Finally! My full Factor X FX500 Turbo Review

If I floor it at every light and speed shift it at every gear, it will be lucky if my car can last a week or two. More than likely my driver's licence will go first........

Seriously, I think this also speaks for NA NSX. But as in any modifications, the more extreme the performance increase, the shorter it will live. If you do a search on Prime, I'm sure you can find informations on how much power each parts can endure. I think OEM Rod can hold around 800hp, and the tranny can hold around 600hp, etc. On the other hand, if you abuse and neglect it, I don't think it can take 300hp on a bad day.

Unlike Bryan, mine is a daily driver and Mikey set mine up accordingly. Furthermore, I'm a much more docile driver than my younger FX500 counterpart. With proper maintainence, I'm hoping for 50k plus miles before my next major rebuild. But that is at 500+ whp level I'm shooting for.

Best Regards
Paul

Just curious, what is done to your motor internally? Also what Air/Fuel Ratio are you running? I would think with a built motor pushing 500rwhp, should last longer than 50k. Makes me nervous of doing that setup now.

Six days on Prime and already want to know so so much......... I like an inquisitive mine.

500whp from a 3.2L engine isn't a walk in the park. If you drive like me and maintain the car well, 50k miles shouldn't be a problem. If one is to drive it like a 500whp car should be driven, then 50k sounds just about right. No reasons to be nervous. One has to pay to play......

Purchased Factor X's back-up race motor. C30A punched out to 93mm bore via ductile sleeves. 9.8:1 comp Wiseco pistons with proprietary dome. Rebushed stock rods and stock crankshaft, balanced and blue printed, billet pump gear, ARC pan, race ported heads, and just about everything else is custom. A/F is all over the place but mostly ideal to rich. Oh.......limiter is up to 8,700 rpm. Now if I expose any more spec, I may never see my Blue Devil again sez Mikey.

Best Regards
Paul

PS: Also see you have a Twin Turbo Z06. What is your handle at Corvette Forum? Mine is also Esprit1.

My User name is AbadVette, I recently had the TT installed. I posted a little about the TT setup. I just mostly read and research, unless there is something I cannot figure out for myself. Than I start asking questions:biggrin: Only real reason for me getting rid of the Vette is the depreciation factor of it.

The NSX, Supra, and Rx7, still have hold their value and even have gone up. I am now at a cross road, either a NSX or a Supra. Supra I heard can handle well, just needs to do some work on it. The MR on the NSX, takes a little getting use to. I am into doing track events, I am not a pro yet, as it takes seat time to get better at it. I know either NSX or Supra will do good, but the NSX have a exotic look to it, but takes more to mod. The Supra on the other hand is still unique, but cheap to mod. Hard to decide, maybe here in a few days, I will make my decision.

That NSX sounds awesome!! what blow-off valve are you using ?

I think that SRT4 wanted a piece of you in that last video.

Wow, was it really 104.93 degrees on the dyno day?! In northern WI this weekend there were lows in the 20's. (I need to move  )

Let's see, 105 F and 15% RH in the shade? Yep that sounds about right for a typical Vegas day. Maybe even in a bit chilly, where's my scarf?

Dang that SRT-4 is pretty quick, what was done to it?

Also, with the turbo setup and all the complimentary mods, how much more weight does it add on the car?

It's a VERY fast SRT-4. I've seen it take a modded Evo and a C6. I don't know what was done to it but it had a shortend exhaust and was extremely loud.

Interstingly enough about the turbo, by the time you drop the exhaust, cats (who knew cats were so heavy?) and a lot of other parts, the weight addition is not too bad at all. I would be really, really surprised if it added more than 50 lbs, if that.

Wow, I like your build. Sure is hard to decide between the NSX and Supra. At least for me.

Supra has its ups and downs, same with the NSX. It really is going to be a tough decision.

Just curious though, the connecting rod on the FX500 build, how much power can it handle?

Did a little reading on Corvette Forum. You should worry about your speeding tickets and legal fees before venturing into FX500. The FX costs a pretty penny or two and it is just as likely to get you in trouble as your TwinTurbo C5. So I suggest cooling off for a while.....Supra inclusive......

Yeah, bad situation, I was like man I need to get rid of the Vette and the EB does not help much. Than I saw a Supra and some NSX at Nopi and I was like I need one of those. Crazy huh? Me and my darn car hobbies.

Why do I love cars so much!!! I need to like go party it up and drink and smoke, like all my buddies (joking). Anywho, yeah those tickets put me about 3k in the hole, definitely will not do that again. Guess we will see how things pan out. :(

We have no idea if the motor will be able to make it past 50k miles as we have not reached that milestone yet:) We are at about 25k miles now on one of our motors, compression and bearing wear has been fantastic. Each motor is built with a specific goal in mind. Obviously, you cannot expect to get 50k miles out a 1,000hp car. But 500hp is looking pretty good:biggrin:

I was hoping to see Factor X at the "supras invade Las Vegas" event last weekend...I did see a guy from Kansas with a blue "2002?" with a ton of mods that blew his trannie after much abuse on Saturday. I swear, I was cringing everytime he went to the line, because he just couldn't launch! ...tons of shuddering unitl it finally broke.:frown:

We would have loved to run!!! However, Time Attack Finals are nearing so we are finishing up a few more mods on the car. After that though, its back on! We also saw him nuke his tranny, hopefully it was not the OSG. We were upset that they wouldnt let us run the 1200rwhp GTS either...

It wasn't the OSG, just the tranny. He was pretty pissed about not being able to get back into the 12's after adding the OSG and some imported Advan "drag tires"....

**Long term update**

Well it's been a little over 6 months and a couple of thousands of miles and the Black Beast has been running brilliantly. No problems at all and Factor X has since done some minor tweaking and have squeezed out a few more HP. I'm running about 450 whp at about 435 ft-lbs of torque at about 14 psi. I did loose a few hundred RPMs as the turbo spools a tiny few RPMs later so the turbo lag is slightly more pronounced. But the turbo kick is definitely faster and harder and for the first time last night I was able to break the rear wheels loose in 4th gear.

Right now I'm at a prettty happy point with my setup and power. It is definitely very stable and happy right now and I think I've maxed out what the turbo will do. If I want to break the 500 whp mark, I'll either have to relocate my IC or go with a bigger turbo, but I'll lose the super quick spool up and pick-a-gear-and-mash-the-pedal drivability I'm loving all so much>

Next up, new stickier, wider tires and a full on widebody kit. Keep you guys posted.

Nice car. Aren't the FX500's fun? Talk to Mikey, the turbo system in their silver competition car makes a bit more power and is definately NOT a 'supra' lag monster by any means. The increase in power from a larger turbo might be what you're looking for, but the way Mikey sets it up, it is easily driveable in road racing.

Hope to see you next time i'm in vegas
