2005 Nsx

In the auto industry, if a major redesign decision is approved, it needs at least a 2 year lead time before it see production. During this 2 year timeframe, it is highly unlikely to have the program cancelled. At the beginning of the 2 years, several hundred millions of dollars will have to be spent on new tools by the manufacturer and their suppliers for components and the production line. While testing and validation is being performed on prototypes. The process is elaborate and its hard to finanically justify cancelling a program during this phase because all the investment dollars have been spent. Not to mention the R&D which occurred prior to this 2 years.

During this 2 year production readiness timeframe, vehicle launch delays are usually due to significant engineering or design changes. But it doesn't get cancelled during this time because the company has already spent 95% of their investment. In the NSX case, I suspect 2 options:

1. Production approval has been granted and launch date may be pushed back due to upgrades (powertrain?) and hence like NSXTASY indicated, Honda may be extending the current model until Gen 2 is ready.

2. Because 2003 NSX inventory in Acura dealers have been held to minimal levels and supposely most 2003 have been sold or allocated for, it is possible Honda wants to deplete exisiting NSX inventory to zero before Gen 2 news is revealed. This revelation could happen in Tokyo Motor show in Fall 03 with a North America sale date of spring 04.

Dude, how many times do I have to remind you that there will be a new NSX. My friend is a top engineer at HONDA Motor too. He told me the samething every year. That they will make a new NSX or new engine for NSX. Accept the fact already. NSX is alive and well!!!!!!!

I'm real good friends with Zuersts' friends brother and I can vouch for this 100% :D

Heck, my body shop guys name is Glen Honda. I also know a guy named Koji Honda. I'll asked them and see what the real scoop is:D If they don't know and can always ask my cousins husband who works for Honda at the Torrance facility:p Come to think of it, I should be asking him to get me some parts since he is a manager in the parts department.

Good idea,

there is a guy in Switzerland named Honda (in 1206 Geneva)!

Honda Takahisa

...not far from Enzo's place. Maybe he could give us some insight (no, not the car ;) ) ...

NSX sales up this year

Now if someone has been recording these numbers, I can update the production numbers.

When was the last ime confidential information leaked out of Honda?
We'll find out when they are ready to tell. Until then, we can speculate all day long.
I had a theory that they were going to wait until they were on top in F1 again before releasing the next gen. NSX.
If that were the case, we'd have a long wait.

Its gonna be a LONG time before Honda is on top again, it might never happen. Ferrari, Mclaran,Williams and Renault, i dont see Honda passing these teams,Honda needs Alonso!

What? I'm offended. Honda F1 racing will be on top within two years.

If Honda were serious they could make a good run at it, but they have no direction other than just being a participant. Went to a recent IRL race, happened to be the first victory for them in the series. 80,000 people in attendence, you think they would have a promotional trailor or something like what Toyota or GM does at these events......nothing, not one thing to tell anyone that they are building engines for this series. . As for info on a new NSX, they just don't talk, and i'm getting tired of waiting.

Granted, Toyota currently has more wins in the IRL... but Honda is on top of the drivers championship (which I think is more important).

You must have attended the second race of the IRL season. Also the second race for Honda in the series. (They won pole position for the first two races.)

But who cares about the IRL. That engine isn't 100% Honda anyway. Either way... not bad for an engine that was in development for only a few months. (Toyota had several years... they had planned a CART pullout for years...)

As far as F1 and the next gen NSX are concerned... only time will tell. Honda always dominates in everything they enter. The question is when... not if.

That's correct, the engine is not even designed or built by Honda. It was designed and built by Ilmore or Cosworth (can't remember which). Honda didn't have time, but intend on building their own engine for the series sometime.

It almost seams sacrilegious, but I guess they know what they are doing...

i agree, it's going to be a very long time. i wouldn't hold my breath in hopes of villeneuve/button getting a win, or even a pole position anytime soon. it seems thier motors just aren't very reliable compared to the rest of the field.

Isn't there also some tension between Villeneuve and Button? I remember Villeneuve cutting Button off and taking his pit break or something like that earlier this year...

From what I've seen the Honda engines over the past few races have gotten quite a bit better. They're producing new spec engines for almost every race. I think the bigger detriments have been the chasis and tires.

JV hasn't really made himself a "team" type of driver. And with JB consistently out qualifying him, I don't think their relationship has very cordial. I'm rooting for JB from now on.

Honda has made some pretty good progress these past few races. I agree the reliability factor is still an issue...

Not all of it is Honda's fault.

The "fued" between Jenson and Jacques no longer exist.

There have been a few times where the BAR Honda drivers have posted Top 5, even Top 3 during practice.

You guys watch! Honda will be back on top within 2 years.
