I had this same problem a couple of months ago when I tried to get smog done. Turns out there was just a loose/poor connection with the switch; Ramon at Niguel Motors fixed that in no time and all is well! (I rarely ever turn off/on TCS).

In my opinion, its not worth it. The cupholders are pretty small, and don't extend high up, which doesn't make for a secure fit for most drinks. And if you're arms are long, you'll find yourself shifting awkwardly so as not to hit your drink which is already somewhat unstable. Better off getting...
