Who else is getting beat by the economy?!

Not yet, but I'm about to. I work on commission that is loosely based on new construction. Ever see Resident Evil Extinction? Their vision of Vegas isn't too far off right about now.

Is it really that bad in Vegas? How are the casinos doing?

If this is a UFC match, I'm on the bottom with a big bloody head, nose and mouth. Trying to defend myself and looking at the clock hoping to be safed by the bell. If I win this match, I am still badly beaten. LOL...Btw... I'm a R.E Broker.

It's done, I have put a hold on a few investments, a stimulas package is an excellent indicator of financial troubles headed our way. IMO just hovering below a depression in 3-6 months. Excellent time to acquire property bad time to buy Gold.

I think I'm the only one here NOT hit my the economy... I'm hit by something else.

The pending ACTOR STRIKE. Which none of you probably know about yet... but since June, the Actor's Union (SAG) has been "threatening" to go on strike and NOBODY wants to film any movies/tv shows because they could go on strike at any time (its been worse than the Writer's Strike of last winter).

Apparently there are a ton of projects just waiting for the actors situation to be over with... so when the actors (not really the actors.,. they don't want to strike.. only the president of the union wants to strike, and Mel Gibson) settle this.... I will get to go back to a lot of plentiful work!

Think about it... everybody is unemployed... at home watching TV.... ahhh! llol

The pending ACTOR STRIKE.

I'm with you on that one! The show I work on has been around a long time and is doing pretty well, even in a downturned economy... but it's the damn strike that has everyone around here worried. If they strike, everything will shut down.

It pisses me off that SAG would try and strike in this economic climate... because it's not just them that gets affected... for every actor there are dozens if not hundreds of periphery people who get screwed! From the bluest blue-collar grip to the nerds on the post-pro side (me.)

It's freaking ridiculous that actors that get paid millions of dollars would strike. WTF!? What's next, Kobe and Shaq going on strike?...
I'm a little down but trying to keep my head up :) Job is so-so but since I know it's mainly out of my hands, I try not to worry.
Every door that closes brings another one open... This is a great opportunity to re-evaluate what's really important and often one finds that building one's character and family is more fulfilling than getting that extra xxx in salary.

bluest blue-collar grip

Gee, thanks! Make me feel like a lowly grip... Oh well, its true... I love gripping! Are you an editor for stuff shot in HD?

Haha its not so much the big actors that make millions. Its mostly the little guy that works a few weeks out of the year (cause thats all they can get) and now they're pay has been cut in half because the producers refuse to pay them residuals for reruns aired online or other new media... while they play less and less reruns on actual TV (so they aren't paid).

I'm all for what they WANT... but now is not the time to do this... they should have aligned themselves with the Writers and Directors and AFTRA (other actors) and did one huge strike and totally dominated the industry... well, maybe they'll do that in 3 years when their contracts expire again!

On saturday my union (IATSE) is having a meeting to discuss our new contract.. so who knows.. maybe we'll be striking next! (i sure hope not)

Well, to be fair SAG has over 100,000 members, and a very small percentage average over $100k, let alone $1M.

I'm going to second this by saying a very small percentage of them make over the poverty level on acting alone! They need this!

I agree with this to a point. It's true that the studios are old and clunky in their business models and they definitely need to re-think how they pay out for New Media.

However, the unfortunate thing is that when the actors go on strike it puts hundreds of thousands of innocent bystanders at risk of losing their jobs... which, in this economy especially, is pretty scary.

Haha, sorry man that came out wrong. I meant 'blue-collar' in a good way... as in, you guys are there for 12 hours a day busting ass, while the actors sit in their trailers.

The show I'm on now is shot on film... which is why we would be screwed. (I think they are scrambling to see if they can start shooting on HD which might be a loophole in the strike contract. Or something? Because I know our actors definitely would prefer to keep working through the strike.) I do visual effects, btw

I've been looking for a job for over 3 months now... wife's getting kind of pissed but what can I do. I'll make decals...

I don't know if you're joking but I seriously am thinking about making decals!

I've been unemployed since Oct 9th from the aftermarket automotive industry. I'm activly looking for work but it's just not out there. The only thing getting me through this is the fact that my wife is a CPA at a larger firm doing well. What's tough is trying to stay positive and hopeful that something will come...soon. :frown:

I have friend that have been looking for YEARS. These are not idiots, mind you. Folks with 10-20 years experience willing to take positions at half their old salaries.

I just got laid off on the first monday of the year.... Happy new year to me.. :frown: Worst thing, I have no EDD but I'll get by.

I'm getting married this Saturday, and head to Cancun right after. I'm done worrying with the future for now. I'll enjoy my wedding, the honeymoon and tackle this thing head-on when I get back.

Needless to say, my NSX modding is on pause. I'm glad I've painted it already though. whew.

Internet sales here are down just over 50%. The problem is that even though I'm not nearly as busy, it falls at the same staggered pace, so as it seems I'm always answering emails, printing orders, etc, just much, much smaller ones. People aren't buying boatloads of accessories, now, it's brake pads and oil filters.

Back a couple years ago, orders hitting $1,000 I'd see almost daily. Now, anything over $300 is a surprise. Only had two orders last night.

In the meantime, I'm working on the internet structure for the dealership.....used car leads via email, advertising, several other programs......but unfortunately it doesn't help my commissions any.

Being post-divorce, whatever assets I had were decimated. Still getting by, but barely. Somebody order something

Much like Honadacuraworld, I've seen about the same amount of orders.........just all small and cheap.

The real killer for my company isn't the economy, it's the new CPSIA that's eliminating 95% of inventory from the sellable roster next month. Needless to say the last few weeks have been hectic trying to sell everything that won't be sellable next month.

Later today I'll post up a promo code for 25% off on 25th Ann. GI Joe figures and Star Wars figures in case there are any collectors here. If it doesn't sell before Feb. 10 it gets destroyed.........can't even donate it to charity

Well I am about to graduate and currently looking for a job in the Design field. No one is hiring because of the economy that many people are staying in school for 1 or 2 years longer. I have many friends that have graduated in May 2008 and are still looking for jobs, running out of money and living at home: not a good situation to be in.

It's tough all over, I still have my job and have no layoff clause in the contract but you can wipe your ass with that. Had the discussion with my boss yesterday about how we have to make our budget numbers or there will be people let go. The weird part if there are reductions I will have to work more overtime.

Has anyone ever thought of being a sperm donor?

I will neither confirm nor deny that I am or not.

Donors will be reimbursed up to $100 per donation and up to $1200 a month by donating 3 times a week. They periodically offer incentives such as movie tickets or gift certificates for extra time and effort expended by participating donors. It's tough work, espcially after turn on the news.

As a donor, you will be classified as an independent contractor under the IRS code. Although no taxes are deducted from reimbursement checks, the sperm banks are required to report the reimbursement paid to you.

In addition, the cum banks are required to report such earnings to EDD. Therefore, each January, you will receive a 1099 form reflecting the total reimbursement paid to you during the previous calendar year.

BTW, they limit how many offsprings to minimize accidental inbreeding when your children grow up and end up boinking each other (unknowingly) at pron night, for example.

A good way to cheat is to frequent other sperm banks in the area, with the NSX of course.

Wear loose pants, preferably no undies since it cools ur nuts.

Consume L-arginine and whey protein with spirulina

Don't smoke, do drugs, drink and have unprotected sex.

Key take aways:

- Earn up to $1200.00/month

- Be your own boss - Donate at your convenience up to 3 times a week ($100.00/donation)

- Receive a free genetic screening and consultation

- Receive free infectious disease and health screenings (every week like a porn star)

- Help people fulfill their dreams of starting a family

12 hours?! I don't think I've worked a 12 hour day since April, on America's got Talent. Worked for 3 hours, then headed over to KAMEN RIDER DRAGON KNIGHT and did a 15 hour day (although I was only there for about 8? haha).

When you first wrote FILM.. I thought you were a film editor! My dad has had this oldskool Moviola Super 16 editor in his garage and some 16 film he needs to edit but we can't figure out how to work the thing! Visual Effects? Cool. I used to be such a 3D nerd in middle/high school (lightwave/maya) and used to dream about being in Visual Effects.. but somehow I ended up as a grip.

Hope to meet you at the C&C!

Design of what? What degree do you have?

Best of Luck to those who are looking for work.

So far I am employed, but as a temp employee I can get laid off at any time. They have laid off most of the contractors in my group and I am still here. Hopefully Obama doesn't make huge cuts with the space or defense industry (fingers crossed). We need to retire the Space Shuttle and get this new Aries rocket done first!
