Ive had to take a substantial paycut and it really sucks. I cant complain too much though at least I have a job.:frown:
The pending ACTOR STRIKE.
I think I'm the only one here NOT hit my the economy... I'm hit by something else.
The pending ACTOR STRIKE. Which none of you probably know about yet... but since June, the Actor's Union (SAG) has been "threatening" to go on strike and NOBODY wants to film any movies/tv shows because they could go on strike at any time (its been worse than the Writer's Strike of last winter).
Apparently there are a ton of projects just waiting for the actors situation to be over with... so when the actors (not really the actors.,. they don't want to strike.. only the president of the union wants to strike, and Mel Gibson) settle this.... I will get to go back to a lot of plentiful work!
Think about it... everybody is unemployed... at home watching TV.... ahhh! llol
bluest blue-collar grip
It's freaking ridiculous that actors that get paid millions of dollars would strike. WTF!? What's next, Kobe and Shaq going on strike?...
Well, to be fair SAG has over 100,000 members, and a very small percentage average over $100k, let alone $1M.
I'm going to second this by saying a very small percentage of them make over the poverty level on acting alone! They need this!
Gee, thanks! Make me feel like a lowly grip... Oh well, its true... I love gripping! Are you an editor for stuff shot in HD?
I've been looking for a job for over 3 months now... wife's getting kind of pissed but what can I do. I'll make decals...

I agree with this to a point. It's true that the studios are old and clunky in their business models and they definitely need to re-think how they pay out for New Media.
However, the unfortunate thing is that when the actors go on strike it puts hundreds of thousands of innocent bystanders at risk of losing their jobs... which, in this economy especially, is pretty scary.
Haha, sorry man that came out wrong. I meant 'blue-collar' in a good way... as in, you guys are there for 12 hours a day busting ass, while the actors sit in their trailers.
The show I'm on now is shot on film... which is why we would be screwed. (I think they are scrambling to see if they can start shooting on HD which might be a loophole in the strike contract. Or something? Because I know our actors definitely would prefer to keep working through the strike.) I do visual effects, btw
Well I am about to graduate and currently looking for a job in the Design field. No one is hiring because of the economy that many people are staying in school for 1 or 2 years longer. I have many friends that have graduated in May 2008 and are still looking for jobs, running out of money and living at home: not a good situation to be in.
