NSX is it really an exotic?

Where did the pic that one ferrarichat member posted come from?

Guys in 348, 328, 308 should not bash the nsx because this car will make you look stupid if you were to race against it. Only bad about it is that it doesn't sound like a real exotic, and that its not build by ferrari, but if it was then everyone would be saying how the ferrari nsx its the best ferrari ever even if its now underpowered. Say what you want at least I know where merit should go.

Smart guy...definetly not biased and not afraid to admit things how they are...

I turn my head and look at the NSX... I do so because I think to myself "Now there is an example of styling that truly is NOT timeless. .. What a shame..."

An NSX for a 360? -- Where's Dave with one of those crack pipe graphics. I mean, that is just plain silly.

NOT timeless? He's smoking the crack pipe!! The car has outsold ferrari for 13 years without any significant changes and a much smaller engine...timeless? uyyy

Yeah, I would trade my 360 for a NSX... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No class IMO.

No way - Not even in the same class. I like the NSX, but there is now way I can compare it to a true exotic.

That guy drives a 1987 328...ya, that exotic

I have an NSX and it is no way near the same league as the 355. It's a nice car but it does not compare in any way to a 355. I kind of like its looks but it needs more power. I am just not willing to spend to $10,000 for a supercharger when the car is only worth $20,000.

Hmmm...$20,000 NSX??? GIMME GIMME GIMME!!! $10,000 supercharger? Uhhhh Basch Boost: $6500, right??

The NSX devalued quicker than it took the US military to reach Bagdad from the beachhead.

The NSX is a nice Japanese supercar, but its no Ferrari. Soon, everybody including rice kids will be driving the NSX.

If you(rhetorical) feel the NSX is all that.... each to their own.

Thats just ignorance!!! You can't really pick up a NICE 91 for less than $28,000...It's selling price (with markup) was anywhere from $80,000 to a few sold at $100,000+...It's depreciated $52,000-72,000 in 13 years...thats $4,000-5,000 a year...damn...not too shabby!!!

I wrote that the supercharger costs $10,000 because a comptech does with installation. I bought my NSX two years ago for $24,000 and it was a 92 with 33,000 miles. I believe that the NSX is a beautiful design but don't bash the Ferraris. You are picking and choosing what some people are saying to make the whole thread look like they are bashing the NSX read the whole thing. In fact most (85%) are saying that it was the greatest at its time just now needs to catch up in the power department. And the NSX does not compare to the 355. Have you driven both-I mean not around the block-but really driven them. You will see that there is a MAJOR difference and upgrade from the NSX. The NSX is a great car but face it, it is not the greatest.

Hey bill, i'm sorry, i should clarify that those are the minority of opinions in that thread...about 60% like the NSX and 30% don't (the rest are talkin about F-1 :))

See the first Quote bill.

A 92 for $24,000 with 33,000 miles!! I'da taken 3!!! Great deal! was the car in good condition?

$10,000 for comptech...ouch...basch puts down better #s i believe and is significantly cheaper and easy to install!

Yes Brian I had found a great deal on that all it needed was a clutch. Just as expensive as a Ferrari's might I add but only more work. On the Ferrari it takes about an 1 hour to replace and you dont even have to take ot tranny. Anyway, I love the NSX I just wish there was something I can do to make it faster without going the supercharger/turbo/NOS route. I already did intake/headers/exhaust/straight pipes. I did not do the chip yet, though, because I cannot live without the car for two to three weeks while it gets done.

Did anyone catch "Behind Closed Doors with Joan Lunden" today on A&E? They went to the Ferrari factory in Italy, and then she got to test drive a 360 Modena (F1 shfiter of course). The episode originally aired in April, but this was my first time seeing it. Pretty interesting...the head test driver talked about a "top secret" car they were working on, I wonder what that might be.

I also passed a modified Viper a few times. Driver experience...? A Viper....until rectently has not been produced to be a roadcourse car. They're fun from red light to red light, but don't try to turn or stop. Barn Man....
I've browsed this forum before and always thought it was cool, but that stupid statement made me join. And you wonder why imports get such low respect from a lot of people, b/c they say stupid things like that, and low and behold I see Acura Integra under your sig (nothing against the car also).

Look at what rwhp said b/c it's true. If you think that a Viper can't turn and stop you are sadly mistaken and prove the mentality of the typical 4 banger owner, b/c as "rwhp" said, a stock GTS will seriously embaress a stock NSX on a race track, let alone what an ACR will do.

As for the NSX, it's definitley a nice car for what it offered performance/comfort wise, I just think the recent couple years started asking to much $$$ for it. Aren't the new (when the next gen comes out) NSX's supposed to be powered by a V8 in the future?

Ya, and then I read your post Saleen...you remind me alot myself about 8 months ago...

I had a Mustang GT that could haul some ass (12's all night). It was my goal to get a 2002 Viper GTS or a SC'd S-351...

Then i drove the NSX. Absolutely NO comparison!! The viper is a great car to drive and go fast, but thats it! Ya, it handles great, but guess what? If you're not a very very experienced driver, you will spin that car on every track you race on!

As far as a Viper out handling an NSX? Ya, a newer one will but "seriously embarass" I think not.

There is no comparison...the viper is a gas guzzling, unreliable, uncomfortable Dodge. I love the design of the car but it could never be anything more than a Saturday/Sunday cruiser.

Hey Barn Man, i didn't mean to rip on your post, I was just stating that there are more common associations towards an exotic...like I said, IMHO, the 4 P's are the definition:

Price (lets face it, they're not cheap and hence they don't look it!)
Performance (must out perform at least 99% of cars on the road)
Popularity (can't be a top production car)
Prestige (thats the "wow" factor when you park it someplace)
Lets take out the first P, and face the facts....an NSX is really not that hard to buy with many going for under $30K.

I've tracked a race prepped 911 S/C with a family friend for a couple years now. I will be taking the Viper to Moroso and Sebring speedway as much as I can for tracking.

Take a NSX on the track with a good driver, and have a GTS or ACR on the track with a good driver, sorry, the Viper will be well ahead. You can go over to Viperclub.org and see track results of good drivers in Vipers. The problem is, a lot of people don't push them as hard at the track b/c it is a beast to control but it is the most rewarding beast to control if pulled off correctly, so people end up saying "Oh I pass Vipers all the time blah blah etc" and then wonder why they all of a sudden had their a$$ handed to them by a stock Viper...it was b/c it was driven by a good driver.

Personally, I have no problem driving a Viper daily. Hell, a friend of mine drives his ACR (whose suspension is purely designed for track use) daily rain or shine and has no problems. They even drive it back and forth between Kentucky and here in South Florida. I find the Viper to be very comfortable and very reliable, I love the rawness it has. There are tons and tons of Vipers with over 50,000 hard track use miles with not a single one having a problem, it's common misconception that they are unreliable, people hardly ever have a problem with them. So far my friend has put 30,000 miles in less then a year on his ACR and not one thing has gone wrong, no rattles or anything.

The last performance car we owned was a modified Porsche 993 with a bored and stroked motor, 100 cell racing cats, custom headers and Super Cup exhaust (straight pipes basically) etc and it was extremely loud and very, very fast for being n/a and this was my mom's daily driver. Maybe it's b/c I have performance in my blood, but I can't figure out how people find the Viper to be so uncomfortable blah blah, when I had no problem driving an ACR for 6 hours staright and loved every second of it.

And I hope nobody takes this as being aginst the NSX cause it's a heck of car, and the only thing I would change would be more power and a lower price then the $$ amount they now go for (just think it's too high for the car)

I dont know what you guys are talking about but, slap on a sc or nitrous or other performance mod and try to install and tune it and you willl see how exotic the nsx is.

My opinion is biased of course, and this may not hold true for some people who are located in geographically favored places. (modesto, AZ, etc.)

Saleen: is the ACR you're talking about yellow (i think w/ black stripes)?? I saw one running 12.7's at Moroso about 3 weeks ago...

They are a bitch to drive on the track because they have almost too much power exiting a turn and done incorrectly and you're back end will be leading the way.

Glad you find them comfortable. I'm 6'3" and could not imagine sitting in one of them for 6 hours. The transmission gets WICKED hot, there's hardly any air circulating through the cockpit with those teeny windows, and if you turn the A/C on, you might as well watch the gas gauge just seep towards "E"...

A few featuers I do like: A/C shuts off during hard acceleration and the radio turns up with the speed increasing. Other than that, I stand by my "Saturday/Sunday driver" statement while the NSX is plenty spacious enough for me to drive daily.

By the way, I would DEFINETLY have taken the S/C'd S-351 over a Viper...maybe not an ACR, but a GTS none-the-less

Oh and I hear they changed alot of the creature comforts on the SRT-10, so I'm lookin forward to driving one of them.

Surely

Yes you are absolutely right. I have owned two NSX's before deciding on the Viper. The NSX is truly a great car. Worthy of the exotic tag and makes an excellent car for just about every application. But if you think, for one second, that the NSX can compare to the VIPER in any track related event, you are sorrily mistaken.

While you can categorically say that the cars are in the same class, they truly are not. The NSX is comfortable, forgiving and bordinline lux. The Viper is rude, obnoxious and arguably insane.

Trust me, I am a fan of the NSX. If I had to pick betwixt them both for an all around car, I would choose the NSX hand downs. But for the purpose of all around super car, there is no comparing it to the VIPER. My Viper out handles, out acclerates and out brakes my NSX 8 days a week.

What's the saying: One ride and you will understand why Americans were first to the moon?

Actually thats pretty funny, his ACR is Yellow with black stripes like you saw, but he doesn't have the car down here right now, he has his new 03' 3500 Dodge Ram Lariat 4X4 with the h/o Cummins and 6 speed (loves his truck lol) but after this semester he'll bring down the Viper as I should have mine by then so we can start tracking them etc.

But the last time he was at Moroso, he ran a 12.2 at 118 mph, and the ACR suspension sucks for the 1/4 mile. We're you there the other night, DLM (Doug Levin Motorsports in Miami) had a yellow R/T that belongs to Treynor (you pry heard of his mid 11 Mercedees S600) trapping 143 mph at Moroso.

Bahh, 6ft 3 is nothing, all you need is the seat lowering kit, heh. We have guys that are 6ft 5 or taller who daily drive their Vipers.
