Based on op tablet would come with three price tags of $599, $699 and $799 "depending on size and memory;" run a version of the iPhone OS, but unlike the smartphone allow multiple applications to run simultaneously; and connect to the Internet via both Wi-Fi hotspots and the 3G data networks operated by AT&T and Verizon.

"There are two sizes," Calacanis said on Twitter a few minutes before noon Wednesday. "One is about double the size of an iPhone and one is 20% smaller than my Mac Book Air."

"So, if you can say to them, 'Gee you can spend $350 on a dedicated book reader, or you’re going to get this amazing Apple device at twice the price, but with the ability to do much more than read books,' " then Apple's tablet has a good chance of success, he said

so ~$700

No price or mention of sizes yet to be mentioned at the Apple announcement yet.

I think its cool but gotta wait to see what kind of issues it will have.

I don't think I could get used to typing on the screen. If I end up getting one I will wait a few months till they drop the price to $399 or $349 like they did with the iPhone.

Just came across a video demonstration from Engadget:

<param name="movie" value="http://www.viddler.com/simple_on_site/51b063e8" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="flashvars" value="fake=1"/><embed src="http://www.viddler.com/simple_on_site/51b063e8" width="437" height="265" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" flashvars="fake=1" name="viddler" ></embed></object>

It looks pretty amazing...

and you can always connect a keyboard if needed.

One of things that will set it apart are the apps. The apps Apple includes with the unit seem really polished and complete. iWork looks really nice in particular.

WRONG, it's starts of at $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB, and $699 for 64GB models. They're all the same size physically, 9" screen.

If you want 3G connectivity, it's $130 more. The device is GSM unlocked, and as of announcement, only AT&T will be providing Data services for now, $30/mo unlimited data, or $15/mo for 250MB, with no contract required. Free wifi at AT&T hotspots. Cancel at anytime. Maybe more carriers will be added later.

It uses a new micro-SIM card, so no, you cannot swap your current SIM card from your iPhone or other smartphone. I'm thinking, maybe you can clone your current SIM card or transfer the data to this new micro Sim card and you're good to go, we'll see.

For those of you that have a jailbroken iphone, you can tether by creating an ad-hoc network, so no need to get a data plan.

Oh yeah, iPhone/iPod Touch Apps will work on the iPad, and there will be iPad specific Apps made, as well as iBooks.
So now we have iTunes, App Store (which includes games), and iBook Store.

A couple people here at work were all excited up about it but when I looked at it it just seemed like a really big Itouch to me so I wasnt so excited. They expalined to me what it coudl do but then I thought it sounded like a netbook.

What am I missing here? Is is just the "look its a MAC thingy" coolness that I dont get?

I admit it "looks" really cool but I cant picture myself walking around everywhere carrying this thing so its for use at home, work, airport etc. in which case why not just use a netbook?

Someone convince me I need this so I can look cool at work?

I was extremely excited when I read about the product... so much that I told the soon-to-be-wifey that I was going to buy one.

BUT a few things made me change my mind and told myself wait till they come out with version 2...

1. No multi-tasking
2. No touch keyboard - its a basic tablet keyboard - not the iPhone style keyboard
3. 4:3 screen... isn't everything better in wide screen nowadays?
4. No flash support - DOH!

I believe its a great product and it is something that fits perfectly in the household. Its smaller than a laptop, better than a netbook, and simple enough to use for quick web browsing and ebook reader. Plus the APPS - imagine all the apps! But as we all know Apple, better things come in version 2 and beyond...

Regarding multitasking, for now its like the iPhone. Limited multitasking. Like listening to iPod tunes and websurfing. You will be able to do this with the iPad.

More extensive multitasking is rumored to be intro'd with version 4 of the OS.

I don't understand your keyboard comment. It is a touch keyboard like the iPhone only bigger and nicer.

Re: Flash. Flash sucks. Everyday i get a FlashCrash on a web page. Adobe has to really fix Flash ASAP.

1. No multi-tasking

I've yet to get more info on this. I'm sure the default Apps like Mail, iTunes, etc, are still able to be ran as multi-task like on the iPhones.

2. No touch keyboard - its a basic tablet keyboard - not the iPhone style keyboard

Where are you getting your info from? it IS a multi-touch keyboard, just like the iPhone's, only bigger, so you can type like on a conventional keyboard.

3. 4:3 screen... isn't everything better in wide screen nowadays?

I'm with you on that one, but oh well.

4. No flash support - DOH!

Flash is overrated and badly implemented by most people. It's all about HTML5.

One thing that will be really nice is using the iPad as a Nav GPS system in a car. Those little punky screens that you find on Garmins and TomToms are way too small and so is the iPhone.

An iPad with a nice bracket and updated turn-by-turn apps will be killer.

Agreed. There goes my idea of doing a Mac mini Carputer on my vehicle. Maybe now I'll just get this and hopefully someone comes out with a decent dock for vehicles.
