Upgrade from na1 to na2 brackets for super cheap

I noticed alot of nsx owners upgrading to larger na2 brackets and rotors. The brackets and rotors for a 2nd gen acura tl and or cl are the same. Rotors are the same thickness and diameter and both na1 and na2 calipers are a direct bolt on to my 03 cl. There's plenty of info on this on acirazine.....I saw where a pair of brackets sold for over 200 on here and that's not necessary when I can get new ones for the to or cl 99-03 models for around 50 a pair or much less at a junkyard. Thought I'd share.

Interesting. I have a 2nd gen TL S, would the rear rotors with the drum parking brake fit the nsx? Or just the front rotors, brackets and calipers?

I only have tried the front. Pretty sure the rears would need custom brackets because of the e brake setup being different. I DID however read to use the brake hardware from the car you got the bracket off of even though I don't see it being necessary....so putting the nsx caliper on my 2nd gen cl involved me using the cl bracket, cl brake hardware kit, cl pads, with the nsx caliper. Pads don't matter however usually the same pad is cheaper for a tl/cl than nsx which is why I went that rought.

Putting cl or to calipers on would be a huge downgrade being single piston, the rotors warp so easily with stock to or cl calipers thus the reason I upgraded.....legend type 2 dual piston calipers are a direct bolt on to the brackets too....the piston sizes are 40mm and 38 vs 40mm and 36mm for NA1 NSX cars and 40mm and 34mm for NA2 models (except the nsx r which used the 91-96 40mm 36mm piston caliper. From personal experience the legend type 2 dual piston calipers are very good at stopping but will fade and overheat very quickly if tracking the car or even getting on it on some twistys.

I've only tried the fronts and the calipers that will interchange between na1 na2 nsx and 2nd gen tl or cl cars are either the 91-96 nsx 40mm 36mm ones, the 97-05 40mm 34mm, the legend type 2 dual piston calipers, and the 2nd gen tl or cl single piston calipers which would be a major downgrade on an NSX. I warped a pair of rotors every 5k with the stock cl setup and switched to legend type 2 calipers and the issue was solved however the legend caliper although larger piston sizes of 40mm and 38mm overheat quickly and will fade even aggressivly driving around some twisty roads.

Is there a cost savings of boring a pair of 2G TL/CL rotors (assuming 64.1 mm to 70.1 mm) versus just buying NA2 rotors (even non-OEM from eg. RockAuto)? Is the offset/backspace of these rotors the same?

I highly doubt there is a cost savings......a pair for my cl costs anywhere from 60-300 dollars depend on brand quality etc......I haven't ever looked into the offset.

Have not seen this up close, but 99% sure the answer is no. It is a completely different set of dimensions.

I am with you. Since I own an 02 TL-s, I would like to pull my discs off and see just how close they are to the NSX. The mini drum brake portion just takes up space. I know that the spare tires are not interchangeable. I want to say the 2nd generation spare will not fit on the NSX, it bottoms out on the caliper.

I confirmed it. Bolted the nsx calipers and brackets right up to my cls6mt knuckle. The acura tl 2nd gen 99-03 brackets and 01-03 acura cl 2nd gen caliper brackets are identical to NA2 nsx ones and can be had for for around 40 a pair off amazon new. Don't pay the NSX tax.

Are you refering to the rear or front or both?

Had the brakes apart on my NA1 lastnight and realized the front left caliper bracket had a crack in it. After hours of searching for a single bracket for the car I decided to upgrade now rather than wait. This is already going to save me a ton of cash and headache finding a SL0 part. So to be 100% it looks like the "Cardone" brand 141416 is the most common and supercheap.

Looks like this is the one, doesn't seem like a very common swap.

Thanks for the bump on this, didn't know it was a thing. I'm assuming to fit the 97-05 rotors/calipers you would need to upgrade from the fat 5s?

Has anyone figured out a replacement bracket for the rear to fit na2 rotors using na1 calipers?

This is to get a larger rear rotor while keeping the larger rear caliper piston?

It seems to be about a 7% increase in area between the two rotors 282 vs 302mm, 2mm thickness increase is likely marginal in terms of cooling. Is it even worth doing?

hi,

this thread has me interested about the NA2 fitment on an 2G TL.

does anyone have experience with using the rear 99-03 TL/CL caliper brackets on their NA2?

thanks to this forum's great discussion, i think the added surface area of the NA2 would be a nice upgrade since it appears spoon (nor NISSIN) make aftermarket rears.

anyone?

i understand that the NSX has a piston-based e-brake, so i would have to take that into account, but this is another reason i am asking about whether the rear caliper will bolt right up
Probably not too many (if any) NSX owners running TL brakes out there at this point. There was a guy about 10 years ago that was experimenting with the TL front calipers, but not the rears. That's probably why no one has responded.

i am more curious about whether the TL/CL bracket will work with the rear NA2 caliper, or if small modifications could be made to make it fit.

this discussion seemed to be focused around the front bracket. i have the legend 2 piston calipers, which bolted right up but required me to switch L to R (and vice versa).

really, if i could get either the S2000 or NSX rear caliper to fit on my car, even with slight modifications to the bracket, i am hoping adding the e-brake wire to the caliper wouldn't be much more work.

i was ideally hoping that the NA2 or S2000 rear caliper would bolt on, but apparently since my rotors have drums for the parking brake, it's not a simple process ;(
