What happened to the "hottest girl" thread?

1) Somebody posted something inappropriate.
2) Too many copyrighted/linked pictures and someone threatened lawsuit.
3) Someone posted something that violated some sort of privacy law.
4) It was getting dangerously close to exceeding the number of views as the NSX NICK thread and we all know that simply can't happen.

My bet is #2.

My guess:

5. More trouble than it was worth. Source of more reported posts than any other thread. Generally inconsistent with the image NSXPrime would like to project.

Lud is very tolerent and patient with things but human nature is what it is and that thread was indeed becoming more of a logistics/privacy problem...

It has become an increasingly common source of people posting content inappropriate for this site. I moved it (and some other similar but less active threads) to a holding area while I decide whether I want to try police such threads more closely or simply not have them on the site to begin with.

How about making the Off Topic section exclusive to only those members who are contributing members (financially) to the site and keeping it in their. This will restrict access to "guests" and limit the access to off topic to those who financially support the site.

Since the NSX site has a goal to remain free access for the general public, that still keeps that honor, while "off topic" remains exclusive to those who donate and want to participate in threads/discussions to things OFF TOPIC from the NSX. :)

Just my 2 cents.

Or just building off of this idea, why not have an "exclusive" section for VIP memebers where there is a lot more freedom to push the limits of what wouldn't normally be acceptable in a public forum. VIP status could be by invite only, members with a certain post count, tenure on the forums, maybe members who contribute a certain amount of money to Prime, or some combination of the above. You (Lud) can set the metric of your own choosing and that way it may actually encourage people to donate, stay in line, be helpful etc. in order to gain/keep their VIP status. You could also use dropping VIP status as lesser pre-punishment rather than suspension or banning.

Personally I would love an exclusive section where broader discussions and larger flame wars can be hashed out among a few select people that have proven themselves in this community.

That's never going to happen.

Beat me to the punch. :) You want to look at hot girls? Plenty of places on the internet for that, and some don't even charge you money. By contrast, this is a car forum.

I really don't care about the hot girl thread. Mainly I'm interested in having a section where some members have a lot more freedom to have deeper more controversial thread discussions. A section where politics and religion can be discussed. One of the great things about Prime is that many of the members are quite intelligent, yet have completely different viewpoints on the same topics. Part of the problem is that being an open forum these conversations are either:

1) Censored because it is open to the public and could offend.
2) Censored to avoid offending the most easily offended.
3) Open to trolls, immature, and generally stupid people/comments.
4) Censored to maintain a certain public image of the forum.
5) Censored because the conversation gets too heated.
Etc.

The point of a private thread section is that regular people who can and want to discuss these things can do so in a section where it is understood that things can and will get someone heated. But hopefully the members will be ones that have proven themselves that they aren't just there to pick a fight, be a jerk or just vying for attention. In that way, while members can disagree and get quite heated, there is overall a mutual respect that is understood, which is absent in a completely public forum. People can discuss politics or drag racing kill stories, and not ruffle the feathers of people who do want to hear about these things.

This can be done quite easily and contrary to popular belief, it will require very little moderation. Mostly because it is an privileged, but more importantly VOLUNTARY, section, if at any time someone is upset or bothered by the content, they may remove their VIP status and just relegate themselves back to the public forums. Additionally I think it would reward long time members who have contributed a lot of time and knowledge to betterment of this forum, as well as those who have donated money to the site as well. Right now the only perk a donor gets is a larger mailbox and an acknowledgement by their user name. I think VIP section could potentially be a very valued reward based on the quality members who I think would frequent that board.

I completely agree and would enjoy something like this.

Just as well that it has been removed as spent probably too much time looking at that thread, I guess... Consequenses are... back to work and getting something done! Ha! (But really enjoyed it while it lasted!)

I can't believe the most popular thread on this site ever is now gone.

Have you made a final decision?
