In the Army Now

Well it is now official, Im in the Army now. E4 Specialist, MOS 15B aka Aircraft Poweplant Repairer (basicly fix the engine, tranny, anything that moves on the engine). My bootcamp is in Fort Jackson, SC and my AIT is in Virginia. Wish me luck guys, im shipping this Feb 03.

Well I wanted to be a Warrant Officer, I wanted to fly Blackhawks but I can't because of my OWI 3 years ago, so now i have to go the long route and put my WOCS packet in later.

Anyone else here in the military?

deedubb: College Grads get paid at E-4 rate throughout training and depending on command may even wear Spec shields for a good chunk of BCT.

I've never been to Jackson, but I'm assuming they don't call it 'relaxin Jackson' for nothing.


They nixed you from WOFT for a 3 year old conviction? You'd think the Army didn't need pilots or something.

Good luck, keep a very low profile, run like hell and when the opportunity arises cross train for everything you can get your hands on. I had an old SFC that had 13 MOS's :eek: every school you complete puts you that much closer to a promotion.
 
First Lieutenant and then later as a Captain in the 101st Airborne as a platoon leader and then later as a company commander. 11th Special Forces Group as an A Team leader. And, that was a long time ago. Any one here ever heard of a place called Vietnam?:wink:

Vietnam? Isn't that the place that Top Gear just rode scooters from the South to the North in 8 days. Jeremy Clarkson bragged that is something the US never managed to do.

i was at For Jackson, its only as tough as the drill seargants want to be on you, it was hard at times, but easy at most. i think the only reason why people say they are easy there is because there are girls and guys. oh dont drink the juice, you go limp for months. haha
 
I was at FLW, also coed, and it was far from easy. We had females in there that could max the male APFT :eek: Probably the worst part was the ridiculous weather. It would go from 40 at night to 95 during the day, pouring rain and a tornado watch. The juice was safe for us, the eggs were the big culprit.

If it's like the navy, you need a college degree, and have passed the E-7 exam. From there the selection board will pick however many warrent officers, depending on available billets/quotas. It comes in cycles.

in the Aviation field (Army), you just need to be an E3 to put in a packet. And it depends on what WO you want to become. For a pilot, I need to take the Flight Aptitude test.
 
The Army accepts around 1/3rd of the applicants for flight warrant. I got what they told me was the highest score they had ever seen at Ft. Lewis on the flight aptitude test, but then they said my eyes weren't good enough.

Make friends with all the pilots you can, show them how professional you are and how much you want to fly. The more important the guy is who writes your letter of recommendation, the more likely they are to accept your packet.

I'm getting out in a few weeks.
