360 Modena vs. NSX

Which car would you buy?

to me the ferrari still seems more exotic, I dont know why. But yea, the maintaince is a joke. If I cant change the oil myself then I dont want the car. Maybe the 430's will get into the 90k mark and by then I can afford to buy one of those lol.

What would be the maintenance cost on a 360, if, say driven couple thousand miles per year?

Nothing. I have had my my car for a few years now and all I have done is oil changes. The car has not given me one bit of trouble.

The car is due for a service 1+years or 6k miles. That service is 2900 bucks. So I listed my car for 10k under what everyone else has their cars listed for. The first question I get by email is...when is it due for service. LOL. My car is in excellent condition and if someone want's to buy it, drive it for a while then have the service done they will save a bundle.

Edit. Just read the thread and man there is a ton of bad information in this thread.

I was torn between the two decided to go with the 2005 nsx

99 360 modena 24k miles major service done had some paint work on bumper
dealer asking $75k

05 nsx 4600miles mint cond. no flaws $75k

360 modena every year $500 bucks for oil change and flush brake fluid,
every two years all fluids flushed for $2000, every five years timing belt change for $7000.00 all 360 owners are upgrading to 430 cause they have
timing chains.

05 nsx every year oil change $50 bucks, brake flush $150, 7years timing belt
$2000.00 way cheaper to maintain and more rare than a 360 modena.

Do the f430 or get later model nsx.

Excuse my ignorance on some of these maintenance costs, but couldn't you just do the oil change yourself and flush the fluids? Does the motor need to be dropped for the timing belt change?

The NSX is a great car but, IMO after owning both... the Ferrari was everything that was missing from the NSX.

No the motor does not come out there is panels behind the seat in the 360. The TR and the 355/348 motor comes out and the cost is more like 7-10k. The TB service on a 360 is under 3k and it's 2 hundred bucks to get the oil changed.

This information is valuable since it's coming from an actual owner of 360. To me it makes sense to get the 360 if I were to choose between a late model NSX and a 360 because owning a Ferrari is a whole new level of experience for car enthusiasts - especially for the low usage owner (many if not most keep the NSX as a garage queen anyway).

NSX has aged gracefully over the years but no matter what it's still a late 80s/early 90s design. 360 looks much more updated and the price is coming down to a range that's more affordable. Key is finding a low mileage example with full maintenance history.

off topic....but my mate is restoring a Testarossa and I was there when we disconnected the rear sub frame from the body and the engine on top of the rear axle, etc. simply rolls away.

Super cool.

There are low mile Ferrari's with full records, they aren't cheap. There are cheap Ferrari's, they aren't low mile ones with all records.

I have all the records with my car back to the day it was new, I have driven it though so it's got a horribly high 24k miles on it. LOL.

I have two identical 360 TDF's spiders. One needs service in a year, it's 75k the other one comes with a fresh service and it's 85k. If I don't sell either one I don't care. I am not going to service it a year early and or 6k mile early and sell it for 75k.

There is a PPI that was done on the car and it's 100% ready to go according to the PPI done at an independent shop that services all Ferrari's in this area.

Car is also available with a 30 day money back no questions asked guarantee, of course it's not gonna be 75k because the buyer will have to pay the broker a premium.

I basically had this car sold with a deposit and the buyer tied me up for 3 friggen months then just flaked for no reason other than cold feet.

Steveny, how's the quality of the interior material and the exterior paint when compared between the NSX and the 360?

The 360 is a better car. It's everything you want your NSX to be but the NSX is not.

I could ask you this,

have you every heard of turning stone?
Have you ever heard of Vegas?

The Ferrari is Vegas and the NSX is an Indian casino. Your doing pretty much the same thing but one is in Vegas, and everyone knows Vegas.

If you want to go to Vegas but end up at an Indian Casino, you'll still want to go to Vegas and you won't be satisfied until you do.

Curious as to how many miles you've driven it in those few years?

I say get the 360. If the F-car is not everything you see it to be then just make the switch afterward. You only live once.

~6k. Right before I put it away this year I did a 500 mile weekender trip.

Robr drove the car this summer around the lake. When the car was in Florida I used it every day. Up here in NY it can only be used 4 months out of the year.

To the OP if you have the money I would buy the 430 instead. It supposed to be better as far as reliablity and maintenance.

so Steve no more kooky avatar.....has the daughter straightened up your act?

I did the same thing.... Bought my NSX over a Ferrari 360 Spyder.

F430 is definitely one of my dream cars, however the prices on those are still very high so it is out of context for the comparison I was making.

Very interesting analogy :)

For all we talk about how great our cars are (and they are great), IMO, they aren't in the same league as a Ferrari and Lamborghini in many regards. As a youngster, I didn't grow up longing to someday own an NSX. Don't get me wrong, I love my car and I'm very proud of it, but if I had the choice between it and a 360, I'd pick the 360 (though I'd actually prefer a Gallardo). Just like the analogy Steve made about the Indian casino and Vegas. It's something beyond just how great the car is. I don't care if your NSX is faster. It's not a Ferrari. My bucket list has a handful of things on it and one of them is to own an Italian exotic car. The NSX is perfect for me now---I'm in my mid (okay, pushing later) 30's and I'm proud to own it and it was aspirational for me. I really wanted it - because it was attainable and when I bought it in my earlish 30's, a F-Car (other than a beat up 308) wasn't! Be honest with yourselves about why you want the car. Is it for a track car (if so, get an Elise), is it for ego, is it for reliability, is it to say "hey I kinda-sorta made it"? Determine what's driving you to buy a car like this and then perhaps the choice may become more apparent.

Thought I was the only one who would rather have the Gallardo, rather than the 360  The 2004's (Gallardo) are selling on Craigslist for approximately $80K, but of course, factory warranty may have expired and out of pocket maintenance may be necessary. Since this is primarily about the NSX and 360, I would choose the 360.

I'm jealous. I have always wanted a Ferrari. Growing up watching Schumacher made me a huge fan of Ferrari. Every kid dream of either a Ferrari or a Lambo. My next "toy" car will be a Ferrari and I will do every DIY repair and maintanence I can. Just not in my budget right now.

Most people think my NSX is a Ferrari where I live. They are like flies out here on Eastern Long Island. For the ones that ask what it is, they freak out when I tell them and how old it is.
Just a random observation.

True but if you buy the 360 you will be wanting a 430 since it is the next step up. I would hold out and save for a 430. Just my .02
