still love my nsx, but............

Me three - one of the best short writes on this subject I have ever read!

Aw, shucks (looks sheepishly down at shoes, hands in pockets . . . .)

Thanks for the kind words in the last few posts.

Curious about your SC NSX. Have you taken it to the drag track? I wonder why you say a GT3 would "smoke" your NSX. My Turbo NSX puts out 400 rwhp and ran mid 12's at 118 mph. According to a car magazine the GT3 does 11.9sec 1/4 mile at 119.4 mph. I would not consider that smoking my Turbo NSX.

Here is link to Porsche article.

Most Porsches actually are pretty reliable. Do some research and you will see they last quite well. I don't know about the stiff clutch issue since most NSX cars have aftermarket clutches so that all depends on what you compare it to.

A Porsche C2 is pretty standard but a Turbo is hard to find and a GT3 is even more special. I drove a stock 997 GT3 (not RS) and it was naturally aspirated and had a nice clutch and it was everything I would wish for in a new car. 0-60 in 4.4 seconds plus the gearing is great. I have a Supercharged NSX with nearly 400whp and that would still get smoked by a new GT3. People talk about doing a Turbo like is a simple procedure but it is anything but that. If you want something above 400whp than you need to open the engine block up and replace the internals. That can run between $5k-8k just in parts. Sleeving the block, rods, pistons, and Billet Crank are big bucks. Half of that you probably don't need depending on your power wishes. However, then you will likely need to upgrade your suspension and brakes to match the power to do it right. The car has to be balanced to work right. By that time you might as well just buy a GTR or used GT3 Porsche that is ready to go. That is what I learned after spending so much money on the NSX already. The NSX is a good car in stock form but to match today's supercars you will need to spend quite a bit to make the car what it needs to be with suspension, brakes and engine. I have priced it out and know that first hand.

NSX nor Porsche are "drag" cars (unless you're 17 years old). At the end of 1320 ft., a GT3 pilot is still sipping his latte. On a road course or twisty mountain pass, a GT3 would smoke, chew up & spit out your/my/most NSX.

Skidpad - NSX 0.91 to 0.93g's
GT3 1.0 to 1.03g's

From your article on the 911:

Acceleration Comments: Difficult to achieve perfect launch with this much power and grip. Fortunately, the GT3 has a nearly indestructible clutch. It demands deliberate shifts and doesn't care about being beaten on during acceleration testing.

and...

Acceleration Comments: Holy crap! This is fast. And the amazing part? It could easily be faster. A surface with more grip would allow the PDK to hold 1st and 2nd gears longer and likely yield quicker times. Here, it just upshifts immediately when it senses wheelspin. PDK is, again, amazing. Launch control produced the best run.

Different cars do different things well. A 1/4 drag is not really what any true sports car is setup for. It can be fun to take the car to see what it can do in a straight line, and what you can do as far as launching it, but that is about it. I really would not put too much stock in 1/4 mile times.

The NSX was ahead of its time, is exotic, has a great seating position and steering feel and made in low numbers. It will always be known for that, and should be enjoyed because of that. I know that is why I want one.

I purchased my Z06 before the NSX because I wanted performance, and it IS the best bang for the buck. I was wiling to live with the fact that there were a lot of normal vettes running around, and its interior not being completely covered with leather (with can be corrected). It will destroy that GT3 in a straight line, and beats it around a track too. When I get my NSX to compliment the Z06 I will enjoy it for what it is and not try and compare it to other cars. That would be my best advice to anyone thinking of selling their NSX. Don't do it! No other car can give you the exotic status, seating position and steering feel as the price an NSX can.
