Driver's Side Axle Seal Replacement, Quick Question

I have to change the driver's side axle seal on my 6 speed transmission. I read the manual and some other threads and they only talk about changing the entire axle; I only need to change the seal. Do I have to pull the axle out of the hub still? Or can I get away with unbolting the lower control arm, shock and swinging them out of the way along with the axle? I'm doing this tomorrow so if someone knows please post. Also, if there are any pointers about changing the seal please let me know.

My steps are going to be:

-remove wheel
-remove shock bolt
-remove lower control arm bolts (2 big ones)
-pull entire assembly with axle out of the way
-pick out the old seal
-push new one in by hand
-put everything back
-alignment

Your steps are going to be:

-remove wheel
-remove shock bolt
-remove e-Brake cable mount bolt on rear beam from lower arm
-remove wheel speed sensor cable(just remove the two bolts)
-mark Adjuster for alignment position
-remove lower control arm bolts (2 big ones)
-pull entire assembly with axle out of the way(with a helper)
-pick out the old seal
-push new one in by hand
-put everything back
-set alignment marks as before
-no need for alignment, drink beer
