yeah kind of personal
it is meaningless
because of the thousand plus hours I have spent on her.
ok so here is the real story, recently after 29 yrs my wife divorced me. I live at my shop. so that allowed me to, in between the 100 plus days I am out of town a year on business travel to focus on this car.
I think parts wise I have including the car about 22. grand in it. I should have just bought one. But I do like my hobbies.
If I were asked to do something like this for someone. hmm ,well it would bet pretty damn expensive. But after driving the car, having women hang out of the window of other cars and people on the street say Oh shit what a cool car. It is all worth it.

red, white and blue.........god bless america =)

Kudos to you for your build man....that takes a lot time and patience.
At least you did something positive for yourself.

Good lord - I can not believe this rebuild. This has to go down in the anals of NSX history as one of one - never to be repeated again. I am overwhelmed at the perseverance and determination you have shown here. Ross at STMPO is a good man! I tell you this should be a video too bad you didn't have a set in there with cameras and action !!!

Amazing - I am also impressed by the front trunk area which actually looked very clean? Did you replace all the parts up there? The ABS etc.?

The engine that you took out - were there no parts you could salvage - like cams, crank, pistons and rods - surely, right?, Obviously the flywheel had rusted but I would have thought that there would be valves and internals that were still good?

Anyway - you are the man to take this on. One final question series- would you do this again? Was it worth it? Do you have more in this than could ever be justified? I'm just curious if you care to share -what this kind of thing costed you - I mean from buying this "heap" -to the rebuild? Just curious. I see rebuilds and restoration projects documented often in Excellence Magazine (all Porsche) but there is usually no one willing to talk cost - although lately some have. Would you be willing to share that?

Thanks for this awesome post - you should get an award from NSX/Honda. Have you let them know you did something like this - I bet they'd like to hear.

Most impresive- a big hand to you Joe. Thanks again for sharing all this!

you said you re-did the leather? where do you get the skins from Leatherseats.com? just curious, I need to redo mine soon.

and did you get a chance to send me the sample of the black wrap from your shop?

Thank you.
cost? ho ho ho. car plus parts 22 grand, labor, lets guess, maybe 500 hours in reality. at pennies per hour. ?
well Hell yes I will do it again. I love these projects.
I just do not know yet what my next one is. I think I am going to pull the drivetrain out of my 90 240sx. , ( converted it to a RB26DETT Skyline AWD) and put it into an S15.
Oh yes, I did replace everything in the car. all electronics, brakes, pedals, wire harnesses, ABS, SRS, Door componenents, seat belts. interior, except the dash structure, but instruments yes, seats - recovered. and on and on. Steering, column, heater box, ac box, condensors, the rear bumper , and front bumper are original, but I am working on finding a front bumper for her. this one is cracked in numerous places and I have fixed it a couple of times now. So want one that is not fd up.

For right now I am enjoying the Blue Pearl.

I bought the seat covers from a member who had gotten them from Leatherseats.com and let them sit around, then they had a funky red stain on them. Well I took care of the stain, and did the job, it took about 8 hours to recover the seats. A hint,. do not bother the the hog rings. just cut them, use High quality small cable ties. Very fast easy and not special tools required.

Your sample got here from the manufacturer while I was in Louisville, and then at a funeral However it is matte black not the pearl black, so I have requested the send one out directly to you in the black pearl.

Why didn't you paint the door jams?

Well Joe,

It sounds like you have a car that you'd have a hard time recouping the money you've put into it back out because of a salvage title, although I have no idea what kind of a price you could put on this. So I guess what I'm asking is that does this make "money" sense to take on a project like this?

Still no matter how you cut it - you have done a fantastic job with a project that for most would be impossible. My hat is off to you SIR! To think you did this in 500 hours - is just amazing. Most would have taken twice or three times that long. I really find it hard to believe that a single individual could do this! You are really something - and your product is cool.

Any more info on the wrap and the colors available? How easy is it to apply? Can this be done without any special tools?

I've been thinking about wrapping a car in a mate/satin black or white. This would be a great alternative to color fades!

go to www.flxpaint.com, they have a lot of colors, Glossy, matte, pearls and metal flakes, it is on 3M comply so it applies like any wrap.

AMAZING BUILD!

Realistically, what could one expect to pay to have someone do an entire nsx in the wrap? I have been toying with the idea of doing the whole car in matte black?

to wrap an NSX and do it right 5-6 grand. the car has to be disassembled to do it correctly.
The color is Belo Blue Ultra Matte

hey I got your sample today.

did you send me Berlina black or Black Pearl? it looks like balck pearl

If you can get Berlina Black I will take enough to cover my rear upper bumper.

let me know this shit is amazing.

looks like real paint.

and its a sticker that peels off.

Guys check out that link ask for a sample and you will see how cool it is

What an awesome post. And I commend you on a fabulous job. The vehicle turned out to be beautiful!

I lived in MS during Katrina : I was far enough inland that the storm was TS 1 strength by the time it hit us but it still knocked out power to my area for 9 days, no water for 4 (try that in the summer when temps are 90+ daily w/that much humidity too... yuck). The number of cars that were deluged in New Orleans was unbelievable & I was wondering how long before I spotted an NSX 'survivor'.

Great job on restoring this beauty
