Where are all the Production deliveries ??

I had not heard about the gas tank thing at all so no idea if that replacement is on the horizon.

The thermostat solution has been kind fuzzy.

They have had a revised one for quite a while, but only ordered a small number of them (this is not recent info) to do replacements on an as needed basis.

was this info ever given to you for your updates?

Gas tanks, thermostat, and 3rd taillight issues don't concern me much since they can be fixed, but a constantly-squeaking dash is a dealbreaker. Or, is there a fix for that yet that doesn't involve tearing out the dash?

My understanding is the dash issue is for the cars with the CF interior package (I do not have this). The fix is adding some foam under the CF binnacle above the gauges.

I have an electrical gremlin when unlocking and opening doors.

I unlock both doors, then open the passenger door first and sometimes I can’t get the drivers door open. Acts like it’s still locked. Locking / unlocking with the fob doesn’t help. I have to reach across inside and pull the drivers door handle to open it. Sometimes pushing the unlock button on the drivers door will work, sometimes not.

And sometimes the drivers door window will do the auto-drop thing and it won’t go up to close. Once I opened the door again and it dropped another 1/4” so open about 1/2”, and no up.

Anyone else?

OWNERS

There is an NSX recall.

I don't know all the details but what I've learned is as follows:

1) There is a potential fuel leak between the two fuel tanks so ALL NSX fuel tanks will be replaced.

2) There is a safety concern about the third taillight failing causing a hazard so ALL third taillights will be replaced

3) ALL thermostats up to serial # TBA will be replaced. Serial number is TBA as Honda has yet to determine when the supplier of defective thermostats corrected their problem.

4) In Canada, Honda is setting up regional centers and bringing all cars to these centers to be repaired by employees from the Ohio factory. At the same time any issues sent to Honda about other issues with Canadian NSX's will be dealt with then. For example my appointment is for Oct 1 (my choice of date). My car is to be dropped off at my dealership. Honda will move it the a repair center nearby and do the three items above plus some issues that I advised them about on our forum list.

5) I expect Honda USA and Europe will do something similar. Clearly the USA repair is a massive undertaking and the logistics are challenging.

6) Clearly these items have been under scrutiny at Honda for some time. Our efforts at bringing attention to our owners issues did not precipitate the recall, However I think the details contained in our submission plus comments made to Sergio and Lee by Jason and others helped bring more pressure to bear on the taillight and thermostat issue.

7) The benefit to us of all this is each of our cars is going to get a complete factory re-inspection by some of the employees who built it. And all these major and minor items we've had trouble with will be dealt with.

8) I can only imagine the angst at Honda over the past while as they dealt with NSX quality/manufacturing issues, safety recall items, failing sales, discounting prices and so on. It is a tribute to senior Honda executives that they are biting the bullet and doing this major work. It will be costing them an absolute fortune and major loss of face.

9) As far as the affect of all this on the value of our cars, I don't see much effect. Honda is making a statement that no matter what goes wrong with an NSX they will stand behind it an fix it. Can't ask for more than that.

Does anyone have a diagram of the gas tanks? Wondering what has to come off or out to replace them.
My 360C had duel tanks and thinking the motor would have to come out to replace them.

I couldn’t resist. But who here will actually buy an orange car with a robin egg blue interior? I love the new orange color but the new interior color, wow. How do you pair the two? How does blue go with orange?

Blue/Orange is a Ford GT color :)

Some follow up

The 3rd brake light repair includes a lamp with an improved connector and will take 2 hours. 6 cars had the issue.

The gas tanks work will take 9 hours. Unclear if it will require dropping the engine. Body panels do not have to be removed. There will be at least 2 different forms of the repair (I am not able to share details).

Most folks having the gas tanks work will get a new thermostat. Not considered a recall so not mentioned in the external communications.

Info will be going out to dealers this week. The recall stuff to the public was apparently required to be distributed first.

Other stuff. 36 2019s ordered, only 7 are customer cars.

The track based test drives care continuing. Juan Pablo Montoya gave some great rides and some terrible tire life was seen (fun for the passengers).

One guy went to 3 events and finally bought a car.

Cement was removed from the PMC and another person (improvement) took his place. The lady designer left the company.

I’m glad to see Honda standing behind their product. Don’t hear much about Ferrari, Lambo, or McLaren doing this stuff publicly.

“Cement”? Who’s that?

Thanks... sounds like local dealers will do the repairs? Interesting if so compared to Canada where apparently factory folks will do it. Why the difference?

Do you know the fuse that blows if shorted out? Will replacing it get the car started and moving, minus the third brake light? I’ll look through the manual to see if fuses are identified.

And I haven’t seen any stop driving and park it comments. What is Acura saying?

Edit: Fuses are listed but not obvious which one.

Question: why are the recalls limited to US and Canada market. Are european cars not affected? Can’t believe that this is the case, same production line and used hardware. Can you ask the specialist regarding this?

I'm going to respond to the recall later than sooner.... I don't want to be the first one that gets done...... Hoping if I'm the 5th or 6th one, maybe the techs will have learned the tricks of the trade.....!

I have no info on why the work in Canada will be conducted differently.

The fuse blows due to a short from a bad connection to the third brake light. I doubt replacing the fuse will be a real fix. Maybe it gets the car started from a stranded location.

Acura has not said to stop driving the cars.

Going early may be a better option but I can't share why.

I reached out to my local dealer about the details on the repair work itself.

He needs to do some digging and asking and will get back to me.

I will ask about this during my next chat.

In the past he hasn't received any intel on Europe.

I can just picture the staff meeting when all this was decided upon. SHEEPISH ENGINEER: "Well, sir, we've had a series of pretty serious problems and we're going to have to recall all the NSX's we've sold to do some costly repairs. The financial impact is $x, and we can't gauge the negative impact on the brand." GRUMPY EXECUTIVE: "What the hell?! We spend how much on a new factory, training, engineering, design, quality control, and you're telling me we have to recall every single car we've built?!" INTERN: "Well, at least we hardly sold any."

The recall doesn't bother me or affect my trust with the nsx. Nothing has broken on me so being proactive is a + in my book. Go ahead and buy a lambo, mac, ferrari. I have to have an entire spare car/backup plan owning those. Only brand of sports car I have total trust is in my prior porsche cars but I see about a dozen a day just driving 10 minutes

My service rep got back to me.

Plan on 3-5 days in the shop.

No engine drop, etc.

They will replace both fuel tanks and the connector.

He confirmed the thermostat will be done at the same time.

He already has his first one in for the project.

I will drop mine off next Friday.

I am scheduled for October, parts are on order.

Plus the NSX specialist is becoming a dad.

I was in no rush but my service advisor seemed to be encouraging me to get it done and over with sooner than later.

I will get my winter wheels on while it is there so no extra trip to the dealership.

Hey Heavymetals,
I always forget the nsx specialist's name in torrance but I assume that's where you are going? Did you reach out to them or did someone call you?
