Is a Ferrari F355 lower than an NSX?

Sat beside an F355 in traffic yesterday. I seemed taller in the seat. He booted it around the corner onto an 80KPH bridge and short freeway. Unreal sound. I caught up and put my auto in 2nd gear and the sound was almost as good. We both gave thumbs up. I didn't race him to the bridge because I was avoiding an Audi in front of us that was belching out clouds of white smoke. Broken head gasket I think. Plus it's illegal to race.
My car was a filthy silver, think Edmonton garage dirty, and his was super clean. I was sort of embarrassed.

I think a F355 sounds better with a Capristo exhaust. There is absolutely no rasp at all and its ultra smooth.

but this tubi sounds really good at the top end even though the bottom end is a little bit raspy

There hasn't been a car designed that sounds as good as a 355. Not a one.

They are both low....I would say the seats of the 355 sit lower....especially those challenge seats.

The 355 sounds awesome.

Hi all, it seems there's alot of us who have an appreciation of the Ferrari 355. Went to a collector auction this weekend and they had a 99 black/tan 355 up for sale. It didn't go as the reserved was higher than what people wanted to pay for it i guess.
Because my NSX was parked not too far from the F-355, I found myself looking back and forth at the two and comparing what i liked about them, esthetically speaking.
One thing i noticed was that when you look out the windshield of the NSX, you can see the front fender curves and I appreciate being able to see the nice formula red from the drivers seat. I noticed in the F-355, you don't get that. Small things, but they all add up for the overall enjoyment. Rear end of the Ferrari is way better IMO. I still find myself quite drawn to the Ferrari model though. Beautiful to look at, and sound is spectacular. They are coming down in price too i see. Only about 20-30K more than the late NA2 prices now.

Having both cars in my garage at this time, I can say with quite a bit of accuracy is that they both sit pretty much the same. The 355 was Ferrari's response to the NSX when it came out, an exotic that was actually reliable and easy to drive everyday. There are really quite a few similarities between both models, and quite a few differences as well.

When I was looking for an NSX replacement at the time, nothing else really got me as excited as the 355. The looks of the 360 didn't really do it for me at the time, but it was really the size of the 355 (ie. it is the "right" size for me) and the SOUND. Oh yes, the sound. Believe me, we tried everything in the book to make the NSX sound like a Formula 1 car, let alone the 355, but to no avail. There is truly nothing else in the world quite like the 355, in its price range, or even many times over its price range. I can name a few other cars that may sound almost as good, but they are pretty much unobtainium. Like the Carrera Gt, or the FXX. Not even the Enzo impressed me (in terms of sound).

My NSX is built quite a bit, so it is much faster than the 355. Don't get me wrong, the 355 is no slouch. My 355 has test pipes and an MS Racing exhaust, Gruppe M intake, and oy, it sound GLORIOUS ;-) You forget the speed (or lack of it compared to the NSX) once you hear that though. The throttle response is also very race-car like, instantaneous. Individual throttle bodies for you ;-) I love both cars, but for slightly different reasons.

Here's one of the best videos made about the car. Turn up the volume!

Did I say that they sit almost as low as each other?

Cheers,

Alex (back to my cave)

Alex probably has one of the cleanest F355 I have ever seen in person and his NSX is bad ass too!

I agree post pics of both!

Maybe you could recreate this YOUTUBE classic with your two cars:

Alex :cool:peeking his head out:eek:

According to Wikipedia, both cars have a height of 46.1 inches.

Both cars are therefore lower than the Ferrari 360 which has a height of 47.2 - 48.6 inches depending on the model.

I can't believe that someone would overlay some crap music track onto one of the best car audio tracks ever. You could barely hear the car in some sections. What were they thinking?

The song is Be Quiet And Drive from the Deftones. There are some people who might actually like that song. I play music in my car loud, I think it meshes well with the sounds my car makes. So this vid appeals to my sensibilities. But, it's not for everyone.

This is a conglomeration of a ton of other vids from YouTube. If you want to hear it without the music, each is available.

I would love to have a Spider 355, but I can't justify the rediculus maintence cost. The price range for the 355 is within reach, but I could not afford the cost in keeping it on the road. There is nothing that sounds better than the 355 with a Capristo or Kreisseg exhaust.

Can someone make the picture big?

The price to ACQUIRE a 355 has never been better. However, the price to OWN a 355 is quite high.
