Where to install start button?

Reading through everything, I have a few outstanding questions that I'm hopig to get answers to. This should help me (and anyone else) looking to do this.

1. What is the part # on the Honda S2000 Start Button so that I can just buy a new one.

2. Just to confirm, THIS is the automotive relay coming up from the HOW-TO on the installation. That is the correct one right?

3. Does anyone have a photo or diagram that shows the pinouts on the s2000 button? I know there are 5, but which one is which, the original HOW-TO post the poster states the photos where lost. Hoping someone can assist and fill this gap.

4. Reviewing the DIAGRAM, I'm assuming the gold posts on the automotive relay would be 85, 86, 87.. where exactly is 30?

35881-S2A-911 Cheapest one I found was : http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-NEW-HON...rt-Button-Genuine-/230699252410#ht_2175wt_952

I just wanted to add that if anyone does this and uses a hole saw, be sure to run it in reverse after the pilot hole is drilled. This will keep the bit from walking and screwing up your console. Also, put tape down and drill through that.
I removed my shift boot before drilling. Drilling in the car is not something i would recommend.

i read somewhere, the 3 pins you want are the pins 3,4,5, from the LEFT,with the wording "start engine" on the front of the button, right side up so you can read it. (so the pin 5 from the left is directly behind the first "E" on ENGINE" on the front of the button.

Greetings Everyone,
I recommend buying a simple universal kit with all the "...3,4,5 pins " pre-wired already from factory. The S2000 button kit is needlessly complicated & costs 3x more.
Here is an example of a simple pre-wired universal kit around $20:

The cost difference between $20 and $60 doesn't matter, I'd prefer something that has a OEM look to it, and the S2000 button just looks classier than the off-brand eBay stuff.

It can't be to complex, several people have already done this using the same button, so I simply need to duplicate exactly what they did.

Greetings HIJACKER,
The point I was trying to convey is that simplicity is a virtue. For something which costs more, it should be easier to install. But not in this situation.

The simple off-brand device on ebay fulfills everything that I need, simplicity and coolness. It's simple because it's a plug and play. It's cool because the "engine start" letters lights up once powered. Most stock ones do not light up.

Initially, I was thinking of inserting my BMW push button into the NSX just like this guy:

http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=222624

But after some research, I realized you still need to mess around with the BMW "pins". Also, it looks pretty generic with the "Start engine" engraved on the chrome ring.

As far as looking classier.... that's personal preference and subjective just like the BMW owner who wants to avoid the red S2000 design. To me, they all are similar. Plastic button with chrome ring with engraved letters. It's the off brand one that is unique with the lights, simpler to install and costs less. What's up is down. Just my opinion.

Greetings nsxotic911,
Here's mine located behind the shifter where the Motorola phone buttons used to be.

I watched your youtube clip. I have a questions, what's up with the little knob you turned? Do you have to have that with that particular button? I do light how that button lights up though. Would look awesome illuminating red in my car.

Greetings Sublyminal,
The little knob is a Raytheon Aircraft dial switch used in lieu of a key to start the car. I re-configured the entire ignition system harness so that I do not even need to insert a key before pushing the stater button. I simply dial the switch and push the button to crank up the motor. I'll post some extra pics or maybe another video showing more details later in the week.
The S2000 push button kit you buy or any off brand is just a button with wires which you connect to the car starter wire. You still need to insert a key to Ignition II then push start the motor. The switch dial ignition and push button is my own DIY project because I could not find a simple true keyless starting system which does not require a key.

Ahhhhhh....I see. Thanks. I'm going to do one of those within the next couple weeks. Only the button though.

Thanks

So, How did you get around the steering wheel lock?

I used the Advanced key option....

Looks great.
Would love to get more input on this: pros, cons, ease of installation, regrets???

Sure, The device works Great! The start function uses the Tach to determine if the car is running so you just have to touch the button once, and if you foot is on the brake the car starts. to turn it off you press the brake and the start button again..

The button also allows you to press it once, without your foot on the brake, to turn on the accessories, press it a gain to put the car in the on position. press it a 3rd time to turn it off again.

Cons: Our cars have a pin in the steering column that locks the steering wheel. you have to either remove the pin or leave a key in the ignition to bypass the steering lock. I chose to do the latter, but the key doesn't function for anything except to keep the steering wheel unlocked so I covered the ignition switch with leather.

It was pretty straght forward to install, I had a service manual to find the best places to tap wires and such. the two units that control the starter and the door locks are small so they where easy to hide.

So far I have no regrets. except I might have installed the start button in a different place on the console like the coin tray location.

One last point, this system is a push to start and Keyless entry system. it uses a RFID to lock/unlock the doors and detmine if the person in the car is authorized to start the vehicle. It also acts as a security system.

So, How did you get around the steering wheel lock?

I didn't. I did what you did. Removing the pin lock is too much of a hassle and complicated. So I cut in half a cheap key made from a blank at Home depot, reinserted the key into the ignition slot and cover up with a round brass grommet cover.

Thank you for the follow up answers.

Basically, you won't ever need to touch the ignition again right?

Is it possible to install the push START button OVER the original ignition to cover it up?

Correct, you have no reason to touch the ignition again.

to put the PTS button where the ignition is would be difficult since it is a few 1-2 inches deep. and there isn't room.

My 02 I bought in Aug of 2011 came with this push button start installed in place of the ignition key. The unit is RFID and so far works perfectly. As you walk up to the car with the key in your pocket it unlocks the doors. As you walk away it automatically locks them.

Once your in the car with the clutch down and foot on the brake you can press the start button and vrmm.... Looks great and works just as great.

The existing ignition is tucked inside the dash the previous owner told me. It has a key in the ignition broken off. I wonder if someday this will be a problem but not something I worry about.

I think this adds a nice touch and can easily be returned to factory if needed.

See pics.

I was going to put mine right there. I test fitted it and it fit impeccably. Nice job on yours. I love it! I still will end up doing it that way when I get bored with the way I have it now I'm sure lol.

This is one of the best keyless start buttons & spot to put it i've seen for an NSX. Who is the manufacturer & how much? (if you can find out from the previous owner, i would greatly appreciate that)

I have this one installed in my 02 NSX. It came with the car when I purchased it in Aug 2011. So far it works great and have not had any issues.
