Hondas new models not doing well

Yeah that's a bummer. I think Honda's definitely look better than Toyota's. I had a feeling the CR-Z wouldn't sell as well as they hoped. I feel like, anyone who buys a hybrid vehicle isn't going for looks and style...the CR-Z is small car with limited passenger and cargo room. In the eyes of a buyer...why would I want such a small car when I can get more for my money buying the Prius. I think Honda would have succeeded in the market if the CR-Z was performance based and paired along side the Civic Si. But I'm sure they wouldn't want it to take away from Si sales. That's why VW didn't bring the Scirocco to the states...didn't want it to steal sales from the GTI.

The Accord Crosstour is just weird. I'm not surprised it's not doing well either. It's one of those odd vehicles like the Subaru Outback...kind of a wagon, kind of rugged...but doesn't excel at anything

Good read, brief and to the point.

"Automotive News suggests that the problem boils down to a change in Honda's image from a company with compelling products to one that plays it safe. Throw in styling that isn't for everyone and aging (but still selling) models like the CR-V and Accord, and you've got a recipe for decreased market share.

Honda, meanwhile, says that it doesn't focus on market share because that leads to bad habits (read: incentives), instead opting to focus on percentage-increases in vehicles sold. That's a fair strategy, but slow sales of key new models suggest that Honda needs to do some soul-searching. Might we suggest getting back to its roots as an engineering-driven car company?"

I'd certainly agree.

The sad problem here is that exec's at Honda will say "Oh its the bad economy hence why no one's buying cars...".

No Honda its because you are producing vehicles nobody's interested in.

Well to be fair we should say "few" are interested in. Ito time to fall on the blade and let someone with spirit take the reins. I mean they put so much money the robot and scooters for lazy people couldn't some of that have gone into spicing up the line up?

Well Honda said it was going for green and it looks like it's costing them. Ito you gots to go go!

When Honda said it was going green, it meant hiring some pot smoking Mr. Potato Head to design Hondas. This guy's talents are reflected by his eloquent speech and stunning good look. The best seller has yet hit the market and you guys are already writing Honda off? Sheesh!

How about UGLIEST cars of 2010?
Honda took top 2 spots.

HEY I take offense in that list because I think the Nissan Cube is very very cool looking. Like Total Recall good looking..... I'm being serious here. Before I clicked that link I knew that ugly ass Accord CrossTour would make that list, and I was kinda expecting the TL too, but too bad the TL did not make it. You can't tell its head from its ass on the TL with its retardily ( is that even a word? ) large rear reflectors in the bumper thats larger than the tail lights, and that tacky ass chrome accent on in the middle of the trunk.

Interesting point about making the CRZ performance based would take away from the Si Civics that they are selling. I don't think that would happen. They are two different types of cars altogether. Plus I think that the CRZ could me made less expensively if they removed all the hybrid crap and just put in a big motor. I'd buy one but I'm not running out to buy a Civic Si.

Yet toyota sells more.

Because Toyota had/has a better business strategy and vision with regards to automotive. They have the Scion line and the Lexus line. Toyota created the Scion line to be cheap and aimed at the youth market. This keeps the Toyota name relatively premium in comparison. So when the Scion folks grow up, they gravitate to Toyota, and if they have some extra money, Lexus. Let's also not forget from an image standpoint they also have the LF-A now. It's all about image and perception. The car can be the best handling in the world, but if it doesn't look like something you want to be seen in, chances are you will never want or own it.

I have seen two Crosstours now and front it has a nice look, but there is NO practicality in in whatsover. And the back and side profile is hideous.

I think there is a murmur that they may take the CRZ and make a "sport" version with a turbo motor and a k20..........like they should have done.

GOD that is one ugly car. How it ever progressed from the napkin sketch to a full prototype I'll never understand.

I agree but the Si is a coupe vs the two seater only CRZZzzzzz

IIRC, Honda will also stop selling the Civic line altogether in Japan, not sure if it is specific to the current generation or if it might also apply to the next generation version of the car as well.

It was also interesting to read about the owner loyalty article over at Autoblog:

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/09/ford-honda-lead-latest-j-d-power-owner-loyalty-survey/

At least Ford offers a variety of choices for their customers, and even special models for their enthusiasts, then again maybe it is because their sport cars are actually profitable:

If I only knew how to Show Honda the new engine I designed

It would make the Hybrid technology look like a dinosaur.

I have tried to help honda but they dont wanna listen to anyone outside their Island. I would sell them the Idea and bring them back to the top.

oh well

The article is reasonable and logical and it's difficult to argue against the sales figures.

All I know is that I wouldn't want to be the Insight program head. 60-80k in targetted sales w/ only 20k to show for is bound to cause some internal strife and maybe (rightly so?) some heads to roll.

If one didn't know, Ito was the primary driving force in the chassis development for our beloved NSX. Some of the stories that surround his NSX development are really stunning and I gained a little more confidence that he knows what he's doing after reading them. I hope that confidence isn't misplaced. :(

Seriously, this car is making me sick. I have to stop looking at this.

Is there ANYONE here who likes this car? Is it me or is this the most wretched car concept ever? I'd rather own a Yugo and an Aztek.

I really don't understand how the Mazda smile-cars weren't the WORST cars produced. I hate looking at them riding down the road, grinning at me! ... the other cars aren't so great, but still... whoever had that idea should be banned from the island.

Reminds me of the "Homer". Homer Simpson is given free reign to build whatever kind of car he wants. The results below.

LOL, I remember watching that episode. Classic :D

BTW: Some exterior/cosmetic things like the buck teeth look of the recent Acura's can be fixed without substantial costs (weird noses on the Subaru's comes to mind), but when the entire concept of the vehicle is a non starter (ZDX, Crosstour) then it shows how disconnected and clueless the designers/management who are involved in the project really are, not a good sign.
