it.
